A motor road overpass in Luhansk region was repaired by UNDP with financial support from the government of Japan. The overpass is an important transport and logistical artery connecting the three largest cities in the government-controlled part of Luhansk Oblast: Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, and Rubizhne.
The fighting in the Donbas has complicated methods for diagnosis and procurement of antiretroviral medicine. The Ukrainian government is thus far unable to provide sufficient treatment options, leaving responsibility for procurement in the hands of international actors. In Mariupol, testing and treatments for HIV and tuberculosis are provided free of cost, thanks to drug procurement programs led by the UNDP and others. UNDP provides grants to regional non-governmental organizations to monitor supply and distribution of drugs procured with support of UNDP at the central level. UNDP supported the development of a tailor-made course for judges focused on respect of human rights in criminal proceedings. It was introduced at the National School of Judges of Ukraine in July 2017. It’s expected that this new tool could contribute to efficient human rights protection and decrease of cases of illegal detention and torture.

Officials from local and central government, development experts, education professionals and representatives from UN agencies gathered on July 28 at the Luhansk Regional Development Strategy Forum in Kyiv to chart a new course of development for Luhansk Oblast, using best international practice and expertise.
