This is a ride on the longest sledge track in Switzerland - 12 km downhill. Its a lot of fun, but you'd better know how to handle a sledge - some parts go over a cliff and the fall down if you go off track will be long and painful ;-)
The original ride was a bit bumpy but I stabilized the video on processing

Sleigh Ride
"Sleigh Ride" is a popular light orchestral piece composed by Leroy Anderson. The composer had the original idea for the piece during a heat wave in July 1946 finished the work in February 1948. It was originally an instrumental piece; the lyrics, about a person who would like to ride in a sleigh on a winter's day with another person, were written by Mitchell Parish in 1950. The orchestral version was first recorded in 1949 by Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra. The song was a hit record on RCA Victor Red Seal 49-0515 (45 rpm) / 10-1484 (78 rpm), and has become the equivalent of a signature song for the orchestra. The 45 rpm version was originally issued on red vinyl. The Pops has also recorded the song with John Williams, their conductor from 1979 to 1995, and Keith Lockhart, their current conductor. Over the years, the song has become a Christmas standard.
Details
Leroy Anderson recorded his own version of "Sleigh Ride" in 1950 on Decca 9-16000 (45 rpm) / 16000 (78 rpm). The recording hit the Cashbox magazine best-sellers chart when re-released in 1952.

André Rieu
André Léon Marie Nicolas Rieu (born 1 October 1949) is a Dutch violinist and conductor best known for creating the waltz-playing Johann Strauss Orchestra. Together they have turned classical and waltz music into a worldwide concert touring act, as successful as some of the biggest global pop and rock music acts. For his work, Rieu has been awarded such honours as the Order of the Netherlands Lion by the Netherlands, the Knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by France, and the Honorary Medal by his native Province of Limburg.
Rieu began studying violin at the age of five. He created the Maastricht Salon Orchestra in 1978, and went on to create the Johann Strauss Orchestra in 1988.
Early life
The name Rieu is of French Huguenot origin. Rieu's father, of the same name, was conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra. Showing early promise, André began studying violin at the age of five. From a very young age, he developed a fascination with orchestra. He studied violin at the Conservatoire Royal in Liège and at the Conservatorium Maastricht, (1968–1973), studying under Jo Juda and Herman Krebbers. From 1974 to 1977, he attended the Music Academy in Brussels, studying with André Gertler, finally receiving his degree "Premier Prix" from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.

The Ronettes
The Ronettes were an American girl group from New York City. One of the most popular groups from the 1960s, they placed nine songs on the Billboard Hot 100, five of which became Top 40 hits. The trio from Spanish Harlem, New York, consisted of lead singer Veronica Bennett (later known as Ronnie Spector), her older sister Estelle Bennett and their cousin Nedra Talley. Among the Ronettes' most famous songs are "Be My Baby", "Baby, I Love You", "(The Best Part of) Breakin' Up", and "Walking in the Rain", all of which charted on the Billboard Hot 100. "Walking in the Rain" won a Grammy Award in 1965, and "Be My Baby" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. The Ronettes were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
The girls had sung together since they were teenagers, when they were known as "The Darling Sisters". Signed first by Colpix Records in 1961, they moved to Phil Spector's Philles Records in March 1963, and changed their name to "The Ronettes." In late 1964, the group released their only studio album, Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica, which entered the Billboard charts at number 96. Rolling Stone ranked it number 422 on its list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The group were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004. The Ronettes were the only girl group to tour with the Beatles.

Making the most of my long layover in Beijing, the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall was only an hour and 20 minutes drive from the airport (PEK). For ¥100 Yuan or about $15.00 USD you can take a chairlift up and walk along the wall. You have the choice to hike down, ride the chairlift back down or walk about 1/4 mile to the toboggan run - the choice is obvious. The Mutianyu section is stunning, built along the high mountain ridges with miles of the wall visible on a clear day. My visit was during China's springtime and the cherry & peach trees dotted the landscape in full blossom. Making the most of my long layover in Beijing, the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall was only an hour and 20 minutes drive from the airport (PEK). For ¥100 Yuan or about $15.00 USD you can take a chairlift up and walk along the wall. You have the choice to hike down, ride the chairlift back down or walk about 1/4 mile to the toboggan run - the choice is obvious. The Mutianyu section is stunning, built along the high mountain ridges with miles of the wall visible on a clear day. My visit was during China's springtime and the cherry & peach trees dotted the landscape in full blossom.

This is a single-pipe alpine coaster in Mieders, Austria. You reach the summit via a cablecar and then sit on a small car with a brake lever and off you go. Having ridden it once using a little braking, I decided to try it a second time without using the brakes. This is SCARY! Enjoy the ride!

Kiruna, Sweden Dog Sledding 6 Day Tour - Jukkasjärvi Wilderness Tours
In January 2013 I went on a 6 Day dog sledding adventure in Kiruna, Sweden. I don't know how to describe it other than totally awesome. Such a great experience. Cold but not too cold, around -20C during the day and maybe -30ish at night. Snowed non stop most of the time, which means we rarely saw the sun or stars, but that was the trade off for slightly warmer temps. Great tour company (http://www.JVT.se). I booked the tour through Nature Travels in the UK (http://www.naturetravels.co.uk). We had an awesome guide, Marcus, who really made the trip great. Saw the northern lights only one night unfortunately, but at least got good photos that night. The last day was a bit rough (deep snow and water on the lake ice), Marcus said it was the hardest day he's out that year.

Six Day Dog Sledding Mountain Tour, Kiruna Sweden
In Late February 2014, I went on a six day dog sledding tour along the "King's Trail" in the mountains of Sweden. The tour company was Jukkasjärvi VildmarksTurer (www.JVT.se) and our tour guide was Markus Wiklund. This was my second tour over there, first time in the mountains. Our guide told us that this was only the second time in seven years that he had clear skies and no wind on the tour, we really got lucky with the weather. Also, a day before we left, the largest solar flare of 2014 was spit out by the sun, so we were treated to a sky full of northern lights (although we only had two completely clear nights to get good views). In January 2013 I went on a 6 Day dog sledding adventure in Kiruna, Sweden. I don't know how to describe it other than totally awesome. Such a great experience. Cold but not too cold, around -20C during the day and maybe -30ish at night. Snowed non stop most of the time, which means we rarely saw the sun or stars, but that was the trade off for slightly warmer temps. Great tour company (http://www.JVT.se). I booked the tour through Nature Travels in the UK (http://www.naturetravels.co.uk). We had an awesome guide, Marcus, who really made the trip great. Saw the northern lights only one night unfortunately, but at least got good photos that night. The last day was a bit rough (deep snow and water on the lake ice), Marcus said it was the hardest day he's out that year.

For over 20 years, Nicolas Vanier, an untiring voyager in the coldest of climes, a veritable Jack London of modern times, has criss-crossed the wildest regions of the far northern lands. His travels include major expeditions in Siberia, Lapland, Alaska and of course Canada, where he recently undertook an incredible White Odyssey: 8600 kilometres covered with a team of sledge dogs, from Alaska all the way to Quebec. It was during that crossing, on the floor of a sumptuous and inaccessible valley in the Rocky Mountains, that Nicolas met the man who inspired him to make this film, a film that has lived within the man...
He's a 50-year-old trapper named Norman Winter, and he lives with a Nahanni woman, Nebaska. Norman has always been a trapper, with no need of the things that civilisation has to offer. He and his dogs live simply on what they produce from hunting and fishing. Norman made his sledge, snowshoes, cabin and canoe with wood and leather that he took from the forest and that Nebaska tanned, in the traditional style, just like the Sekani did in early times, using the tannin in animal brains, then by smoking the skin. To move around, Norman uses his dogs. They're quiet, and with them he's ready for action at the slightest sign of life, but all the while attentive to the majestic grandeur of the territories he passes through. That's why Norman Winter is a trapper. The Great North is inside him and Nebaska carries it within her, in her blood, for the taiga is the mother of its people...
Norman and Nebaska know that a land only lives through its intimate links with the animals, plants, rivers, winds and even colours. Their wisdom comes from the deep and special relationship they enjoy with nature. When Norman Winter follows an animal's trail, he studies it for a long time, to understand the animal's exact perception of its environment. He knows how to free himself from the immobile image that a land evokes, then to "enter" it by comprehending what it is. To understand that is to sense the unmistakable breathing of the earth, it's to understand why Norman Winter is the last trapper and why he turned his back on modern life, that he compares to a slope we slip down blindly. Norman is a sort of philosopher convinced that the notion of sharing and exchange with nature is essential to the equilibrium of that odd animal at the top of the food chain: Man.
That's what this film, made over 12 months, will present, overlaying treks on horseback during the Indian summer and by sledge in the depths of winter, a canoe ride down a raging river at the bottom of a majestic canyon and attacks by grizzly bears and wolves...

In Late February 2014, I went on a six day dog sledding tour along the "King's Trail" in the mountains of Sweden. The tour company was Jukkasjärvi VildmarksTurer (www.JVT.se) and our tour guide was Markus Wiklund. This was my second tour over there, first time in the mountains. Our guide told us that this was only the second time in seven years that he had clear skies and no wind on the tour, we really got lucky with the weather. Also, a day before we left, the largest solar flare of 2014 was spit out by the sun, so we were treated to a sky full of northern lights (although we only had two completely clear nights to get good views).
I shot most of the footage with two GoPros. Some time-lapse sequences, including the night ones, were shot on a Canon 6D. A few other shots were on a Canon Powershot Elph. Everything was edited with Apple's Final Cut pro, and time-lapse sequences with Adobe Lightroom and LRTimelapse.
