Sadhguru: When we talk about truth and untruth, generally we are thinking of truth as a verbal truth that we speak; I spoke a truth or I spoke a lie. These verbal truths or verbal untruth is a more moral ethical issue, it is not an existential issue, a social thing and many times you know there is lot of terrorist attacks going around in the world. You had just one, we have had plenty back home, a hall like this is a terrorist paradise, people packed up like this in one place, you know they can have a maximum impact. This is a good place. No? So, when I was coming just now, I met a terrorist, because everything is quiet here he didn’t know whether the people inside or not he’s trapped up, he asked are there people inside? Do you want me to tell him the truth or untruth. (Laughter) You want me to speak the truth or untruth, what kind of people are you! (laughter) So, what is truth, what is untruth it is not in the words that you speak, it is in the way you hold the life within you.
The nature of existence is such that it’s all inclusive you know. You know the ten horrible people in this class who don’t believe in God but when the sun comes up in the morning, you will have ten black spots falling on them. Hmm, believers have such hopes. Now, once sun comes up in the morning it lights up everybody, isn’t it? What nonsense you believe in or what nonsense you disbelieve in, it doesn’t matter, it just lights up everybody; whoever opens his eyes for him there’s light to see. Who you are, what you are, what you thinking, what you doing, are you this or that? It doesn’t discriminate, whether you are a crawling worm or a big human being, it doesn’t discriminate. So, the essence in nature of life is all inclusive, there is no discrimination. This is the truth. If you sit here like that, absolutely all inclusive, you are in touch with truth, if you have become a prejudiced exclusiveness, this is the untruth.
It is not in the words that you speak, it is in the way you are. Truth is not something that you can say or not say, truth is something either you are in touch with it you are not in touch with it. It’s not your doing, if it’s your doing it must be lie, isn’t it? Isn’t it so? If it was your doing or my doing, it must be a lie isn’t it? That which is true is always… It is in the lap of truth that we exist, it is not something that we say or do. Either we can be in touch with it or we can be unaware of it but still it is working; whether we like it or we don’t like it. In the very breath that we take, we are inclusive, isn’t it? Yes, whether we are willing or unwilling, in the very breath that we inhale and exhale, we are all inclusive, isn’t it? If you become exclusive, truly exclusive, you will be dead but even the dead are inclusive, isn’t it so? The dead will so easily merge with the planet. They are also very inclusive. They are alive or suppose to be consciously inclusive. Dead are dead so they are unconscious and they are inclusive.
A litmus test for you whether you are in touch with truth or not is just this; if there is any kind of suffering in you right now, you are not in touch with truth. If you are in touch with truth, there can be no suffering in you, it’s as simple as that. How deep your suffering is shows how far away from truth you are right now. There are many ways to approach this. We have been trying to open up doors in the last few days, whatever we have been doing here, I have been repeatedly saying this; this is not a teaching, this is just a method. Now...

Pontius Pilate famously asked: what is truth? In the twentieth century, the nature of truth became a subject of particular interest to philosophers, but they preferred to ask a slightly different question: what does it mean to say of any particular statement that it is true? What is the difference between these two questions, and how useful is the second of them? Melvyn Bragg discusses these and related questions regarding truth with Simon Blackburn, Jennifer Hornsby, and Crispin Wright. Note, the issue of what truth is, is different from the issue of how we come to know truth. It's quite easy to confuse these two, but one is epistemological, having to do with our tests or criteria for truth, while the other involves the nature of truth itself and not our knowledge of it. There are three classical theories of truth. According to one traditional view, truth is a mirroring or correspondence relation between our beliefs or sentences on the one hand, and external, independent objects on the other. According to another view, truth is a relation of internal coherence, a fitting of beliefs with other beliefs in a system. According to a third view, pragmatism, truth is simply what works or what people will eventually converge on over the long-run. Another kind of view which arose in the 20th century involved a deflationary approach to truth, which tried to sidestep some of the traditional problems associated with both absolutism and relativism. There are other views as well, but no view is without serious difficulties.

Epistemology is the study of knowledge, its scope and limits. And yet this most basic of studies is rarely dealt with today. How do we really ''know''? How do we determine what is really true, rather than that which is just traditionally accepted? What are our tools for validation?
As we began in the very limited universe of our playpen, our primary reliance on learning techniques was empirical: trial and error. As our universe gradually expanded to include our room, our home, our school, and our community, our primary epistemological tools increasingly relied on external guidance, qualified and validated by means of our internal processing. As our universe of interest expands from our community to the world, and ultimately to the cosmos itself, our tools increasingly rely on external guidance rather than trial and error! Qualifying our sources of information becomes increasingly critical. Yet, what tools can we use to qualify our sources of information?

John 18:38
John chapter 18, verse 38 of the Gospel of John, is often referred to as "jesting Pilate" or "Truth? What is truth?", of Latin Quid est veritas?. In it, Pontius Pilate questions Jesus' claim that he is "witness to the truth" (John 18:37).
Following this statement, Pilate proclaims to the masses (lit., "the Jews" referring to the Jewish authorities) that he does not consider Jesus guilty of any crime.

Analysis
The exact intention of Pilate has been subject to debate among scholars, with no firm conclusion. His statement may have been made in jest that the trial was a mockery, or he may have actually intended to reflect on the philosophical position that truth is hard to ascertain. The Greek word rendered as "truth" in English translations is "aletheia", which literally means "unconcealed" and connotes sincerity in addition to factuality and reality.
This verse reflects the Christian tradition of the "guiltlessness of Jesus" in Pilate's Court. The innocence of Jesus is important in the Gospel of John, given that it emphasizes Jesus as the Lamb of God.

"What Is Truth" is a single by American country music artist Johnny Cash released in February 1970. Generally viewed as a protest song, a rarity in country music at the time, the simple criticism of the Vietnam War, and war in general, as well as the stereotypical view of many politically liberal hippies made the song a major crossover hit. The song peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles. It also became Cash's 12th Top 40 single on the Hot 100 chart, peaking at number 19, and his 2nd Top 10 single on the Adult Contemporary chart, peaking at Number 4. It also reached number 1 on the RPM Country Tracks chart in Canada.

It's difficult to think of a more important topic than the nature of truth. Truth is that which agrees with reality. Society no longer cares about truth. It doesn't matter what one regards as "truth", just as long as they are sincere. Truth is subjective, society says, and it's up to each individual to decide for themselves what is right and wrong. On the contrary, we need to remember that anything other than the truth needs to be rejected. When an individual "suppresses the truth in unrighteousness" and comes to the false conclusion "that there is no truth" or "that there are many truths" they will inevitably reject the concept of absolute morals. What "seems" right to one individual may "seem" wrong to the next. According to this logic, to one person child pornography is acceptable, but to another it's a serious offense. So who's right? This is why Jesus said, "Sanctify them by the truth. Your Word is truth. The Bible alone is the standard for 'absolute' or 'objective' truth. The main reason why people reject God's Word as truth is because they do not want anyone telling them how to live their life. Our culture shuns authority and looks down upon biblical values. Many think that if you reject the Bible, you can live however you want. They say, "You can follow the Bible if you think it's right for you, but since I don't think it's right for me, I won't." That view is held by many, but when taken to its logical conclusion it proves disastrous. For example, what if I feel that it's "right for me" to ignore traffic lights? Can it really be right in any sense of the word? Of course not. If something is true because someone thinks it is true, then all sincere statements ever uttered would be true-- even those that weren't correct! If morals are decided by the individual, why not live that way? Why not rob a bank to feed your family or steal a car to get to work on time? Why not base all your decisions on whether or not YOU think something is right or wrong? That would be ridiculous. Jesus said He came into the world to testify to the truth. Don't be wrong when it comes to the truth that Jesus is the only Way to the Father. There is no other name under Heaven, given among men, by which man must be saved." And that's the truth. Sadhguru: When we talk about truth and untruth, generally we are thinking of truth as a verbal truth that we speak; I spoke a truth or I spoke a lie. These verbal truths or verbal untruth is a more moral ethical issue, it is not an existential issue, a social thing and many times you know there is lot of terrorist attacks going around in the world. You had just one, we have had plenty back home, a hall like this is a terrorist paradise, people packed up like this in one place, you know they can have a maximum impact. This is a good place. No? So, when I was coming just now, I met a terrorist, because everything is quiet here he didn’t know whether the people inside or not he’s trapped up, he asked are there people inside? Do you want me to tell him the truth or untruth. (Laughter) You want me to speak the truth or untruth, what kind of people are you! (laughter) So, what is truth, what is untruth it is not in the words that you speak, it is in the way you hold the life within you.
The nature of existence is such that it’s all inclusive you know. You know the ten horrible people in this class who don’t believe in God but when the sun comes up in the morning, you will have ten black spots falling on them. Hmm, believers have such hopes. Now, once sun comes up in the morning it lights up everybody, isn’t it? What nonsense you believe in or what nonsense you disbelieve in, it doesn’t matter, it just lights up everybody; whoever opens his eyes for him there’s light to see. Who you are, what you are, what you thinking, what you doing, are you this or that? It doesn’t discriminate, whether you are a crawling worm or a big human being, it doesn’t discriminate. So, the essence in nature of life is all inclusive, there is no discrimination. This is the truth. If you sit here like that, absolutely all inclusive, you are in touch with truth, if you have become a prejudiced exclusiveness, this is the untruth.
It is not in the words that you speak, it is in the way you are. Truth is not something that you can say or not say, truth is something either you are in touch with it you are not in touch with it. It’s not your doing, if it’s your doing it must be lie, isn’t it? Isn’t it so? If it was your doing or my doing, it must be a lie isn’t it? That which is true is always… It is in the lap of truth that we exist, it is not something that we say or do. Either we can be in touch with it or we can be unaware of it but still it is working; whether we like it or we don’t like it. In the very breath that we take, we are inclusive, isn’t it? Yes, whether we are willing or unwilling, in the very breath that we inhale and exhale, we are all inclusive, isn’t it? If you become exclusive, truly exclusive, you will be dead but even the dead are inclusive, isn’t it so? The dead will so easily merge with the planet. They are also very inclusive. They are alive or suppose to be consciously inclusive. Dead are dead so they are unconscious and they are inclusive.
A litmus test for you whether you are in touch with truth or not is just this; if there is any kind of suffering in you right now, you are not in touch with truth. If you are in touch with truth, there can be no suffering in you, it’s as simple as that. How deep your suffering is shows how far away from truth you are right now. There are many ways to approach this. We have been trying to open up doors in the last few days, whatever we have been doing here, I have been repeatedly saying this; this is not a teaching, this is just a method. Now...

What is the difference between these two questions, and how useful is the second of them? As we began in the very limited universe of our playpen, our primary reliance on learning techniques was empirical: trial and error. As our universe gradually expanded to include our room, our home, our school, and our community, our primary epistemological tools increasingly relied on external guidance, qualified and validated by means of our internal processing. As our universe of interest expands from our community to the world, and ultimately to the cosmos itself, our tools increasingly rely on external guidance rather than trial and error! Qualifying our sources of information becomes increasingly critical. Yet, what tools can we use to qualify our sources of information?

"What is Truth?"
It's difficult to think of a more important topic than the nature of truth. Truth is that which agrees with reality.
Society no longer cares about truth. It doesn't matter what one regards as "truth", just as long as they are sincere. Truth is subjective, society says, and it's up to each individual to decide for themselves what is right and wrong. On the contrary, we need to remember that anything other than the truth needs to be rejected.
When an individual "suppresses the truth in unrighteousness" and comes to the false conclusion "that there is no truth" or "that there are many truths" they will inevitably reject the concept of absolute morals. What "seems" right to one individual may "seem" wrong to the next.
According to this logic, to one person child pornography is acceptable, but to another it's a serious offense. So who's right?
This is why Jesus said, "Sanctify them by the truth. Your Word is truth. The Bible alone is the standard for 'absolute' or 'objective' truth.
The main reason why people reject God's Word as truth is because they do not want anyone telling them how to live their life. Our culture shuns authority and looks down upon biblical values. Many think that if you reject the Bible, you can live however you want. They say, "You can follow the Bible if you think it's right for you, but since I don't think it's right for me, I won't."
That view is held by many, but when taken to its logical conclusion it proves disastrous.
For example, what if I feel that it's "right for me" to ignore traffic lights? Can it really be right in any sense of the word? Of course not. If something is true because someone thinks it is true, then all sincere statements ever uttered would be true-- even those that weren't correct!
If morals are decided by the individual, why not live that way? Why not rob a bank to feed your family or steal a car to get to work on time? Why not base all your decisions on whether or not YOU think something is right or wrong? That would be ridiculous.
Jesus said He came into the world to testify to the truth. Don't be wrong when it comes to the truth that Jesus is the only Way to the Father. There is no other name under Heaven, given among men, by which man must be saved." And that's the truth.

These verbal truths or verbal untruth is a more moral ethical issue, it is not an existential issue, a social thing and many times you know there is lot of terrorist attacks going around in the world. You had just one, we have had plenty back home, a hall like this is a terrorist paradise, people packed up like this in one place, you know they can have a maximum impact. This is a good place. No? So, when I was coming just now, I met a terrorist, because everything is quiet here he didn’t know whether the people inside or not he’s trapped up, he asked are there people inside? Do you want me to tell him the truth or untruth. (Laughter) You want me to speak the truth or untruth, what kind of people are you! (laughter) So, what is truth, what is untruth it is not in the words that you speak, it is in the way you hold the life within you.
The nature of existence is such that it’s all inclusive you know. You know the ten horrible people in this class who don’t believe in God but when the sun comes up in the morning, you will have ten black spots falling on them. Hmm, believers have such hopes. Now, once sun comes up in the morning it lights up everybody, isn’t it? What nonsense you believe in or what nonsense you disbelieve in, it doesn’t matter, it just lights up everybody; whoever opens his eyes for him there’s light to see. Who you are, what you are, what you thinking, what you doing, are you this or that? It doesn’t discriminate, whether you are a crawling worm or a big human being, it doesn’t discriminate. So, the essence in nature of life is all inclusive, there is no discrimination. This is the truth. If you sit here like that, absolutely all inclusive, you are in touch with truth, if you have become a prejudiced exclusiveness, this is the untruth.
It is not in the words that you speak, it is in the way you are. Truth is not something that you can say or not say, truth is something either you are in touch with it you are not in touch with it. It’s not your doing, if it’s your doing it must be lie, isn’t it? Isn’t it so? If it was your doing or my doing, it must be a lie isn’t it? That which is true is always… It is in the lap of truth that we exist, it is not something that we say or do. Either we can be in touch with it or we can be unaware of it but still it is working; whether we like it or we don’t like it. In the very breath that we take, we are inclusive, isn’t it? Yes, whether we are willing or unwilling, in the very breath that we inhale and exhale, we are all inclusive, isn’t it? If you become exclusive, truly exclusive, you will be dead but even the dead are inclusive, isn’t it so? The dead will so easily merge with the planet. They are also very inclusive. They are alive or suppose to be consciously inclusive. Dead are dead so they are unconscious and they are inclusive.
A litmus test for you whether you are in touch with truth or not is just this; if there is any kind of suffering in you right now, you are not in touch with truth. If you are in touch with truth, there can be no suffering in you, it’s as simple as that. How deep your suffering is shows how far away from truth you are right now. There are many ways to approach this. We have been trying to open up doors in the last few days, whatever we have been doing here, I have been repeatedly saying this; this is not a teaching, this is just a method. Now...

As our universe gradually expanded to include our room, our home, our school, and our community, our primary epistemological tools increasingly relied on external guidance, qualified and validated by means of our internal processing. As our universe of interest expands from our community to the world, and ultimately to the cosmos itself, our tools increasingly rely on external guidance rather than trial and error! Qualifying our sources of information becomes increasingly critical. Yet, what tools can we use to qualify our sources of information?

"What is Truth?"
It's difficult to think of a more important topic than the nature of truth. Truth is that which agrees with reality.
Society no longer cares about truth. It doesn't matter what one regards as "truth", just as long as they are sincere. Truth is subjective, society says, and it's up to each individual to decide for themselves what is right and wrong. On the contrary, we need to remember that anything other than the truth needs to be rejected.
When an individual "suppresses the truth in unrighteousness" and comes to the false conclusion "that there is no truth" or "that there are many truths" they will inevitably reject the concept of absolute morals. What "seems" right to one individual may "seem" wrong to the next.
According to this logic, to one person child pornography is acceptable, but to another it's a serious offense. So who's right?
This is why Jesus said, "Sanctify them by the truth. Your Word is truth. The Bible alone is the standard for 'absolute' or 'objective' truth.
The main reason why people reject God's Word as truth is because they do not want anyone telling them how to live their life. Our culture shuns authority and looks down upon biblical values. Many think that if you reject the Bible, you can live however you want. They say, "You can follow the Bible if you think it's right for you, but since I don't think it's right for me, I won't."
That view is held by many, but when taken to its logical conclusion it proves disastrous.
For example, what if I feel that it's "right for me" to ignore traffic lights? Can it really be right in any sense of the word? Of course not. If something is true because someone thinks it is true, then all sincere statements ever uttered would be true-- even those that weren't correct!
If morals are decided by the individual, why not live that way? Why not rob a bank to feed your family or steal a car to get to work on time? Why not base all your decisions on whether or not YOU think something is right or wrong? That would be ridiculous.
Jesus said He came into the world to testify to the truth. Don't be wrong when it comes to the truth that Jesus is the only Way to the Father. There is no other name under Heaven, given among men, by which man must be saved." And that's the truth.

Were you one of those swept up in the clamor about "The Secret" (the movie and / or the book)? Were you convicted by it to make your thoughts more optimistic and focused? How long did that last? A day? A week? Or did you miss the movie, and wonder what you missed as your friends enthusiastically raved about how great it was?
While the movie was based on the Law of Attraction, a well-respected precept of psychology that states "like attracts like," the movie fails to equip the most disciplined among us to make those inspiring changes. Perhaps it would be unfair to expect that much from any movie. But it also is not a fair representation of Law of Attraction. Neither has it been much of a secret. If you didn't know about it, perhaps you haven't been listening.
The movie is more an unnecessary justification for Law of Attraction drawn from metaphysics, paranormal phenomenon, and quantum physics, overlaid with slick marketing techniques, couched in the words of "experts." More disturbing, viewers may come away with the impression that they've been relieved of the responsibility to strive for success -- they need but "put it out to the universe" to get their just desserts. Just as disturbing, those who are beating their heads against walls trying to be a success may interpret that delay as a sign from the universe that it's not meant to be. The Law of Attraction does not give you a pass.

The connection between seeking truth and increased understanding of others was one of the messages shared Sunday night by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at a worldwide Church Educational System (CES) broadcast.
"As you accept the responsibility to seek after truth with an open mind and a humble heart, you will become more tolerant of others, more open to listen, more prepared to understand, more inclined to build up instead of tearing down, and you will be more willing to go where God wants you to go," President Uchtdorf said.
President Uchtdorf also relayed the fundamental Latter-day Saint beliefs (found in the Articles of Faith) in seeking after anything that is "virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy" whatever the source may be, and that God "will yet reveal many great and important things" to His children.
Additionally, President Uchtdorf said that Latter-day Saints are "not asked to blindly accept everything they hear." Rather, members are "encouraged to think and discover truth" for themselves and "to ponder, to search, to evaluate and thereby to come to a personal knowledge of the truth."

I am quite sure the Religious that claim to understand the bible and take all the writing within literally rather then figuratively, will find this video very confronting. The uploading of this video was intended to offer another and in my opinion a more reasonable perspective then that offered by such fanatical religious institutions, designed to control the masses.
BTW, It's not about the real B-days. It's about the fact that such dates were used, it's about the fact that much of the Bible is figurative writings. Everyone knows such B-days are figurative, representative.
What's amazing is that I have to point this out and the only reason I am bothering to do so, is because so many make this same naive limited observation and think they are discrediting all the information provided in this video by pointing it out, when in fact they are actually proving the very point of the entire video, that is, that much of the Bible is meant to be taken figuratively not Literally.

Christian religion uses Dec 25th as the date on which Jesus was born (i.e. Christmas) - Bible or not. I believe that's the point - that the dominant world religions, like Christianity, are based on other myths that predate Christ by over a 1000 years.
The more we understand the history of religion and how the books were written, the less validity religion has.
Seeking truth is not "luciferian". Christians are so sure they are "right". Yet they cannot accept that if they were brought up in Syria they'd feel just as confident about Islam. If born in India, they'd likely be Hindu. It's just societal indoctrination. The need for these delusions would all be fine, but people are still killing each other in the name of bronze-age mythologies.
We're 300 years past the age of Copernicus. Challenging religion does not eliminate the possibility of God or a power that unites us as human beings, but the "God" that has been taught by churches and kings is not truth. It is a man made ideology that was endorsed for political reasons and control. End of comment

And another thing Just because many of you need to "believe" as you were taught and conditioned to "believe", that the bible is to be considered factual and to be taken literally, and someone points out that it is actually figurative writings, does not mean they are say their is no God (Creator of All) It simply means you are misunderstanding and missing the true meaning of the writings.
I realize that many of you want (or need) to believe that such writing are the actual Words of God.
While this may be partially true, it should be understood, they were gods with a small "g" meaning not the Creator of All with a bit "G"
