High angle shot of a woman in a black swimming cap doing doggie paddle in a pool. "Ages passed and the dog paddle gradually evolved into a breast stroke." We then see the breast stroke demonstrated. "The search for speed brought the side stroke." Camera follows Kathleen as she demonstrates the side stroke.
"Later, the trudgeon superseded the side stroke." Strange sort of front crawl with a different leg kick is demonstrated. "Further progress occurred when the crawl stroke was discovered. The legs are kept close together, with an up-and-down "thrash", thus lessening resistance to forward movement." Camera follows Kathleen as she crosses the pool doing the front crawl.
"The crawl developed and speed became still greater." She swims across the pool. Various shots of her swimming. "In the same way the double-arm backstroke has developed..." This stroke is demonstrated. "...into the back-crawl. Here the legs work up and down, and do not impede, while the arms are actuated alternately." The back crawl is demonstrated.

A documentary in two parts. In the first part we learn how from the Stone Age until the present day Man has evolved the art of swimming, both as a survival technique and as a cultural pursuit: as evidenced by the Greeks, who enthusiastically pursued it as a recreational activity; or the Romans and the Teutons, who used it as a form of martial training; or the Japanese Samurai who cultivated it as a ceremonial exercise over the centuries. We learn how swimming in Christian-dominated Europe was suppressed before its resurrection during the Enlightenment, whereas the scantily clad, indigenous peoples in other parts of the world were not subject to such moral constraints.
In the second episode, we accompany perfectly trained athletes into the swimming arena. We trace the development of the various swimming styles, ranging from early frog imitations to today's computer-assisted, biomechanically-designed strokes. Or explore the evolution of today's ultra-light full bodyskin suit looking back to the beginnings with the dangerous bulky swimming costumes. We learn why the oldest stroke is also the fastest, we study the many transformations undergone by the breaststroke, and explain why the butterfly did not become accepted in competitive swimming until the 1950s.We study the many, sometime exotic, styles which over the centuries were gradually discarded before the four olympic strokes became established. We visit the various battle lines on which the struggle to gain an extra hundredths of a second is being fought: from the swimmer's muscle-honed body, training philosophy, nutrition to the perfection of the stroke movements and the latest scientific research into improving hydrodynamic streamlining.

Christine Jeffs
Christine Jeffs (born January 29, 1963) is a New Zealand-born director, editor and screenwriter known for directing the New Zealand film Rain (2001), the British motion picture Sylvia (2003), and the American independent film Sunshine Cleaning (2009). Jeffs is also renowned for her work on television commercials.
Jeffs lives in Auckland, NZ with her partner John Toon, who was the cinematographer on all of Jeffs' films.
Education and Career
Jeffs has directed a total of 4 films from 1993-2008, 2 of which she wrote herself. Jeffs began her career by working locally in post-production, most notably as an assistant film editor. Afterwards, Jeffs went on to attend the Australian Film, Television and Radio School, located in Sydney, Australia. Jeffs obtained a diploma in film editing in 1990, after which she held the position of assistant editor on three feature-length films: Ruby and Rata (1990), Crush (1992), and Absent Without Leave (1992).
Stroke (1993)
From her work as an assistant editor, Jeffs wrote, directed and edited her first short film Stroke in 1993, which unexpectedly gained attention from film festivals like Cannes and Sundance. Following her success with Stroke, Jeffs began to receive offers to direct commercials, and is now considered as one of New Zealand's most prominent commercial directors.

If you just started learning this stroke, you might need some advice to make the process a little bit easier. First of all, there are two kicks while swimming butterfly: the first kick occurs during the catch phase and the other one during the finish. Make sure to keep legs together and move both arms at the same time. Second kick is usually performed stronger in order to help arms fly above the water. Second of all, keep in mind that butterfly is the hardest stroke in swimming and requires power along with good flexibility in shoulders. Work on your biceps, triceps, abs, and lower body (squads and jumps) as well as increasing flexibility. This is part 1 of a series of video swimming freestyle video tutorials on how to improve your swimming technique. This video was filmed with a Gopro 4 camera you can find it here: http://amzn.to/2dtDikI I will talk about the different parts of the body while swimming. On this first part I talk about the extremely important movements of the hands while swimming the freestyle stroke, otherwise known as crawl stroke. I give tips about what it should actually physically feel like to swim properly. The best practices and most efficient movements. The tutorial has content about how to improve your stroke, assuming you already know how to, at least, move through the water. These tips and techniques will work best to help you improve dramatically your stroke if you do two things: 1- Focus on one thing at a time 2- Practice until you dominate that thing and move to the next. I will also do another series of videos for the other strokes, including starts and turns. There will also be drills and other fun stuff, so make sure to subscribe! I swam for 15 years in the competitive arena and I hope I can transmit my knowledge as clearly an d simple as youtube allows me to. I plan on doing a couple of these to spread the knowledge I have acquire on swimming. I will do collaborations with people with even more knowledge and experience to do more advanced type videos. Finally, what I am really passionate about is learning new skills. So the point of this channel is to spread the intrinsic joy that all humans share when we learn something new, doesn't matter how insignificant it might appear. "The search for speed brought the side stroke." Camera follows Kathleen as she demonstrates the side stroke.
"Later, the trudgeon superseded the side stroke." Strange sort of front crawl with a different leg kick is demonstrated. "Further progress occurred when the crawl stroke was discovered. The legs are kept close together, with an up-and-down "thrash", thus lessening resistance to forward movement." Camera follows Kathleen as she crosses the pool doing the front crawl.
"The crawl developed and speed became still greater." She swims across the pool. Various shots of her swimming. "In the same way the double-arm backstroke has developed..." A documentary in two parts. In the first part we learn how from the Stone Age until the present day Man has evolved the art of swimming, both as a survival technique and as a cultural pursuit: as evidenced by the Greeks, who enthusiastically pursued it as a recreational activity; or the Romans and the Teutons, who used it as a form of martial training; or the Japanese Samurai who cultivated it as a ceremonial exercise over the centuries. We learn how swimming in Christian-dominated Europe was suppressed before its resurrection during the Enlightenment, whereas the scantily clad, indigenous peoples in other parts of the world were not subject to such moral constraints.
In the second episode, we accompany perfectly trained athletes into the swimming arena. We trace the development of the various swimming styles, ranging from early frog imitations to today's computer-assisted, biomechanically-designed strokes. Or explore the evolution of today's ultra-light full bodyskin suit looking back to the beginnings with the dangerous bulky swimming costumes. We learn why the oldest stroke is also the fastest, we study the many transformations undergone by the breaststroke, and explain why the butterfly did not become accepted in competitive swimming until the 1950s.We study the many, sometime exotic, styles which over the centuries were gradually discarded before the four olympic strokes became established. We visit the various battle lines on which the struggle to gain an extra hundredths of a second is being fought: from the swimmer's muscle-honed body, training philosophy, nutrition to the perfection of the stroke movements and the latest scientific research into improving hydrodynamic streamlining.

This video was presented to the viewer as an online reference and a free example in order to provide a visual explanation of how to swim butterfly. If you just started learning this stroke, you might need some advice to make the process a little bit easier.
First of all, there are two kicks while swimming butterfly: the first kick occurs during the catch phase and the other one during the finish. Make sure to keep legs together and move both arms at the same time. Second kick is usually performed stronger in order to help arms fly above the water.
Second of all, keep in mind that butterfly is the hardest stroke in swimming and requires power along with good flexibility in shoulders. Work on your biceps, triceps, abs, and lower body (squads and jumps) as well as increasing flexibility.
Last but not least, come back to our swimming channel time to time and watch our butterfly swimming videos to improve your technique. Still have trouble learning it? This is part 1 of a series of video swimming freestyle video tutorials on how to improve your swimming technique.

I will talk about the different parts of the body while swimming.
On this first part I talk about the extremely important movements of the hands while swimming the freestyle stroke, otherwise known as crawl stroke. I give tips about what it should actually physically feel like to swim properly. The best practices and most efficient movements. The tutorial has content about how to improve your stroke, assuming you already know how to, at least, move through the water.
These tips and techniques will work best to help you improve dramatically your stroke if you do two things:
1- Focus on one thing at a time
2- Practice until you dominate that thing and move to the next.
I will also do another series of videos for the other strokes, including starts and turns. There will also be drills and other fun stuff, so make sure to subscribe!
I swam for 15 years in the competitive arena and I hope I can transmit my knowledge as clearly an d simple as youtube allows me to. I plan on doing a couple of these to spread the knowledge I have acquire on swimming. I will do collaborations with people with even more knowledge and experience to do more advanced type videos.
Finally, what I am really passionate about is learning new skills. So the point of this channel is to spread the intrinsic joy that all humans share when we learn something new, doesn't matter how insignificant it might appear. I believe improvement makes us feel more alive and thus, if done right, make a better world.

The couple of over seven years welcomed a daughter, Monroe Christine Lewis, on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 4:22 p.m, they announced on social media.
“At 4:22pm today, I grew up. Welcome Monroe Christine Lewis,” Lewis, 46, wrote in a Facebook post.

“We are very excited, but I’m also a little terrified,” Lewis said at the time. “I’m trying to decide if I’m more terrified or excited, but I think it’s normal.”
He also shared that unlike Edward, he wasn’t quite as prepared when it came to practical aspects of impending fatherhood.
“I haven’t read a single thing,” he said. “I will probably just wing it, but Gage is already on book three. That’s kind of how we are. I’m a last-minute kind of guy, so in that final hour, I will probably be speed-reading and just kind of pulling out the highlights, where Gage will already be the expert.”
Just weeks before welcoming their baby girl, Lewis took to Instagram to share his feelings about their growing family.
“Holy s—. We’re having a baby,” Lewis said in the finale of his show in September.
In July, the reality star told PEOPLE that he and his partner had some second thoughts about their soon-to-arrive daughter’s sleep space.
“We decided that we were going to quickly redo the nursery,” he said. “I am waiting for that room to be finished so I can start loading it with everything we need. I’m very organized so for me this is kind of torture, that last-minute stuff.”
After multiple attempts at adoption didn’t pan out for the couple, they decided surrogacy was the best route for them — and luckily, it worked.
“This has been a three or four year process for us,” Lewis told PEOPLE in May. “There were so many obstacles along the way, but there’s a happy ending. I can’t tell you how grateful and appreciative we are.”
“A lot can change in just a 12-month period, and this has just been one of those incredible growth years,” the home designer added in July.

REVISION (23:00): In classical Benedikt's syndrome, there is no contralateral hemiplegia as a defining feature - unlike in Weber's syndrome. However, in practice, when there is Benedikt's syndrome, there is usually damage to surrounding structures - which would cause some degree of contralateral weakness similar to Weber's syndrome. Some sources include contralateral hemiplegia as part of Benedikt's syndrome, but this wasn't the way Benedikt described it (keep in mind he was primarily working with patients with tuberculomas and syphilitic gummas as the brain lesions, as was common in his era). Cardiogenic emboli leads to atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter. Mural thrombus occurs after an Myocardial infarction which forms an emboli in the left ventricular. Stroke may also be due to Valvular causes either prosthetic valve, rheumatic valve, vegetations. If there is a patent foramen ovale a stroke may also occur from a DVT.
Artery to artery emboli can be from plaques located in Aorta and Carotid Artery and are audible on auscultation as a bruit.
Thrombus may also be a cause of stroke that forms in carotid and vertebral artery. They decrease blood flow to the brain. Thrombus in the intracranial arteries, such as circle of willis, may also lead to eventual ischemic stroke. Lacunar infarcts occur in smaller vessels secondary to hypertension. With chronic hypertension develops lipohyalonis and fibrinoid deposition which eventually occludes the artery.
TIA lasts less than 24 hours, but now defined more as whether or not infarction has occurred. TIA also increases the risk of future stroke and is associated with syncope, amnesia and seizures. Must differentiate multiple sclerosis, brain tumor, brain abscess and intracerebral hemorrhage.
RISK FACTORS
Risk factors for stroke are generally the same as MI, Hypertension, Atherosclerosis, Diabetes and obesity. Also hypercoagulable state, amyloid angiopathy. Atrial Fibrillation, MI, Previous TB.
NEUROANATOMY
Anterior Circulation – Begins with internal carotid artery. Then branches anteriorly to Anterior Cerebral Artery and the Middle Cerebral Artery.
Posterior Circulation – Starts with the vertebral artery and gives off branches to the Posterior Inferior Cerebellar Artery (PICA). Combines to form the Basilar Artery, Superior Cerebellar Artery and the Posterior Cerebral Artery (PCA).
STROKE SYNDROMES
Stroke in Internal Carotid Artery is usually due to atherosclerotic plaque, but are generally asymptomatic because of compensation from circle of Willis. However, patient may still experience monocular blindness and a bruit.
Strokes in the anterior cerebral artery (ACA) affect the lower extremity, abulia and urinary incontinence.
Strokes in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) affect the upper limb and face as well as speech, decrease conjugate gaze, homonymous hemianopia.
Lacunar strokes present with pure motor or pure sensory loss, ataxia, clumsy hand.
Vertebral artery strokes are divided as extracranial which is known as the subclavian steal syndrome, and intracranial strokes affect the medullar oblongata.
Anterior Spinal Artery Strokes
Lateral Medullar Syndrome aka Wallenberg Syndrome, PICA syndrome have ipsilateral pain and numbness in the face, diplopia, vertigo, nausea/vomiting and Horner Syndrome. On the contralateral defect in pain and temperature in the body.
Medial Medullar Syndrome is due to stroke in the anterior cerebellar artery. Ipsilateral tongue paralysis due to 12 cranial nerve. Contralateral paralsysi and decrease proprioception due to pyramidal and medial lemniscus.
Basilar artery strokes leads to locked in syndrome and there is no volitional besides moving their eyes.
Strokes affecting the midbrain include CN 3 and so they will have down and out. If there is contralateral hemiplegia is known as weber syndrome. Benedikt Syndrome there is additional gait abnormalities.
Posterior Cerebral Artery strokes have visual problems and homonymous hemianopia with macular sparing.
MANAGEMENT
Start with the airway, breathing, circulation. Then check blood glucose and ABG that might mimic strokes. Non-contrast CT within 25 minutes to rule our hemorrhage, which will require surgery. Then begin thrombolysis or thrombolectomy. Contraindications for thrombolysis include, history of stroke or head trauma, atriovenous malformation, aneurysm, recent surgery, hypertension, hypoglycemia, internal bleeding, coagulopathy. Must be given less than 3 hours. Thrombolectomy only up to internal carotid artery.
Then determine the cause with Doppler ultrasound of carotid or vertebral artery. CT Angiography or MRA looking for thrombus of smaller arteries and distinguish where the lesion or stroke occurred. Transcranial Doppler helps identify in MCA, ACA, PCA strokes.
Cardiac evaluation to look for emboli in the heart with echo, ECG, lipid levels.

However, in practice, when there is Benedikt's syndrome, there is usually damage to surrounding structures - which would cause some degree of contralateral weakness similar to Weber's syndrome. Some sources include contralateral hemiplegia as part of Benedikt's syndrome, but this wasn't the way Benedikt described it (keep in mind he was primarily working with patients with tuberculomas and syphilitic gummas as the brain lesions, as was common in his era). Benedikt didn't describe his syndrome on stroke patients - in which the damage is vascular/ischemic and much more heterogenous in presentation and able to affect other regions to varying degrees.
CLARIFICATION (13:17): MCA stroke causes deviation towards the side of the lesion because it affects the (ipsilateral) frontal eye field which, in turn, interferes with input to the contralateral CN VI and the ipsilateral CN III (via MLF). The result is reduced tone to the contralateral lateral rectus and the ipsilateral medial rectus, resulting in ipsilateral deviation (towards the lesion).
