The Moravian-Silesian region is located in the most eastern part of the Czech Republic. From Prague city centre its about 300 km as the crow flies. By converting this figure to a transportation time, it is only 1 hour by air, 3 hours by rail and 4 hours by road. If we perceive the region supra-regionally, its position is very conveniently on the border of three countries almost in the centre of the European area. If you look at the whole of Europe, the region is situated between the Austrian Vienna, Polish Hornoslezskou agglomeration and Slovak Bratislava. Power of this position throughout the region is further emphasized by the regional participants trying to link some of the activities of Moravian-Silesian region, Žilina Autonomous Region and Województwa Śląskiego in certain activities with a view of creating significant territorial centres in the European perspective.

Right, Here we are driving along a single carriageway road doing about 60 mph and on comes an raging fellow Skoda octavia overtaking us near missing a BMW and after we overtake a lorry. We took the Skoda back to its homeland :)
Rating the overtake itself. Our car had the 1.6 8V (Produces about 100bhp with lots of low down grunt) with LPG conversion. We had four people in the car including one rather large person.
The overtaking car another skoda octavia was a later model and we assume it was the 1.9 TDI engine yet we couldn't exactly tell. This engine has lots of low down overtaking grunt and had no problem overtaking us, yet we assume the driver is a bit of a boy racer because he front LED lights (looked a bit of a pratt)

Following the third Silesian Uprising (1921), however, the easternmost portion of Upper Silesia (including Katowice), with a majority ethnic Polish population, was finally awarded to Poland, where it formed the Autonomous Silesian Voivodeship. The Prussian Province of Silesia within Germany was divided into the Provinces of Lower Silesia and Upper Silesia. Meanwhile Austrian Silesia, the small portion of Silesia retained by Austria after the Silesian Wars, was mostly awarded to the new Czechoslovakia (becoming known as Czech Silesia), although most of Cieszyn and territory to the east of it went to Poland / Zaolzie.
In 1945, at the end of World War II, all of the former German Silesia was occupied by the Soviet Union, and under the post-war border changes most of it became part of Poland. As a result the vast majority of the ethnic German population was expelled by force and replaced by Polish settlers, most of whom had themselves been expropriated and expelled from the eastern parts of Poland (Kresy) that had been annexed by the Soviet Union.
The administrative division of Silesia within Poland has changed several times since 1945. Since 1999 it has been divided between Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Opole Voivodeship, Silesian Voivodeship and Lubusz Voivodeship. Czech Silesia is now part of the Czech Republic, forming the Moravian-Silesian Region and the northern part of Olomouc Region. Germany retains the Silesian-Lusatian region (Niederschlesien-Oberlausitz or Schlesische Oberlausitz) west of the Neisse, which is part of the federal-state of Saxony.

With the city of Ostrava roughly in its geographic center, the area comprises much of the modern region of Moravian-Silesia (save for its southern edges) and, in its far west, a small part of the Olomouc Region around the city of Jeseník. After Ostrava, the most important cities are Opava and Český Těšín. Historically Český Těšín is the western part of the city of Cieszyn which nowadays lies in Poland.

The Czech Republic (

The Czech state was formed in the late 9th century as the Duchy of Bohemia under the Great Moravian Empire. In 1004, the duchy was formally recognized as part of the Holy Roman Empire, becoming the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1212, and reaching its greatest territorial extent in the 14th century. The King of Bohemia ruled not only Bohemia itself, but also other lands, which together formed the so-called Crown of Bohemia, and he had a vote in the election of the Holy Roman Emperor. In the Hussite wars of the 15th century driven by the Bohemian Reformation, the kingdom faced economic embargoes and defeated five crusades proclaimed by the leaders of the Roman Catholic Church and organized mainly by the emperor and princes of the Holy Roman Empire.

Silesia (/saɪliːʒə/ or /saɪliːʃə/; Polish: Śląsk [ɕlɔ̃sk]; German: 
Schlesien German pronunciation: [ʃleːziːɛn]; Silesian German: Schläsing; Czech: Slezsko; Silesian: Ślůnsk [ɕlonsk]; Latin: Silesia) is a region of Central Europe now located mostly in Poland, with small parts in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany. It has about 40,000 km2 (15,444 sq mi) and almost 8,000,000 inhabitants. Silesia is located along the Odra river. It consists of Lower Silesia and Upper Silesia.
The region is rich in mineral and natural resources and includes several important industrial areas. Silesia's largest city is Wrocław (German: Breslau; Czech: Vratislav). The biggest metropolitan area is the Upper Silesian metropolitan area, the centre of which is Katowice. Parts of the Czech city of Ostrava fall within the borders of Silesia.
Silesia's borders and national affiliation have changed over time, both when it was a hereditary possession of noble houses and after the rise of modern nation-states. The first known states to hold power there were probably those of Greater Moravia at the end of the 9th century and Bohemia early in the 10th century. In the 10th century Silesia was incorporated into the early Polish state, and after its division in the 12th century became a Piast duchy. In the 14th century it became a constituent part of the Bohemian Crown Lands under the Holy Roman Empire, which passed to the Austrian Habsburg Monarchy in 1526.

Upper Silesia
Upper Silesia (Polish: Górny Śląsk; Silesian: Gůrny Ślůnsk;Czech: Horní Slezsko; German: Oberschlesien; Silesian German: Oberschläsing; Latin: Silesia Superior) is the southeastern part of the historical and geographical region of Silesia. Since the 9th century, Upper Silesia has been part of (chronologically) Greater Moravia, the Duchy of Bohemia, the Piast Kingdom of Poland, again of the Lands of the Bohemian Crown and the Holy Roman Empire, as well as of the Habsburg Monarchy from 1526. In 1742 the bulk of Upper Silesia was annexed by the Kingdom of Prussia, and in 1871 became part of the German Empire. These became part of the Republic of Poland in 1945.
Geography
Upper Silesia is situated on the upper Oder River, north of the Eastern Sudetes mountain range and the Moravian Gate, which form the southern border with the historic Moravia region. Within the adjacent Silesian Beskids to the east, the Vistula River rises and turns eastwards, the Biała and Przemsza tributaries mark the eastern border with Lesser Poland. In the north, Upper Silesia borders on Greater Poland, and in the west on the Lower Silesian lands (the adjacent region around Wrocław also referred to as Middle Silesia).

This engine has lots of low down overtaking grunt and had no problem overtaking us, yet we assume the driver is a bit of a boy racer because he front LED lights (looked a bit of a pratt)

Rating the overtake itself. Our car had the 1.6 8V (Produces about 100bhp with lots of low down grunt) with LPG conversion. We had four people in the car including one rather large person.

Meanwhile Austrian Silesia, the small portion of Silesia retained by Austria after the Silesian Wars, was mostly awarded to the new Czechoslovakia (becoming known as Czech Silesia), although most of Cieszyn and territory to the east of it went to Poland / Zaolzie.
In 1945, at the end of World War II, all of the former German Silesia was occupied by the Soviet Union, and under the post-war border changes most of it became part of Poland. The administrative division of Silesia within Poland has changed several times since 1945. Poland is one of the larger countries in Central Europe. It has a long Baltic Sea coastline and is bordered by Belarus, the Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania, Russia (the Kaliningrad Oblast exclave), Slovakia, and Ukraine.
Cities
------------
Most of the major cities boast lovely old centres and a range of splendid buildings, some of them World Heritage sites. Many old quarters were heavily damaged or even destroyed in WWII bombings, but were meticulously rebuilt after the war, using the original bricks and ornaments where possible. Although remains of the Soviet Union and even scars of the Second World War are visible in most of them, the Polish cities offer great historic sight seeing while at the same time they have become modern, lively places. The capital, Warsaw, has one of the best old centres and its many sights include the ancient city walls, palaces, churches and squares. You can follow the Royal Route to see some of the best landmarks outside the old centre. The old city of Kraków is considered the country's cultural capital, with another gorgeous historic centre, countless monumental buildings and a few excellent museums. Just 50 km from there is the humbling Auschwitz concentration camp which, due to the horrible events it represents, leaves an impression like no other World Heritage Site does. The ancient Wieliczka Salt Mine, also a World Heritage Site, is another great daytrip from Kraków.
The provincial capital of Poznań is an underestimated city, but definitely worth a visit. With the oldest cathedral in the country and also the second biggest necropolis in the country for kings and rulers, a beautiful Renaissance town hall with two battling billy goats (seen only around noon), and an impressive 20th century imperial palace built for the German kaiser (just to mention a few attractions) makes a great impression on most visitors.
Once a Hanseatic League town, the port city of Gdańsk boasts many impressive buildings from that time. Here too, a walk along the Royal Road gives a great overview of notable sights. Wrocław, the capital of Lower Silesia, is still less well-known but can definitely compete when it comes to amazing architecture; its Centennial Hall being the prime example. The city's picturesque location on the Oder and countless bridges make this huge city a lovely place. The old town of Zamość was planned after Italian theories of the "ideal town" and named "a unique example of a Renaissance town in Central Europe" by UNESCO. The stunning medieval city of Toruń has some great and original Gothic architecture, as it is one of the few Polish cities to have completely escaped devastation in WWII. The city of Lublin additionally boasts an impressive historic old town, castle, and serene surrounding countryside.
Natural attractions

With 23 national parks and a number of landscape parks spread all over the country, natural attractions are never too far away. Białowieża National Park, on the Belarus border, is a World Heritage Site as it comprises the last remains of the primeval forest that once covered most of Europe. It's the only place where European bison still live in the wild. If you're fit and up for adventure, take the dangerous Eagle's Path (Orla Perć) in the Tatra Mountains, where you'll also find Rysy, Poland's highest peak. Pieniński National Park boasts the stunning Dunajec River Gorge and Karkonoski National Park is home to some fabulous waterfalls. The mountainous Bieszczady National Park has great hiking opportunities and lots of wildlife. Wielkopolska National Park is, in contrast, very flat and covers a good part of the pretty Poznań Lakeland. The Masurian Landscape Park, in the Masurian Lake District, with its 2000 lakes, is at least as beautiful. Bory Tucholskie National Park has the largest woodland in the country and has many lakes too, making it great for birdwatching. The two national parks on Poland's coast are also quite popular: Wolin National Park is located on an island in the north-west, and Słowiński National Park holds some of the largest sand dunes in Europe.

Moravian-Silesian region
The Moravian-Silesian region is located in the most eastern part of the Czech Republic. From Prague city centre its about 300 km as the crow flies. By converting this figure to a transportation time, it is only 1 hour by air, 3 hours by rail and 4 hours by road. If we perceive the region supra-regionally, its position is very conveniently on the border of three countries almost in the centre of the European area. Czech Silesia Overtake
Right, Here we are driving along a single carriageway road doing about 60 mph and on comes an raging fellow Skoda octavia overtaking us near missing a BMW and after we overtake a lorry. We took the Skoda back to its homeland :) Rating the overtake itself. Our car had the 1.6 8V (Produces about 100bhp with lots of low down grunt) with LPG conversion. We had four people in the car including one rather large person. The overtaking car another skoda octavia was a later model and we assume it was the 1.9 TDI engine yet we couldn't exactly tell. If we perceive the region supra-regionally, its position is very conveniently on the border of three countries almost in the centre of the European area. If you look at the whole of Europe, the region is situated between the Austrian Vienna, Polish Hornoslezskou agglomeration and Slovak Bratislava. Power of this position throughout the region is further emphasized by the regional participants trying to link some of the activities of Moravian-Silesian region, Žilina Autonomous Region and Województwa Śląskiego in certain activities with a view of creating significant territorial centres in the European perspective.

Right, Here we are driving along a single carriageway road doing about 60 mph and on comes an raging fellow Skoda octavia overtaking us near missing a BMW and after we overtake a lorry. We took the Skoda back to its homeland :)
Rating the overtake itself. Our car had the 1.6 8V (Produces about 100bhp with lots of low down grunt) with LPG conversion. We had four people in the car including one rather large person.
The overtaking car another skoda octavia was a later model and we assume it was the 1.9 TDI engine yet we couldn't exactly tell. Following the third Silesian Uprising (1921), however, the easternmost portion of Upper Silesia (including Katowice), with a majority ethnic Polish population, was finally awarded to Poland, where it formed the Autonomous Silesian Voivodeship. The Prussian Province of Silesia within Germany was divided into the Provinces of Lower Silesia and Upper Silesia. Meanwhile Austrian Silesia, the small portion of Silesia retained by Austria after the Silesian Wars, was mostly awarded to the new Czechoslovakia (becoming known as Czech Silesia), although most of Cieszyn and territory to the east of it went to Poland / Zaolzie.
In 1945, at the end of World War II, all of the former German Silesia was occupied by the Soviet Union, and under the post-war border changes most of it became part of Poland.
