Požega is a city settlement and the seat of the municipality of the same name in the Zlatibor district. According to the 2022 census, there were 12,362 inhabitants. During the existence of Yugoslavia, the name of this place was Užička Požega, to distinguish it from Slavonska Požega. It is located 180 km from Belgrade and 25 km from Užice. Požega is one of the most important traffic hubs in this part of Serbia. It consists of the Belgrade - Bar and Požega - Stalać railways, the existing highways M-21 and M-22 and the planned highways MP - 763 Belgrade-Požega - Boljare - South Adriatic and E-761 Požega - Kotroman - Višegrad - Sarajevo. This traffic position contributes to Požega being at the crossroads of two belts of intensive development, along the Western Morava and along the stretch Belgrade-Bar. Here is the Požega Railway Station, which houses the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum. Požega is located in the middle of the Požega basin at 300 meters above sea level. To the east, Požega is separated from Čačak by the mountains Ovčar 985 m and Kablar 889 m, which form a gorge. In Požega there is also a fruit and vegetable processing plant called Budimka. There are 10,515 adult residents living in the village of Požega, and the average age of the population is 37.8 years (36.8 for men and 38.7 for women). There are 4,197 households in the settlement, and the average number of members per household is 3.15. This settlement is largely inhabited by Serbs (according to the 2002 census), and in the last three censuses, an increase in the number of inhabitants was observed. The fertile land and rivers in this basin influenced people to settle here early. Investigations show that there were settlements on the site of today's Požega 2,600 years before Christ. In the municipality of Požega, there are archeological material excavations and evidence of the existence of Neolithic settlements, Illyrian burials, prehistoric mounds, necropolis under the mounds, ancient settlements, ancient necropolises as well as a Roman settlement. Since the 7th century AD, these areas have been inhabited by Slavs. Constantine Porphyrogenitus, a Byzantine ruler and historian from the 10th century, mentions "inhabited cities" in Raška. Among others, he mentions Dresnik and Megyretus. The first one is assumed to have been located on the site of today's Drežnica Castle, between Požega and Užice. The Megyretus fort has not been located either. Based on insufficiently reliable data, he was located between Djetinja and Rzav, not far from Požega. At the end of the 12th century, the territory around Požega and Užice became part of Nemanja's medieval state, as documented by the charter of the Studenica monastery from 1196. Nothing is reliably known about Požega, but in today's area of the city, the names of Stefan Dečanski are mentioned, in whose time Požega and its surroundings were in the possession of Vojin of Vsciz, who is mentioned in Dubrovnik records. After the death of Stefan Dušan in 1335, the area of Požega was ruled by the magnate Vojislav Vojinović, and after him Nikola Altomanović. It was mentioned in the Middle Ages as a larger settlement and the seat of the wider Ban Milutin area, which is mentioned in the folk epic on the occasion of the battle on Velbužd in 1330. Stefan Lazarević, in 1405, donated five villages in Moravica parish to the Mileševi monastery (two Guglja, Rasna, Šengolj and Rupeljevo - five present-day Požega villages). During the uprising in Serbia in 1941 during World War II, Požega was the center of Chetnik forces in the free territory in western Serbia, later called the Užice Republic. With the liberation of Požega, Arilje and Ivanjica, the JVUO forces held all the towns in the Moravica valley under their authority. Њега чине железничке пруге Београд - Бар и Пожега - Сталаћ, постојећи магистрални путеви М-21 и М-22 и планирани ауто-путеви МП - 763 Београд-Пожега - Бољаре - Јужни Јадран и Е-761 Пожега - Котроман - Вишеград - Сарајево. Овакав саобраћајни положај доприноси да Пожега буде на раскршћу два појаса интензивног развоја, дуж Западне Мораве и дуж потеза Београд-Бар. Овде се налази Железничка станица Пожега у оквиру које је смештен Железнички музеј узаног колосека. Пожега се налази у средини Пожешке котлине на 300 метара надморске висине. На истоку Пожегу од Чачка одвајају планине Овчар 985 m и Каблар 889 m, које тиме граде клисуру. У Пожеги се такође налази фабрика за прераду воћа и поврћа Будимка. У насељу Пожега живи 10.515 пунолетних становника, а просечна старост становништва износи 37,8 година. У насељу има 4.197 домаћинстава, а просечан број чланова по домаћинству је 3,15. Ово насеље је великим делом насељено Србима (према попису из 2002. године), а у последња три пописа, примећен је пораст у броју становника.
