Trailer: Game of Thrones finale preview

"There's only one war that matters. And it is here."

DB Weiss and David Benioff have revealed season seven's conclusion will run for a record 80 minutes because there are still so many unresolved narratives in play.

The first question on everyone's lips is whether Cersei Lannister will indeed agree to a temporary alliance with Jon Snow and Danaerys Targaryen to fend off the horde of undead marching on The Wall. Fans have been terrified the queen has a cruel trick up her sleeve ever since the finale's trailer revealed a significant meeting will take place.

Given the title of the episode, The Dragon and the Wolf, fans have also whipped themselves into a frenzy over the possibility of Jon and the Mother of Dragons finally admitting their love for one another. And, of course, whether they will learn about their shared ancestry.

This instalment's wildcard will be whether there is any resolution to Sansa and Arya's strange feud, and Littlefinger's meddling ways.

After tonight's episode, there will be just six more chapters left in the Game of Thrones saga. The final season is expected to hit screens in 2018, however it's possible the release date could be pushed back due to weather requirements.

The Dragon and the Wolf is available in Australia on Foxtel from 11am, with an encore screening at 8.30pm.
