Netflix Developing ‘Rhythm & Flow’ Hip-Hop Competition Show From John Legend, Jeff Gaspin (Exclusive)

9 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

ABC, NBC, and Fox all have new music competitions in the works. Now Netflix wants in on the action.

Variety has learned that the streaming service is developing “Rhythm & Flow,” a new show from producer John Legend and his Get Lifted Film Co. and former NBC executive Jeff Gaspin and Primary Wave Entertainment. The unscripted series is a classic shiny-floor music competition that focuses on a particular genre: hip-hop music.

No talent is attached at this stage to the project, which has yet to receive a series order from Netflix. There is no indication as to whether Legend would be involved in the show in an on-camera capacity. Representatives for Netflix and Primary Wave declined to comment.

Netflix has found recent success in original unscripted programming with documentary-style series such as Emmy winner “Making a Murderer” and Emmy nominee “The Keepers,” as well as in the variety-talk genre with Chelsea Handler’s “Chelsea.” The »

‘The Bachelor’ Shocker: Arie Luyendyk Jr. to Star in Season 22

15 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The wait is finally over. ABC revealed on Thursday that Arie Luyendyk Jr. will be the star of “The Bachelor” Season 22.

Luyendyk Jr. is known to Bachelor Nation from appearing as the runner-up on Emily Maynard’s season of “The Bachelorette” back in 2012.

The announcement came as a shock to the Bachelor Nation as fans expected Peter Kraus, the runner-up from the most recent season of “The Bachelorette” (with Rachel Lindsay), or Luke Pell, who came in second the previous season (with JoJo Fletcher), to be named the new Bachelor.

Luyendyk Jr. was announced as the next “Bachelor” Thursday morning on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

“This just fit perfect — the timing of this really fit for me,” Luyendyk, who was “The Bachelorette” Season 8 runner-up, told Michael Strahan on “Good Morning America.” “I was a little skeptical, just because we’d been in talks for a few years about doing it, and »

Five of the Sickest Home Security Systems from Movies

1 hour ago | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Wanting to defend your home is a common trend among most people, being able to defend your home all depends on what kind of measures you take. In the movies this can mean spreading a wide assortment of toys on the floor in the hopes that burglars won’t look down and will, in comedic fashion, slip and knock the wind out of themselves, or even installing a panic room that essentially seals off the most important part of the home, your family. But some people have taken home defense to a rather ridiculous level in movies. Usually there’s a reason

Disney characters are always being re-imagined into different characters and with different venues around them and honestly I think it’s great. Some are a little more disturbing than others but as anime these Disney characters showcased below look pretty cool. DuckLordEthan must be a lover of anime and Disney alike because quite honestly the artist has captured a look that is not only masterful but it’s also kind of nice and refreshing. It’s always great to see what someone else comes up with in regards to something that’s already been established. The chance to see what other people are thinking

CBS Plans Celebrity Edition of ‘Big Brother’ for Winter

2 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

CBS is extending the “Big Brother” franchise into the regular September-May season with plans for its first celebrity edition of the show set to air this winter.

The move marks the first time the housebound reality-competition series has aired outside of the summer months since 2008, when CBS fired up a special edition of the show to help fill the primetime void during the 100-day writers strike.

The cast for the show has yet to be announced. Julie Chen will be back in her regular role as host. The CBS-owned cabler Pop TV will again carry the live companion show “Big Brother After Dark,” offering an unfiltered feed of the goings-on in the house during the late-night hours.

“ ‘Big Brother’ has been dominating pop culture throughout its 19 seasons, and it is exciting to grow the franchise with the first-ever celebrity edition in the U.S.,” said longtime “Big Brother” executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan.

Cable, Digital Execs Talk Rising Costs of Television Production, Marketing

3 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Netflix has shifted the balance of power in the television universe, pouring money into original programming and handing out generous straight-to-series orders. But Kevin Reilly, president of TNT and TBS, believes that there is an upside to Netflix’s tactics for linear and digital competitors.

“I’m finding for the first time in a while, people are kind of going, wait a minute — it’s great if you’re ‘Orange Is the New Black’ and you won the trophy, but [not] when you’re one of the many, many other pieces of content where it dropped one day and you called and said, ‘How are we doing?’ and they, say, ‘You’re doing well,'” Reilly said Thursday. “But nobody was talking about it. There was no premiere party. There was no marketing around it. People say, ‘My mother didn’t even know it was on.’ There’s a variety of things that come into play [when competing for talent], including what »

That is unless the person has embraced their past mistakes and is very forthcoming about them.
