There are work utes – you know, the single-cab budget-focused models aimed at tradies specifically – and there are lifestyle utes, those that cost $60,000 to $70,000 that are more often seen with a dude in a suit driving them rather than a bloke in overalls. In fact, we drove those types of utes in our eight ute mega test a while ago, and we've even done an extra-cab lifestyle ute comparison, too.
But this time around we wanted to get down and dirty with a few more affordable models, the workhorses aimed more at coin-conscious consumers who will use their utes as, well, utes first and foremost. A proper Monday to Friday vehicle, not so much a lifestyle weekender, but with a dual-cab body to ensure that there’s space in the back if you need it.

We found the WORLDS QUICKEST Street Driven VE Commodore / G8 in Sydney Australia! This CRAZY sounding UTE (Utility Vehicle) showed up at the Turbosmart 1320Video meet & greet during our recent trip down under! These Holden VE Chassis UTE’s are incredibly popular cars down under, but this one stands out over the rest, running an 8.70 at over 150mph! Powered by a Turbo V8, this machine has much more potential ahead of it as it continues to get dialed in! We were happily surprised to see it show up at Sydney Dragway for Motive DVD’s Encore Night, this Street Machine proved to be a ton of fun!

But if you're willing to pick up some tools to build your own, or have the Canadian Ute team do a full build or installation for you, you can now bringing the Caddy back with the Smyth Performance Truck Kit for the MKIV VW Jetta and Golf.

With no garage or high speed shop equipment he takes off the doors and trunk, marks the cut lines very carefully, ensuring all wiring is clear of the cut lines, then takes the saw to the car. Followed by put all the aluminum together then taking it apart, then put it back together. You will see it is time consuming but absolutely critical to get everything straight, true and square. All your body panels hang on this so it has to be positioned correctly for the body lines and seams to match perfectly.

Holden Commodore
The Holden Commodore is a car manufactured since 1978 by Holden in Australia and, formerly, in New Zealand.
For the original model, Holden replaced the long-serving Kingswood and Premier large cars developed in Australia, with another rear wheel drive (RWD) platform that was, however, based on a smaller European design by Opel, re-engineered for Australian conditions. Subsequent series became larger, culminating with the fourth generation Commodore, fully developed in Australia and based on the GM Zeta platform.
Initially introduced as a single sedan body style, the range expanded in 1979 to include a station wagon. From 1984, Holden began branding the flagship Commodore model as Holden Calais, with the Commodore Berlina introduced in 1984 gaining independent Holden Berlina nomenclature in 1988. Long-wheelbase Statesman/Caprice derivatives and Commodore utility body variants followed in 1990. The third generation architecture spawned the most body styles, with a new Holden utility launched in 2000 (now officially as the Holden Ute), reborn Monaro coupé in 2001, four-door Holden Crewman utility and all-wheel drive (AWD) Holden Adventra crossover in 2003. Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) in 1987 began official modification of high performance variants of the Commodore and its derivatives, under its own nameplate.

We found the WORLDS QUICKEST Street Driven VE Commodore / G8 in Sydney Australia! This CRAZY sounding UTE (Utility Vehicle) showed up at the Turbosmart 1320Video meet & greet during our recent trip down under! These Holden VE Chassis UTE’s are incredibly popular cars down under, but this one stands out over the rest, running an 8.70 at over 150mph! Powered by a Turbo V8, this machine has much more potential ahead of it as it continues to get dialed in! Inexpensive, small pickup trucks used to be everywhere in North America. Datsuns, Toyotas, the Subaru Brat or even the 80’s Volkswagen Caddy based on the Golf, have all pretty much all disappeared. But if you're willing to pick up some tools to build your own, or have the Canadian Ute team do a full build or installation for you, you can now bringing the Caddy back with the Smyth Performance Truck Kit for the MKIV VW Jetta and Golf.

With no garage or high speed shop equipment he takes off the doors and trunk, marks the cut lines very carefully, ensuring all wiring is clear of the cut lines, then takes the saw to the car. Followed by put all the aluminum together then taking it apart, then put it back together. You will see it is time consuming but absolutely critical to get everything straight, true and square. All your body panels hang on this so it has to be positioned correctly for the body lines and seams to match perfectly.
