York County may refer to:
York (i/ˈjɔːrk/) is a historic walled city at the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire, England, and is the traditional county town of Yorkshire to which it gives its name. The city has a rich heritage and has provided the backdrop to major political events in England throughout much of its two millennia of existence. The city offers a wealth of historic attractions, of which York Minster is the most prominent, and a variety of cultural and sporting activities making it a popular tourist destination for millions.
The city was founded by the Romans as Eboracum in 71 AD. It became the capital of the Roman province of Britannia Inferior, and later of the kingdoms of Northumbria and Jórvík. In the Middle Ages, York grew as a major wool trading centre and became the capital of the northern ecclesiastical province of the Church of England, a role it has retained.
In the 19th century, York became a hub of the railway network and a confectionery manufacturing centre. In recent decades, the economy of York has moved from being dominated by its confectionery and railway-related industries to one that provides services. The University of York and health services have become major employers, whilst tourism has become an important element of the local economy.
A county, abbreviated Cnty. (US) or Co. (UK and Ireland), is a geographical region of a country used for administrative or other purposes, in certain modern nations. The term is derived from the Old French conté or cunté denoting a jurisdiction under the sovereignty of a count (earl) or a viscount. The modern French is comté, and its equivalents in other languages are contea, contado, comtat, condado, Grafschaft, graafschap, Gau, etc. (cf. conte, comte, conde, Graf).
When the Normans conquered England, they brought the term with them. The Saxons had already established the districts that became the historic counties of England, calling them shires (many county names derive from the name of the county town with the word "shire" added on: for example, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire). The Vikings introduced the term earl (from Old Norse, jarl) to the British Isles. Thus, "earl" and "earldom" were taken as equivalent to the continental use of "count" and "county". So the later-imported term became a synonym for the native English word scir ([ʃiːr]) or, in Modern English, shire. Since a shire was an administrative division of the kingdom, the term "county" evolved to designate an administrative division of national government in most modern uses.
York County School of Technology, or "YCST", formerly known as York County Area Vocational-Technical School, is located at 2179 S. Queen St. in York, Pennsylvania. The school accepts students from 14 sending school districts within York County. York County School of Technology, the oldest on-going career and technical school in the United States, is a comprehensive career and technical school for students who want help to provide experience in a career field for their future. The career areas or programs, commonly called "shops", are divided into three academies: "Arts and Human Services", "Engineering and Construction.", and "Manufacturing and Transportation." Each academy has 2 career pathways. The schools colors are green and white, and the mascot is the Spartan.
In 2006 York County School of Technology went under construction and acquired two additional wings, which are now the Manufacturing and Transportation and Engineering and Construction academies. The Arts and Human Services Academy was remodeled during the school year of 2007.
A prison, correctional facility, penitentiary, gaol (Ireland, UK, Australia), or jail is a facility in which inmates are forcibly confined and denied a variety of freedoms under the authority of the state as a form of punishment. The most common use of prisons is within a criminal justice system. People charged with crimes may be imprisoned until they are brought to trial; those pleading or being found guilty of crimes at trial may be sentenced to a specified period of imprisonment. Besides their use for punishing civil crimes, authoritarian regimes also frequently use prisons and jails as tools of political repression to punish what are deemed political crimes, often without trial or other legal due process; this use is illegal under most forms of international law governing fair administration of justice. In times of war, prisoners of war or detainees may be detained in military prisons or prisoner of war camps, and large groups of civilians might be imprisoned in internment camps.

Abandoned prison in Pennsylvania. Prisoners were subjected to horrible conditions before it was closed. Executions via hanging were conducted in a hallway behind the main stairwell, with a trapdoor plunging the body into the basement below. The prison is rumored to be haunted. York County Prison was constructed around 1906 and closed roughly 70 years later when a new prison was built. This prison gained notoriety when it was found to have been serving road-kill to inmates. This is one of a multi-part update from our recent 2,600 mile road trip. See the photos here: http://sublunarphotography.blogspot.com/2016/04/prison-6.html

This week on #CrimeStoppers of York County #WantedWednesday there are three cases police agencies in the county could use a bit of help in locating the suspects. If you can assist, and your tip leads to an arrest, you could earn a reward.
I was a camera operator for this piece and took some pictures that the sheriffs office used as well.
