From "America's librarian" and NPR books commentator Nancy Pearl, comes "George and Lizzie," an emotionally riveting debut novel about an unlikely marriage at a crossroads. Nancy Pearl has worked as a librarian and a bookseller for more than three decades, is regularly featured on NPR's Morning Edition, and appears weekly on Seattle Public Radio. This event is cosponsored by Browsers Bookshop.

Ethan Rogol will read from his book "Tropical Immersion," a wry, personal story which is part travelogue, part cultural primer, part memoir, part romance and a treatise on being present, wherever one is. Rogol has taught Spanish and worked as a Spanish interpreter and translator for 20 years. He has lived intermittently in Costa Rica and Olympia, Washington for 27 years and has immersed himself in Costa Rican culture.

Harlequin Productions Explores Family Dynamics With

August: Osage County

Beginning August 24, Harlequin Productions presents August: Osage County at the State Theater in downtown Olympia. This family drama is a 2008 Pulitzer Prize winner written by Tracy Letts. Set in a huge farmhouse on the plains of modern day, middle-class Oklahoma, August: Osage County is darkly comic as it shares the revelations of the embattled Weston family. They are all intelligent and sensitive but have the uncanny ability of making each other absolutely miserable. When the esteemed poet patriarch of the household mysteriously vanishes, the Weston clan gathers together to simultaneously support and attack one another as they negotiate the hilariously cynical and drug fueled force field generated by the devious matriarch, Violet.

American opera singer Ellen McLainheads up the cast as the pill popping Violet. Ellen is best known for her roles as GLaDOS in the video game series Portal as well as the feature film Pacific Rim. The remaining cast includes an array of regional and local actors: Angela DiMarco, Doug Fahl, Ann Flannigan, J. Forbes, Dana Goodknight, Jenny Vaughn Hall, Jason Haws, Russ Holm, Bill Johns, John Lowrie, Mackenzie Platt, and Brian Pucheu.
