A Fond Adieu...

On February 11, 2005, I began working on the blog that became Random Acts of Geekery, and for nearly 12 1/2 years, with a few exceptions, there've been posts here at least five days a week, but more often two a day seven days a week, and sometimes more.

And my friends, I hate to say it, but I think it's time I gave it up, after 7,329 posts (7,330 including this one).

Those of you who've stuck with this after the last hiatus have probably noted that there hasn't been any blog posts that involved my writing or creating anything... no Comics They Never Made, no Essays on Comics Characters, no reviews of Monkees, Beatles or Popeye shows, no Geek TV, no Ape of the Geek... and have probably been wondering just what the heck has been happening.

Honestly, I think I started running out of... I don't know... inspiration? Drive? Something else entirely? back when Krypto died. This blog began just before I got him, and it felt in many ways like the two were connected.

I've tried a few different things since then to try to revitalize my interest in continuing it, and this most recent spate of picture content only was my effort to try to buy time until I felt inspired to return things to normal around here, but I think I have to face it, it just doesn't feel the same any more.

It doesn't help that readership has been declining on a regular basis, either... this year, I've only had over 100 hits per post a few times back in January... and until my first hiatus, I'd been managing over 500 hits per post. With each hiatus came a loss of readers, and I have only myself to blame there.

I can't even say that I should be continuing doing this blog for the ad revenue, as that's been declining big time... and while that's a minor part of why I was doing it (let's face it, extra money is always nice), it still counted.

Now, this doesn't mean that I'll be deleting this blog, naturally! As with all my other blogs that have come to an end, this one will remain as long as Google and Blogger allow it to stay.

Does this mean I'll not be producing any content at all for the internet, aside from my (all-too-rare) Facebook posts? Well... maybe, and maybe not. You see, I'm writing this in early May for publication in June, and I've been toying with an idea for a while. You see, one of the posts I have enjoyed putting together here are the latest Comic Reading Library posts, that instead of posting entire comics, I was providing a mix of different stories. I still have a large backlog of stuff I'd accumulated for it that I haven't gotten to, and some stuff that was posted quite a long time ago that never found much of an audience.

So, let me just say this: I'm planning on resurrecting the old Comic Reading Library blog as a Volume 2, if you will. We will have to see when that will start, but it probably won't be until July at the earliest so I can work up a backlog of posts. This will probably be a Monday thru Friday blog, but I'm looking at making each pst have it's own theme... the themes will likely be Horror, Humor, Western, Romance, Superheroes, War, Science Fiction, and Fantasy (I think that pretty much covers the bases). Some of these themes may get a day of the week to themselves, with one or two days being rotating themes. Perhaps it will find a new audience!

Anyway, I'd like to conclude by thanking everyone who's ever visited this blog, whether it was every day or on occasion, for whatever you came here for. It's been a long ride, but it's time to end it.

Best,

Jon
