Singapore (i/ˈsɪŋɡəpɔːr/), officially the Republic of Singapore, and often referred to as the Lion City, the Garden City, and the Red Dot, is a global city in Southeast Asia and the world's only island city-state. It lies one degree (137 km) north of the equator, at the southernmost tip of continental Asia and peninsular Malaysia, with Indonesia's Riau Islands to the south. Singapore's territory consists of the diamond-shaped main island and 62 islets. Since independence, extensive land reclamation has increased its total size by 23% (130 km2), and its greening policy has covered the densely populated island with tropical flora, parks and gardens.
The islands were settled from the second century AD by a series of local empires. In 1819, Sir Stamford Raffles founded modern Singapore as a trading post of the East India Company; after the company collapsed, the islands were ceded to Britain and became part of its Straits Settlements in 1826. During World War II, Singapore was occupied by Japan. It gained independence from Britain in 1963, by uniting with other former British territories to form Malaysia, but was expelled two years later over ideological differences. After early years of turbulence, and despite lacking natural resources and a hinterland, the nation developed rapidly as an Asian tiger economy, based on external trade and its human capital.
Kingdom of Desire is the eighth studio album by Toto, released in 1992. Guitarist Steve Lukather assumed sole lead vocal duties, as their previous lead singer, Jean-Michel Byron, was sacked following the Past To Present tour. Drummer Jeff Porcaro died shortly after the making of the album; he was replaced by British drummer Simon Phillips. The album was mixed by Bob Clearmountain.
All songs written by Toto except where noted.
The discography of Keke Palmer, an American R&B singer-songwriter, consists of one studio album, one extended play, three mixtapes and seven singles. In 2005, Palmer signed a record deal with Atlantic Records. Palmer released her debut album So Uncool on September 18, 2007. The album failed to chart on the US Billboard 200, but did chart at number 85 on the R&B chart. The album was preceded by the lead single "Keep It Movin'". In 2010, Palmer was signed by the Chairman of Interscope Records, Jimmy Iovine, and began working on an album.
In January 2011, Palmer released her first mixtape Awaken. The mixtape was officially released on January 10, 2011, for downloads on mixtape-downloading websites. The first and only single released from the mixtape was "The One You Call". A music video was also released for the song. In July 2012, Palmer released the single "You Got Me" featuring Kevin McCall. The video for the single was released on July 11, 2012. Palmer released a self-titled mixtape Keke Palmer on October 1, 2012. It includes her new singles "You Got Me" & "Dance Alone" which have already been released. On May 16, 2013, Keke Palmer released a video showing her recording and performing a cover of Alicia Keys song "If I Ain't Got You".
New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.
The Straits Times is an English-language daily broadsheet newspaper based in Singapore currently owned by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH). It is the country's highest-selling paper, with a current Sunday Times circulation of nearly 365,800.
Originally established on 15 July 1845 as the The Straits Times and Singapore Journal of Commerce, in the early days of British colonial rule, and may be considered the successor to various other newspapers during the time such as the Singapore Chronicle. After Singapore became independent from Malaysia on 9 August 1965, the paper became more focused on the island leading to the creation of the New Straits Times for Malaysian readers.
SPH also publishes two other English-language dailies; the broadsheet The Business Times and The New Paper tabloid. The Straits Times is a member of the Asia News Network.
The Straits Times was started by an Armenian, Catchick Moses. Moses's friend, Martyrose Apcar, had intended to start a local paper, but met with financial difficulties. To fulfil his friend's dream, Moses took over and appointed Robert Carr Woods as editor. On 15 July 1845, The Straits Times was launched as an eight-page weekly, published at 7 Commercial Square using a hand-operated press. The subscription fee then was Sp.$1.75 per month. In September 1846, he sold the paper to Robert Woods because the press proved unprofitable to run.

Learn what is the best time of year to visit in this travel video. Tip: If you don't like rain, avoid November through January, which is monsoon season. Given how close to the Equator the island of Singapore is, it’s going to be pretty hot no matter what time of year you visit. Fortunately, air conditioning is very common in Singapore, and the locals won’t think less of you for taking advantage of it–they do too. You should expect it to rain every day regardless of when you visit, but usually only in brief showers. The most rain will fall during the monsoon season, November through January. One of the greatest challenges in local director Jack Neo's upcoming movie Long Long Time Ago - besides the epic flood scenes - is that the cast had to speak authentic Hokkien. Since the dialect was spoken differently back in the kampung days, the actors were tasked to speak it all the time - even offscren. Catch this and more on www.razortv.com.sg

How different are the interpretations of the word Love in our multi-cultural society? How much do we know about LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender)? In a 2007 article by AFP, Ho Peng Kee, Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs said that Singapore by and large remains as a conservative society. Today, we ask Singaporeans what is their take on the definition of Love, the understanding of LGBTs and find out if our society is any different from four years ago. This episode of The Street, our host - Charmaine, hits the streets and joins the crowd at Pink Dot 2011 to find out what Singaporeans think of the freedom to love. Dear Singaporeans, Media Information Imported from China Could Mislead You. I highly recommend that you take the time to watch this video and decide on your own, using your own power of discretion to determine the truth. Since the start of the brutal persecution of Falun Gong in China on July 1999, the Chinese Communist Party has waged a propaganda war against Falun Gong by disseminating false information and hate propaganda all over the world. The Singapore media has played a major role in helping the CCP disseminate unverified media reports from Chinese state-own newspapers and television news to the Singapore public and these have resulted in negative impact here in Singapore. Please Find out the Truth about Falun Gong Before Forming Your Conclusions. --- My Blog : http://thet...

https://www.expedia.com/Singapore.d180027.Destination-Travel-Guides Small and heavily populated, Singapore is an easy place to explore; nothing in the city is more than an hour from the business district. Thanks to modern construction and outstanding architecture, Singapore is rapidly becoming a powerhouse trade city, but it maintains ties to its Asian roots through traditional temples and many cultural hotspots, like Little India and Kampong Glam. Your Singapore tour must include the Botanical Gardens and Orchid Gardens, both beautiful and notable places to visit. If you’re a fan of exotic animals, stop by the Singapore Zoo and check in with its 300-plus species that take up residence there. PLAN YOUR SINGAPORE VACATION The main island of Singapore is shaped like a flattened diamond, 42 km (26 miles) east to west and 23 km (14 miles) north to south. Near the northern peak is the causeway leading to West Malaysia—Kuala Lumpur is less than four hours away by car. It is at the southern foot where you will find most of the city-state’s action, with its gleaming office towers, working docks, and futuristic "supertrees," which are solar-powered and serve as vertical gardens. Offshore are Sentosa and over 60 smaller islands, most uninhabited, that serve as bases for oil refining or as playgrounds and beach escapes from the city. To the east is Changi International Airport, connected to the city by metro, bus, and a tree-lined parkway. Of the island's total land area, more than half ...

Travel video about destination Singapore. Singapore is a city of gardens and the heart of South East Asia. Its history began in 1819 with Thomas Stamford Raffles, a young official who worked for the British East India Company. Raffles estimated that the natural harbor was perfect for trading ships, so he bought the land from the Sultan of Johor and founded a trading settlement. As a free port, Singapore attracted trading ships from all over the world and today, 4 million people live here on an area that covers 640 square kilometres. In June each year, there is an exciting boat race in Marina Bay known as the Dragon Boat Race, that features magnificently painted dragon boats with hand-carved heads and tails accompanied by the sound of frenetic drumbeats. Singapore gets a lot of business travelers, s...

Our 3-minute video will give you all you need to know about the upcoming Budget, which will be presented by Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat on Feb 20.

Drawing attention to a high dropout rate in upper primary schools, Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam today said schools are facing the “biggest crisis” in India. Delivering the first lecture of government think-tank Niti Aayog’s ‘Transforming India’ initiative, he said the world’s second-most populous country also has the “biggest gap” in talent at the top and unfulfilled potential at bottom. Speaking on the need for social mobility, Shanmugaratnam said experiments have shown that starting as early as possible in a child’s life cycle helps. Cebu Pacific Air low-cost flying experience from Manila to Singapore, onboard the Airbus A330-300 aircraft in mono-class configuration. The flight departs from Terminal 3 of Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport and was delayed due to the late arrival of the operating aircraft, RP-C3346. Contemporary pop hits were played during the boarding process, making it a very welcoming ambience onboard. The flight itself is quite smooth even if the seatbelt sign is lit up a few times. The Cebu Pacific Air cabin crew are polite and cheerful. My pre-ordered meal didn't disappoint in taste though the portion of rice seems overwhelming! Views during the take-off and landing are also wonderful. It has been a very pleasurable flight with Cebu Pacific Air. Thank you very much, dear supporters, for 2...

Filmed on Nikon D5500 and Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 lens. Once we arrived in Singapore from our Silkair flight, we decided to go to the Private Room to enjoy some dinner and champagne. When we got there, we realized we were the only ones in the lounge so we had lots of attention, and got to really try out the menu. The food in the Private Room is always beautiful presented. I actually think Cathay Pacific The Pier has a better restaurant. Nevertheless, free dinner and champagne is always good. We returned the next morning for breakfast which tasted much better compared to the dinner menu. Either way, we were excited to be onboard this 5 hour journey to Beijing. Since it was a day time flight and less than 9 hours, we did not receive the beautiful and luxurious Salvatore Ferrigamo amenity kit. I a...

9 July 2015 The HEAD Foundation Singapore Presented by: Mr Tan Tarn How Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Policy Studies, National University of Singapore Singapore has performed spectacularly well in international rankings of education systems such as PISA and TIMMS. Its students have also triumphed in international competitions in creativity, literature and law. But the philosophy driving these remarkable successes has wrought a great cost to children and parents. Mr Tan Tarn How will argue for a major re-orientation in the way Singapore runs its schools, so as to establish a more rounded and humanity-based measure of educational achievement. About The HEAD Foundation The HEAD Foundation (THF) is a Singapore-based think tank devoted to the research, policy influence, and effective...
