Healing and Hope: Alternatives to Meds

Event:
Tue, 08/15/2017 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm
I always hear the same question: What are the alternatives to psychiatric meds?
At this talk, you can ask me! I will also share alternative models of understanding human suffering, trauma and emotional distress. You'll get practical tips for living freely, creatively and healthfully.
Chaya Grossberg has been an advocate for human rights and informed choice in the mental health system for over 15 years. She survived being put on 7 different psychiatric pharmaceuticals, causing her to be bedridden for over a year and have a near death experience. She returned with tremendous gifts of healing people whose lives have included psychiatric meds.
Please come and invite other people who have been psychiatrically d...iagnosed themselves, those seeking alternatives, and people supporting others who are looking for alternatives to meds. Healers, trauma survivors, and medical practitioners/therapists will benefit.
All are welcome regardless of whether you have a diagnosis, take meds, or are supporting others.
Chaya has worked as a teacher, healer and advocate with The Freedom Center, Western Massachusetts Training Consortium and Alternative To Meds Center. She was the commuity organizer at the Mental Health Association of Portland, assistant director of Portland Hearing Voices and a Warm Line Specialist at the Mental Health Association of San Francisco. She has taught classes at California Institute of Integral Studies to their spiritual emergence group.

Harlequin Productions Explores Family Dynamics With

August: Osage County

Directed by Aaron Lamb

Beginning August 24, Harlequin Productions presents August: Osage County at the State Theater in downtown Olympia. This family drama is a 2008 Pulitzer Prize winner written by Tracy Letts. The production runs from August 24 – September 16, and tickets are available at www.harlequinproductions.org or 360-786-0151.

Set in a huge farmhouse on the plains of modern day, middle-class Oklahoma, August: Osage County is darkly comic as it shares the revelations of the embattled Weston family. They are all intelligent and sensitive but have the uncanny ability of making each other absolutely miserable. When the esteemed poet patriarch of the household mysteriously vanishes, the Weston clan gathers together to simultaneously support and attack one another as they negotiate the hilariously cynical and drug fueled force field generated by the devious matriarch, Violet.

American opera singer Ellen McLainheads up the cast as the pill popping Violet. Ellen is best known for her roles as GLaDOS in the video game series Portal as well as the feature film Pacific Rim. The remaining cast includes an array of regional and local actors: Angela DiMarco, Doug Fahl, Ann Flannigan, J. Forbes, Dana Goodknight, Jenny Vaughn Hall, Jason Haws, Russ Holm, Bill Johns, John Lowrie, Mackenzie Platt, and Brian Pucheu.
