Enjoy this CGI Animated Short film...A boy and his bull companion travel across the arid African landscapes in search of a safe refuge. Within the beauty of surreal landscapes lurks dangers they'll soon have to face.
Arid was created by a team of six during their final year at The Animation School in Cape Town. Arid was the first South African student animation to make it into the official selection at the Annecy Animation Festival in 2016 and is the proud winner of two gold medals at The New York Festivals in 2016.

Arid
A region is arid when it is characterized by a severe lack of available water, to the extent of hindering or preventing the growth and development of plant and animal life. Environments subject to arid climates tend to lack vegetation and are called xeric or desertic. Most "arid" climates surround the equator; these places include most of Africa and parts of South America, Central America and Australia.
Change over time
The distribution of aridity observed at any one point in time is largely the result of the general circulation of the atmosphere. The latter does change significantly over time through climate change. For example temperature increase (by 1.5–2.1 percent) across the Nile Basin over the next 30-40 years could change the region from semi-arid to arid, resulting in a significant reduction in agricultural land. In addition, changes in land use can result in greater demands on soil water and induce a higher degree of aridity. See aridification.

Demetri Martin
Demetri Evan Martin (born May 25, 1973) is an American comedian, actor, artist, musician, writer, and humorist. He is best known for his work as a stand-up comedian, being a contributor on The Daily Show, and his Comedy Central show Important Things with Demetri Martin.
Early life
Martin was born on May 25, 1973 to a Greek American family in New York City, New York, the son of nutritionist Lillian and Greek Orthodox priest Dean C. Martin (now deceased). He grew up in Toms River, New Jersey, and has a younger brother named Spyro.
Martin graduated from Yale University in 1995. During his time there, he wrote a 224-word poem about alcoholism as a project for a fractal geometry class, which became a well known palindromic poem. He was also a member of the Anti-Gravity Society, whose members juggle objects on Sunday evenings on Yale's Old Campus.
Although Martin was accepted into Harvard Law School, he went to New York University School of Law after he received a full scholarship. Martin withdrew from law school before the start of his final year, opting to pursue comedy over finishing his Juris Doctor.

Van der Merwe
Van der Merwe is a common Afrikaans surname, derived from the Dutch van der Merwen. It was brought to South Africa in 1661 by Hollanders in the employ of the Dutch East India Company.Van der Merwe roughly translates to "from the Merwede" in Middle Dutch.
The progenitors of the extended clan are Willem Schalk van der Merwe (born Broek, South Holland) and Elsje Cloete (born Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia). Married in the Cape of Good Hope, they later farmed for a living in Hout Bay and eventually retired to Drakenstein. Some of their descendants include:

Enjoy this CGI Animated Short film...A boy and his bull companion travel across the arid African landscapes in search of a safe refuge. Within the beauty of surreal landscapes lurks dangers they'll soon have to face.
Arid was created by a team of six during their final year at The Animation School in Cape Town. Arid was the first South African student animation to make it into the official selection at the Annecy Animation Festival in 2016 and is the proud winner of two gold medals at The New York Festivals in 2016.

In this webinar, James Urban, FASLA, and Doug Merkler, Soil Resource Scientist, discuss desert and arid regional soils, their differences and similarities to wetter regions and to other urban soils, how impacts may be mitigated, and how those differences may impact long-term plant health and water management. For the purposes of this discussion, arid regions will be defined as areas with less than 10" of rain a year.

Astroneer is developed by System Era Softworks, based in Seattle Washington, with members teleworking from like Toronto and Salt Lake City. System Era came together in 2014 out of a desire to create games that reflect the legacy and future of human space exploration, inspiring a sense of wonder and reverence for a beautiful universe.
