Video encoding guidelines

Vidme can handle almost any video you throw at it. But if you want your videos to look amazing (of course you do), try to encode your videos within these settings for the best results.

Container: MP4

We support almost all possible video containers but we recommend MP4.

Audio codec: AAC-LC

  • Stereo or Stereo + 5.1
  • 96khz or 48khz sample rate

Video codec: H.264

  • Progressive scan (no interlacing)
  • High profile
  • Closed GOP. GOP of half the frame rate.
  • Variable bitrate preferred
  • Chroma subsampling: 4:2:0

Frame rate

We recommend leaving your video's frame rate as it was when the video was recorded. If your video has a frame rate higher than 60 FPS, we'll reduce it to 60 FPS. Avoid using a variable frame rate — always use a constant rate.

Resolution & Bitrate

Resolution Bitrate (kbit/s)
< 720p 2,000 – 5,000
720p 5,000 – 8,000
1080p 8,000 – 12,000

Aspect ratio

Most Vidme players use a 16:9 aspect ratio, though some of our mobile players will take up the full vertical space in portrait orientation.
