We’re celebrating whales and porpoises with art projects all day.

We all love a good science experiment, and many of the best ones create a mess. From making slime to playing with shaving-cream clouds, we’ll have a variety of hands-on experiments available all day at Wet Center for budding young scientists. Spend a few hours with Native Plant Salvage and Stream Team at the McLane Creek Nature Trails as we mindfully trim back growth along the trail, pulls weeds, clear the paths, and enjoy the great outdoors! Snacks and tools are provided, and volunteers will be issued a temporary Discover Pass for this event.

Kareem leads an aimless life between odd jobs and hanging out with his buddies in a crime-ridden Arab ghetto of the mixed city of Lyd. A family tragedy brings him closer to his singer girlfriend, Manar, and motivates him to do something more with his life. When Kareem and his group finally get a chance to perform in a Tel Aviv hip-hop club, the star potential of the 'first Arab rapper' is quickly noticed. Although he raps "I'm not political," Kareem and the group use music to express their tough life as Palestinian youth. But the road to success is never easy... Kareem and his group must face violent nationalistic Jewish rappers, government-imposed gentrification and troubled drug-dealing friends. When Manar's family threatens to harm them if she performs publicly with him, the time comes for Kareem to either surrender to conservative tradition or stand up for the woman he loves, the artist he respects...

Join Masterworks Choral Ensemble on June 17 at the Washington Center for a rollicking, uproarious voyage aboard the Musical Comedy Cruise: Hijinks on the High Seas!  Enjoy a mix of playful musical theater and other witty classics, some sung as full chorus numbers and others as small group medleys and sparkling solos.

Expect the smartest songs from musicals across eras, from Annie Get Your Gun to Hairspray.  And comic favorites like “Papa Oom Mow Mow”, the swaying Calypso sounds of “Zombie Jamboree”, the immensely clever “Lydia, the Tattooed Lady” – a ditty originally sung on screen by Groucho Marx!

Terrific medleys will keep you bouncing in your seat or dancing in the aisle.  “Opening Night” segues through eleven different Broadway tunes songs, including “You Can’t Stop the Beat” and Monty Python’s priceless “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life”.

Lots of good fun with gender play too. In “We’re the Men” and “No More Sailor Songs”, the guys lament always getting stuck with the lackluster chorus parts. In “Dear Future Husband”, the ladies let the guys know just how it’s going to be. Finally, the women and men duke it out in song with “Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better)” from Annie Get Your Gun.

And there’s a special performance by Rowan Dunn, who won MCE’s 2016 Youth Music Competition at the middle school level. She has sung in local choirs like Kids in Concert and Olympia Youth Chorus for nearly eight years, and appeared in plays with Capitol Playhouse and Apple Tree Productions.
