8. Vodník
The Vodnik creature comes from Czech fairy tales. According to lore, vodníci (the plural of vodník) are water sprites that can be found near bodies of water, like lakes and ponds.
They are typically depicted as green men, dressed like vagrants. They have green skin and long green hair, bulging eyes, and beards. Sometimes vodnici are also said to have gills, webbed hands and feet.
Although they can be helpful and resourceful, vodníci are typically seen as evil creatures who try to cause humans harm. People are advised to be wary of vodníci as they are cunning and tricky. They have been said to lure small girls into the water with ribbons and small trinkets. Furthermore, they like to target inexperienced swimmers or even shape shift to draw people into the water to drown them. They then trap the human souls in a magical jar they keep at the bottom of their watery home.
The nicer sprites are known to help millers with their work, or they simply sit around near the water, smoke their pipes, and even play the violin. How nice, until they change their mind. You should typically avoid these creatures and if you see a strange, green man near your local lake, be sure to steer clear!
7. Bunyip
The bunyip is a creature of Aboriginal origin. It is also referred to as the “kianpraty” and its name means “devil” or “evil spirit.”
Depictions of the creature vary, but it is described by many as looking like a dog with dark fur, flippers, a duck bill, tusks, and a horse’s tail. It is also thought to have scales or feathers depending on who you ask.
According to legends, the bunyip lives in swamps, creeks, and other shallow bodies of water, even wells! They feed on children and livestock who get to close to the water’s edge. They also hunt for women and children at night because of they love the taste of the soft flesh.
Many have been skeptical of the bunyip’s existence as the only potential evidence of bunyips was an unidentified skull discovered along a river in New South Wales, Australia in the mid 1800’s. The skull went on display at the Australian Museum in Sydney, but mysteriously disappeared several days later before further research could be performed.
Currently, researchers believe that other animals are simply being mistaken for the mythical bunyip such as giant otters, or an undiscovered marsupial or seal. In any case, its mythic status continues.
6. The Chupacabra
Next up comes a popular, but fairly recent mythical creature compared to the others. In 1995 in Puerto Rico, farmers were perplexed by the number of livestock being taken at night. Over 150 farm animals were taken between March and August of that year, and eyewitnesses all blamed the chupacabra.
They described the creature as being roughly 3 or 4 feet tall and standing on its hind legs. It had a green, reptilian body, large oval head, and bulging red eyes. It also had fanged teeth, a long tongue, sharp claws, and spines going down its head and back.
The chupacabra got its name from the way it feasts on livestock. The name “chupacabra” is derived from the Spanish words “chupar” meaning “to suck” and “cabra” meaning “goat.”
Reports stated that the victims had no meat missing from them, but instead had three puncture marks on their necks and they were almost completely drained of blood. The farmers suffered such heavy losses that Mayor Jose Soto of Canóvanas, Puerto Rico recruited volunteers and organized weekly parties to find the creature. This allegedly went on for at least a year, but to no avail.
Many believe that the chupacabra has been around much longer than we think. The ancient Mayans had stories about a creature called “camazotz” It was also described as a reptile on its hind legs with two arms and a long snout for sucking blood from animal. Could the chupacabra be more than a horrifying myth?

Mythical creatures have been at the forefront of fiction and our imagination for centuries. Whether they were the creation from rumors and legends, or they were created in the minds of humanity, there has always been some form of truth involved when it comes to mythical creatures. While we might not get to see a real unicorn or listen to a mermaid sing her song on the rocky cliffs of the coast, there are other mythical creatures that were more real than we ever could have imagined. But, thanks to historical documentation, we can see where some of our most popular legends stemmed from. Since science has made great progress in the world of research, we can cross examine legends and science to see where these mythical creatures come from. For example, the sea serpent was most likely to be a giant oarfish. The mythical cyclops creature may have been inspired by an early ancestor of the elephant!

6 More Sad Fallout Creatures (in text form)
6. Centaurs. Centaurs, much like the Super Mutants they often accompany, are the result of Forced Evolutionary Virus. However, instead of simply exposing a human to some form of FEV, Centaurs were created by The Master experimenting with FEV. He tossed humans, cats, dogs, and a multitude of other animals into vats of FEV to see what would happen, with Centaurs being the ungodly creatures birthed from the virus. While the Centaur’s encountered in Fallout largely look the same for time and resource reasons, centaurs would actually look very different, as the different genes of the different animals would combine and interact with FEV in different ways, creating all sorts of lovable monstrosities.
5. Swan. Swan is a Super Mutant Behemoth found in Swan’s Pond in the Commonwealth. Like all Super Mutants, Swan was once a man named Edgar Swan who worked inside The Institute. According to logs found around Swan’s Pond, Edgar Swan stole cigarettes and was sentenced to stay inside his house for 30 days and keep a log of his daily events. By Day 6, his entire body was aching and was suspecting that something had been done to him. By Day 14, he had calmed down, and his muscle mass has more than tripled since the experiment began.
4. Slags. Slags are former soldiers that were around before the Great War. Not having access to a proper vault when the Great War began, they sealed themselves underground, the event would become known as “The Sealing”. After centuries of living underground, they have heavily mutated to the point where they cannot be in the sun without being in intense pain, as their skin and eyes are not used to the Sun. Sometime prior to 2241, the Slags broke the Seal and ventured to the surface, forming the Ghost Farm where they could have a somewhat reliable source of food. They avoid people whenever possible.
3. Endless Walkers. Endless Walkers, at one point, were just your typical ghoul. Although it’s worth mentioning they don’t actually appear in any Fallout game, they were planned creatures for Black Isle Studio’s Fallout 3. In a way, Endless Walkers are just exiled ghouls. They came from the Reservation, a former Nuclear Testing Facility in New Mexico. They are stripped of all possessions, including food, water, and clothes, and sent off to march into the wasteland in what is known as the Endless Walk, hence the name.
2. Spore Carriers. Spore Carriers are humans who have been exposed to the Entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria Mordicana. A Entomopathogenic fungus is a type of fungus that acts like a parasite to insects, and kills or seriously disables them. The fungus was, surprise surprise, created at a Big MT research facility that on researching plant life and its military applications. According to a terminal found in Vault 22, the Spore Carriers are technically dead, as the fungus kills them but reanimates the corpse, like a zombie of sorts.
1. Born Ghouls. Born Ghouls are strange creatures. Like with Endless Walkers, Born Ghouls were to appear in Black Isle Studio’s Fallout 3. They are, however, mentioned in Saint Monica’s Church in Fallout 3’s Rivet City. It is well known that ghouls become sterile after prolonged exposure to radiation, but there are some ghouls, namely the quite hideous Doctor Sebastian, that view ghouls as the next step for humanity, and want to grow the species. Enter Born Ghouls. As expected by the name, Born Ghouls are not ghouls who were once human, they are ghouls who were born as ghouls. But since ghouls can’t give birth or even conceive children, humans are used as a catalyst for Doctor Sebastian’s twisted experiments.

Legendary creature
A legendary creature is an animal described in non-historical stories that sometimes involve the supernatural. Other legendary animals, such as the unicorn, were claimed in accounts of natural history by various scholars of antiquity.
The definitions of legendary and mythological have been debated with no widely agreed upon application. Some legendary creatures have their origin in traditional mythology and were believed to be real creatures, for example dragons, griffins, and unicorns. Others were based on real encounters, originating in garbled accounts of travelers' tales, such as the Vegetable Lamb of Tartary, which supposedly grew tethered to the earth (and was actually a type of fern).
Medieval symbolism of legendary creatures
The origins to many legendary creatures can be found in writings from the Middle Ages. These descriptions emerged as ways to convey important concepts and messages through symbolism and metaphor rather than function as literal interpretations. Medieval accounts of these creatures often appear quite whimsical, but it should be understood that portraying the natural world’s physical accuracy was not likely a relevant priority.

Nuclear fallout
Nuclear fallout, or simply fallout, is the residual radioactive material propelled into the upper atmosphere following a nuclear blast or a nuclear reaction conducted in an unshielded facility, so called because it "falls out" of the sky after the explosion and the shock wave have passed. It commonly refers to the radioactive dust and ash created when a nuclear weapon explodes, but such dust can also originate from a damaged nuclear plant. Fallout may take the form of black rain (rain darkened by particulates).
This radioactive dust, consisting of material either directly vaporized by a nuclear blast or charged by exposure, is a highly dangerous kind of radioactive contamination.
Types of fallout
An air burst (that is, a nuclear detonation far above the surface) can eventually produce worldwide fallout. A ground burst can produce possibly much more severe, local fallout.
Global fallout
After an air burst, fission products, un-fissioned nuclear material, and weapon residues vaporized by the heat of the fireball condense into a fine suspension of small particles 10 nm to 20 µm in diameter. These particles may be quickly drawn up into the stratosphere, particularly if the explosive yield exceeds 10 kt.

Vodník The Vodnik creature comes from Czech fairy tales. According to lore, vodníci (the plural of vodník) are water sprites that can be found near bodies of water, like lakes and ponds. They are typically depicted as green men, dressed like vagrants. They have green skin and long green hair, bulging eyes, and beards. Sometimes vodnici are also said to have gills, webbed hands and feet. Although they can be helpful and resourceful, vodníci are typically seen as evil creatures who try to cause humans harm. People are advised to be wary of vodníci as they are cunning and tricky. They have been said to lure small girls into the water with ribbons and small trinkets. Furthermore, they like to target inexperienced swimmers or even shape shift to draw people into the water to drown them. They then trap the human souls in a magical jar they keep at the bottom of their watery home. The nicer sprites are known to help millers with their work, or they simply sit around near the water, smoke their pipes, and even play the violin. How nice, until they change their mind. You should typically avoid these creatures and if you see a strange, green man near your local lake, be sure to steer clear! 7. Bunyip The bunyip is a creature of Aboriginal origin. It is also referred to as the “kianpraty” and its name means “devil” or “evil spirit.” Depictions of the creature vary, but it is described by many as looking like a dog with dark fur, flippers, a duck bill, tusks, and a horse’s tail. It is also thought to have scales or feathers depending on who you ask. According to legends, the bunyip lives in swamps, creeks, and other shallow bodies of water, even wells! They feed on children and livestock who get to close to the water’s edge. They also hunt for women and children at night because of they love the taste of the soft flesh. Many have been skeptical of the bunyip’s existence as the only potential evidence of bunyips was an unidentified skull discovered along a river in New South Wales, Australia in the mid 1800’s. The skull went on display at the Australian Museum in Sydney, but mysteriously disappeared several days later before further research could be performed. Currently, researchers believe that other animals are simply being mistaken for the mythical bunyip such as giant otters, or an undiscovered marsupial or seal. In any case, its mythic status continues. 6. The Chupacabra Next up comes a popular, but fairly recent mythical creature compared to the others. In 1995 in Puerto Rico, farmers were perplexed by the number of livestock being taken at night. Over 150 farm animals were taken between March and August of that year, and eyewitnesses all blamed the chupacabra. They described the creature as being roughly 3 or 4 feet tall and standing on its hind legs. It had a green, reptilian body, large oval head, and bulging red eyes. It also had fanged teeth, a long tongue, sharp claws, and spines going down its head and back. The chupacabra got its name from the way it feasts on livestock. The name “chupacabra” is derived from the Spanish words “chupar” meaning “to suck” and “cabra” meaning “goat.” Reports stated that the victims had no meat missing from them, but instead had three puncture marks on their necks and they were almost completely drained of blood. The farmers suffered such heavy losses that Mayor Jose Soto of Canóvanas, Puerto Rico recruited volunteers and organized weekly parties to find the creature. This allegedly went on for at least a year, but to no avail. Many believe that the chupacabra has been around much longer than we think. The ancient Mayans had stories about a creature called “camazotz” It was also described as a reptile on its hind legs with two arms and a long snout for sucking blood from animal. Centaurs. Centaurs, much like the Super Mutants they often accompany, are the result of Forced Evolutionary Virus. However, instead of simply exposing a human to some form of FEV, Centaurs were created by The Master experimenting with FEV. He tossed humans, cats, dogs, and a multitude of other animals into vats of FEV to see what would happen, with Centaurs being the ungodly creatures birthed from the virus. While the Centaur’s encountered in Fallout largely look the same for time and resource reasons, centaurs would actually look very different, as the different genes of the different animals would combine and interact with FEV in different ways, creating all sorts of lovable monstrosities. 5. Swan. Swan is a Super Mutant Behemoth found in Swan’s Pond in the Commonwealth. Like all Super Mutants, Swan was once a man named Edgar Swan who worked inside The Institute. According to logs found around Swan’s Pond, Edgar Swan stole cigarettes and was sentenced to stay inside his house for 30 days and keep a log of his daily events. By Day 6, his entire body was aching and was suspecting that something had been done to him. By Day 14, he had calmed down, and his muscle mass has more than tripled since the experiment began. 4. Slags. Slags are former soldiers that were around before the Great War. Not having access to a proper vault when the Great War began, they sealed themselves underground, the event would become known as “The Sealing”. After centuries of living underground, they have heavily mutated to the point where they cannot be in the sun without being in intense pain, as their skin and eyes are not used to the Sun. Sometime prior to 2241, the Slags broke the Seal and ventured to the surface, forming the Ghost Farm where they could have a somewhat reliable source of food. They avoid people whenever possible. 3. Endless Walkers. Endless Walkers, at one point, were just your typical ghoul. Although it’s worth mentioning they don’t actually appear in any Fallout game, they were planned creatures for Black Isle Studio’s Fallout 3. In a way, Endless Walkers are just exiled ghouls. They came from the Reservation, a former Nuclear Testing Facility in New Mexico. They are stripped of all possessions, including food, water, and clothes, and sent off to march into the wasteland in what is known as the Endless Walk, hence the name. 2. Spore Carriers. Spore Carriers are humans who have been exposed to the Entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria Mordicana. A Entomopathogenic fungus is a type of fungus that acts like a parasite to insects, and kills or seriously disables them. The fungus was, surprise surprise, created at a Big MT research facility that on researching plant life and its military applications. According to a terminal found in Vault 22, the Spore Carriers are technically dead, as the fungus kills them but reanimates the corpse, like a zombie of sorts. 1. Born Ghouls. Born Ghouls are strange creatures. Like with Endless Walkers, Born Ghouls were to appear in Black Isle Studio’s Fallout 3. They are, however, mentioned in Saint Monica’s Church in Fallout 3’s Rivet City. It is well known that ghouls become sterile after prolonged exposure to radiation, but there are some ghouls, namely the quite hideous Doctor Sebastian, that view ghouls as the next step for humanity, and want to grow the species. Enter Born Ghouls. As expected by the name, Born Ghouls are not ghouls who were once human, they are ghouls who were born as ghouls. But since ghouls can’t give birth or even conceive children, humans are used as a catalyst for Doctor Sebastian’s twisted experiments.

8. Vodník
The Vodnik creature comes from Czech fairy tales. According to lore, vodníci (the plural of vodník) are water sprites that can be found near bodies of water, like lakes and ponds.
They are typically depicted as green men, dressed like vagrants. They have green skin and long green hair, bulging eyes, and beards. Sometimes vodnici are also said to have gills, webbed hands and feet.
Although they can be helpful and resourceful, vodníci are typically seen as evil creatures who try to cause humans harm. People are advised to be wary of vodníci as they are cunning and tricky. They have been said to lure small girls into the water with ribbons and small trinkets. Furthermore, they like to target inexperienced swimmers or even shape shift to draw people into the water to drown them. They then trap the human souls in a magical jar they keep at the bottom of their watery home.
The nicer sprites are known to help millers with their work, or they simply sit around near the water, smoke their pipes, and even play the violin. How nice, until they change their mind. You should typically avoid these creatures and if you see a strange, green man near your local lake, be sure to steer clear!
7. Bunyip
The bunyip is a creature of Aboriginal origin. It is also referred to as the “kianpraty” and its name means “devil” or “evil spirit.”
Depictions of the creature vary, but it is described by many as looking like a dog with dark fur, flippers, a duck bill, tusks, and a horse’s tail. It is also thought to have scales or feathers depending on who you ask.
According to legends, the bunyip lives in swamps, creeks, and other shallow bodies of water, even wells! They feed on children and livestock who get to close to the water’s edge. They also hunt for women and children at night because of they love the taste of the soft flesh.
Many have been skeptical of the bunyip’s existence as the only potential evidence of bunyips was an unidentified skull discovered along a river in New South Wales, Australia in the mid 1800’s. The skull went on display at the Australian Museum in Sydney, but mysteriously disappeared several days later before further research could be performed.
Currently, researchers believe that other animals are simply being mistaken for the mythical bunyip such as giant otters, or an undiscovered marsupial or seal. In any case, its mythic status continues.
6. The Chupacabra
Next up comes a popular, but fairly recent mythical creature compared to the others. In 1995 in Puerto Rico, farmers were perplexed by the number of livestock being taken at night. Over 150 farm animals were taken between March and August of that year, and eyewitnesses all blamed the chupacabra.
They described the creature as being roughly 3 or 4 feet tall and standing on its hind legs. It had a green, reptilian body, large oval head, and bulging red eyes. It also had fanged teeth, a long tongue, sharp claws, and spines going down its head and back.
The chupacabra got its name from the way it feasts on livestock. The name “chupacabra” is derived from the Spanish words “chupar” meaning “to suck” and “cabra” meaning “goat.”
Reports stated that the victims had no meat missing from them, but instead had three puncture marks on their necks and they were almost completely drained of blood. The farmers suffered such heavy losses that Mayor Jose Soto of Canóvanas, Puerto Rico recruited volunteers and organized weekly parties to find the creature. This allegedly went on for at least a year, but to no avail.
Many believe that the chupacabra has been around much longer than we think. The ancient Mayans had stories about a creature called “camazotz” It was also described as a reptile on its hind legs with two arms and a long snout for sucking blood from animal. Could the chupacabra be more than a horrifying myth?

They are typically depicted as green men, dressed like vagrants. They have green skin and long green hair, bulging eyes, and beards. Sometimes vodnici are also said to have gills, webbed hands and feet.
Although they can be helpful and resourceful, vodníci are typically seen as evil creatures who try to cause humans harm. People are advised to be wary of vodníci as they are cunning and tricky. They have been said to lure small girls into the water with ribbons and small trinkets. Furthermore, they like to target inexperienced swimmers or even shape shift to draw people into the water to drown them. They then trap the human souls in a magical jar they keep at the bottom of their watery home.
The nicer sprites are known to help millers with their work, or they simply sit around near the water, smoke their pipes, and even play the violin. How nice, until they change their mind. You should typically avoid these creatures and if you see a strange, green man near your local lake, be sure to steer clear!
7. Bunyip
The bunyip is a creature of Aboriginal origin. It is also referred to as the “kianpraty” and its name means “devil” or “evil spirit.”
Depictions of the creature vary, but it is described by many as looking like a dog with dark fur, flippers, a duck bill, tusks, and a horse’s tail. It is also thought to have scales or feathers depending on who you ask.
According to legends, the bunyip lives in swamps, creeks, and other shallow bodies of water, even wells! They feed on children and livestock who get to close to the water’s edge. They also hunt for women and children at night because of they love the taste of the soft flesh.
Many have been skeptical of the bunyip’s existence as the only potential evidence of bunyips was an unidentified skull discovered along a river in New South Wales, Australia in the mid 1800’s. The skull went on display at the Australian Museum in Sydney, but mysteriously disappeared several days later before further research could be performed.
Currently, researchers believe that other animals are simply being mistaken for the mythical bunyip such as giant otters, or an undiscovered marsupial or seal. In any case, its mythic status continues.
6. The Chupacabra
Next up comes a popular, but fairly recent mythical creature compared to the others. In 1995 in Puerto Rico, farmers were perplexed by the number of livestock being taken at night. Over 150 farm animals were taken between March and August of that year, and eyewitnesses all blamed the chupacabra.
They described the creature as being roughly 3 or 4 feet tall and standing on its hind legs. It had a green, reptilian body, large oval head, and bulging red eyes. It also had fanged teeth, a long tongue, sharp claws, and spines going down its head and back.
The chupacabra got its name from the way it feasts on livestock. The name “chupacabra” is derived from the Spanish words “chupar” meaning “to suck” and “cabra” meaning “goat.”
Reports stated that the victims had no meat missing from them, but instead had three puncture marks on their necks and they were almost completely drained of blood. The farmers suffered such heavy losses that Mayor Jose Soto of Canóvanas, Puerto Rico recruited volunteers and organized weekly parties to find the creature. This allegedly went on for at least a year, but to no avail.
Many believe that the chupacabra has been around much longer than we think. The ancient Mayans had stories about a creature called “camazotz” It was also described as a reptile on its hind legs with two arms and a long snout for sucking blood from animal. Could the chupacabra be more than a horrifying myth?

6. Centaurs. Centaurs, much like the Super Mutants they often accompany, are the result of Forced Evolutionary Virus. However, instead of simply exposing a human to some form of FEV, Centaurs were created by The Master experimenting with FEV. He tossed humans, cats, dogs, and a multitude of other animals into vats of FEV to see what would happen, with Centaurs being the ungodly creatures birthed from the virus. While the Centaur’s encountered in Fallout largely look the same for time and resource reasons, centaurs would actually look very different, as the different genes of the different animals would combine and interact with FEV in different ways, creating all sorts of lovable monstrosities.
5. Swan. Swan is a Super Mutant Behemoth found in Swan’s Pond in the Commonwealth. Like all Super Mutants, Swan was once a man named Edgar Swan who worked inside The Institute. According to logs found around Swan’s Pond, Edgar Swan stole cigarettes and was sentenced to stay inside his house for 30 days and keep a log of his daily events. By Day 6, his entire body was aching and was suspecting that something had been done to him. By Day 14, he had calmed down, and his muscle mass has more than tripled since the experiment began.
4. Slags. Slags are former soldiers that were around before the Great War. Not having access to a proper vault when the Great War began, they sealed themselves underground, the event would become known as “The Sealing”. After centuries of living underground, they have heavily mutated to the point where they cannot be in the sun without being in intense pain, as their skin and eyes are not used to the Sun. Sometime prior to 2241, the Slags broke the Seal and ventured to the surface, forming the Ghost Farm where they could have a somewhat reliable source of food. They avoid people whenever possible.
3. Endless Walkers. Endless Walkers, at one point, were just your typical ghoul. Although it’s worth mentioning they don’t actually appear in any Fallout game, they were planned creatures for Black Isle Studio’s Fallout 3. In a way, Endless Walkers are just exiled ghouls. They came from the Reservation, a former Nuclear Testing Facility in New Mexico. They are stripped of all possessions, including food, water, and clothes, and sent off to march into the wasteland in what is known as the Endless Walk, hence the name.
2. Spore Carriers. Spore Carriers are humans who have been exposed to the Entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria Mordicana. A Entomopathogenic fungus is a type of fungus that acts like a parasite to insects, and kills or seriously disables them. The fungus was, surprise surprise, created at a Big MT research facility that on researching plant life and its military applications. According to a terminal found in Vault 22, the Spore Carriers are technically dead, as the fungus kills them but reanimates the corpse, like a zombie of sorts.
1. Born Ghouls. Born Ghouls are strange creatures. Like with Endless Walkers, Born Ghouls were to appear in Black Isle Studio’s Fallout 3. They are, however, mentioned in Saint Monica’s Church in Fallout 3’s Rivet City. It is well known that ghouls become sterile after prolonged exposure to radiation, but there are some ghouls, namely the quite hideous Doctor Sebastian, that view ghouls as the next step for humanity, and want to grow the species. Enter Born Ghouls. As expected by the name, Born Ghouls are not ghouls who were once human, they are ghouls who were born as ghouls. But since ghouls can’t give birth or even conceive children, humans are used as a catalyst for Doctor Sebastian’s twisted experiments.
