Petron Corporation

Petron Corp. (PSE: PCOR) is the largest oil refining and marketing company in the Philippines, supplying more than a third of the country’s oil requirements.

Petron operates a refinery in Limay, Bataan, with a rated capacity of 180,000 barrels per day (29,000 m³/d). From the refinery, Petron moves their products mainly by sea to 32 depots and terminals in the country. They operate a lube oil blending plant at their Pandacan Terminal, where it manufactures lubes and greases.

Petron is public company listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange. A 51-percent stake is owned by the Philippine food and beverage giant San Miguel Corporation (SMC) while the Ashmore Group owns 40 percent. The remaining shares—about 9 percent—are held by the public.

History

Petron's history dates back to September 7, 1933 when the Socony Vacuum Oil Company of New York and Standard Oil of New Jersey formed the Standard Vacuum Oil Company (Stanvac). The end of the venture in the early 1960s split the marketing and refining interests of the company between Mobil (the renamed Socony Vacuum Oil Company) and Esso (the renamed of Standard Oil New Jersey, soon to be Exxon), with its Philippine branch now named Esso Philippines, with offices in Manila and later on in Makati.

Lamborghini

Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. (Italian: [lamborˈɡiːni]) is an Italian brand and manufacturer of luxury sports cars and, formerly, SUVs, which is owned by the Volkswagen Group through its subsidiary brand division Audi. Lamborghini's production facility and headquarters are located in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy. In 2011, Lamborghini's 831 employees produced 1,711 vehicles.

Ferruccio Lamborghini, an Italian manufacturing magnate, founded Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini S.p.A. in 1963 to compete with established marques, including Ferrari. The company gained wide acclaim in 1966 for the Miura sports coupé, which established rear mid-engine, rear wheel drive as the standard layout for high-performance cars of the era. Lamborghini grew rapidly during its first decade, but sales plunged in the wake of the 1973 worldwide financial downturn and the oil crisis. The firm's ownership changed three times after 1973, including a bankruptcy in 1978. American Chrysler Corporation took control of Lamborghini in 1987 and sold it to Malaysian investment group Mycom Setdco and Indonesian group V'Power Corporation in 1994. In 1998, Mycom Setdco and V'Power sold Lamborghini to the Volkswagen Group where it was placed under the control of the group's Audi division.

Lamborghini Aventador

The Lamborghini Aventador is a mid-engined sports car produced by the Italian manufacturer Lamborghini.

Launched on 28 February 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show, five months after its initial unveiling in Sant'Agata Bolognese, the vehicle, internally codenamed LB834, was designed to replace the ten-year-old Murciélago as the new flagship model.

Soon after the Aventador unveiling, Lamborghini announced that it had already sold over 12 of the production vehicles, with deliveries starting in the second half of 2011. By June 2013, Lamborghini had already built 2,000 Aventadors, taking two years to achieve this milestone.

Background

In keeping with Lamborghini tradition, the Aventador is also named after a fighting bull. Aventador (pronounced: [aβentaˈðoɾ]) was a bull that fought particularly valiantly in the bull ring of Zaragoza, Spain in 1993. The bull which the Aventador is named after earned the Trofeo de la Peña La Madroñera for its courage in the arena.
