Beautiful blue bird days at Crystal Mountain Resort and Stevens Pass. We skied/ snowboarded these in the same week at the end of December/ beginning of January. We spend most of our time discovering bits of powder on the backside of both mountains.

*Crystal Mountain is one of the best in the Northwest, and has the largest skiing acreage in Washington State. Everyone skier and boarder should experience Crystal.
*Steven's Pass is a lot smaller and extremely crowded, but has a great backside that stays relatively un-crowded.

American Bird Conservation (http://www.abcbirds.org) and a coalition of partners are working to reintroduce Western Bluebirds to the San Juan Islands in Washington State. The project is off to a great start with nesting pairs returning to the island. See www.abcbirds.org/newsandreports/stories/081208.html for more details.
Partners on the five-year reintroduction project include American Bird Conservancy, Ecostudies Institute, San Juan Preservation Trust, San Juan Islands Audubon Society, The Nature Conservancy of Washington, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Pacific Coast Joint Venture, and the Department of Defense Fort Lewis Military Installation.
Support from the Disney Wildlife Conservation Fund, Wildlife Forever Fund, Zoo Boise Conservation Fund, Norcliffe Foundation, Horizon Foundation, the Frances V. R. Seebe Charitable Trust, along with numerous private individuals and several ABC members helped launch and continue the reintroduction efforts.

Bluebird
The bluebirds are a group of medium-sized, mostly insectivorous or omnivorous bird in the order of Passerines in the genus Sialia of the thrush family (Turdidae). Bluebirds are one of the few thrush genera in the Americas. They have blue, or blue and rose beige, plumage. Female birds are less brightly colored than males, although color patterns are similar and there is no noticeable difference in size between the two sexes.
Species:
Behavior
Bluebirds are territorial and prefer open grassland with scattered trees. This is similar to the behaviour of many species of woodpecker. Bluebirds can typically produce between two and four broods during the spring and summer (March through August in the Northeastern United States). Males identify potential nest sites and try to attract prospective female mates to those nesting sites with special behaviors that include singing and flapping wings, and then placing some material in a nesting box or cavity. If the female accepts the male and the nesting site, she alone builds the nest and incubates the eggs.

Although quite small (population 90), there are interesting events and places in or near town. Bickleton is home to the states oldest tavern, The Bluebird, and the states oldest rodeo. The next Pioneer Picnic And Rodeo will be the 105th annual. At the picnic and rodeo grounds is one of the west’s oldest carousels. A 1905 Herschell-Spillman. It is set up and used only on rodeo week-end, which is always the second week-end in June. It was purchased from Oaks Park in Sellwood, Oregon in 1929 and moved to Bickleton. Just 11 miles south of town is the Whoop N Holler Ranch and Museum where there are many interesting local antiques and old vehicles. About 17 miles south of town is 4th largest landfill in the country. Owned, by Allied Waste Industries, it provides much needed jobs and capitol for Klickitat County. The landfill gas created by the decomposing waste is used to generate over 8 megawatts of electrical power. A few miles south of town is the area’s first large wind power electrical generating plant. Good food is available at the Market Street Cafe and the Bluebird Inn.

I have been a songwriter since I was 13 years old – longer than I have been a wife, a mom or a person in recovery and longer than any other work I have done.
Songwriting is my passion and where I have found my purpose. I, like most writers, write about what I know and hope to tap into universal truths that touch the hearts and minds of others. Although I’ve written many songs, most are about addiction, recovery, emotional growth, life challenges and spiritual healing.
As a person in long term recovery from addiction, I am interested in support, solutions, treatment and education on this and related topics. My support of treatment and education initiatives should not be misinterpreted as being “against” any one group or industry. Instead, it should be known that I am “Pro Solution” for those who need and want help with addiction problems. I support health and education regarding these issues. I am also a strong believer in personal and corporate responsibility.
I am not an expert in any medical field but instead an artist and writer expressing my personal experience, creativity and compassion.

Elizabeth Edwards is known for her graceful melodic style, her rich lyrics and beautiful vocals but it’s her message of hope and transformation in songs like When Grace Rains, Surrender to Win, and Clean that have garnered her a loyal fan base.
As an award winning singer songwriter Edwards was chosen to participate in the Lilith Fair’s talent search hosted by Bill Graham Presents and Alice Radio 97.3 in San Francisco. She’s opened for the late Dan Fogelberg and other songwriting legends such as Jesse Colin Young. She has worked with comedian Mark Lundholmon several occasions as well as songwriters and musicians such as Richie Supa, Ricky Byrd, Kasim Sulton, and Randi Fishenfeld at Recovery Music events. Most recently Elizabeth performed and spoke at several events around the US during National Recovery Month including the FED UP! Coalition reception at The National Press Club in Washington D.C. and at the rally the following day.
She’s performed at the world famous Bluebird Café in Nashville TN and many other coffeehouses and songwriter haunts. She’s toured the country’s college campuses and was awarded a grant by The State of California Arts Council as an Artist in Residence where she taught songwriting to kids who were working hard to overcome life challenges in order to graduate.

I first met Elizabeth Edwards, an amazing singer and songwriter, at a gala benefit celebrating recovery – fancy hotel, fancy food, fancy clothes and no-bullshit conversation.
We ended up seated next to each other and it was a highlight of the evening!
We talked about everything from recovery, to passion and purpose and love with lots of emphatic nodding and laughter.
I was intrigued by her story of having had a calling when she was young and walking away from it and even resisting it in sobriety. I wanted all the details…especially how she returned to honor it seven years into recovery.
Elizabeth shares all the details of that journey and imparts the wisdom earned by walking the talk for over 27 years. Experience, strength and hope – and inspiration galore!

A Note from Elizabeth:
I have been a songwriter since I was 13 years old – longer than I have been a wife, a mom or a person in recovery and longer than any other work I have done.
Songwriting is my passion and where I have found my purpose. I, like most writers, write about what I know and hope to tap into universal truths that touch the hearts and minds of others. Although I’ve written many songs, most are about addiction, recovery, emotional growth, life challenges and spiritual healing.
As a person in long term recovery from addiction, I am interested in support, solutions, treatment and education on this and related topics. My support of treatment and education initiatives should not be misinterpreted as being “against” any one group or industry. Instead, it should be known that I am “Pro Solution” for those who need and want help with addiction problems. I support health and education regarding these issues. I am also a strong believer in personal and corporate responsibility.
I am not an expert in any medical field but instead an artist and writer expressing my personal experience, creativity and compassion.
