A motor road overpass in Luhansk region was repaired by UNDP with financial support from the government of Japan. The overpass is an important transport and logistical artery connecting the three largest cities in the government-controlled part of Luhansk Oblast: Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, and Rubizhne.

The fighting in the Donbas has complicated methods for diagnosis and procurement of antiretroviral medicine. The Ukrainian government is thus far unable to provide sufficient treatment options, leaving responsibility for procurement in the hands of international actors. In Mariupol, testing and treatments for HIV and tuberculosis are provided free of cost, thanks to drug procurement programs led by the UNDP and others. UNDP provides grants to regional non-governmental organizations to monitor supply and distribution of drugs procured with support of UNDP at the central level. UNDP will grant only one organization per region. UNDP will provide a methodology and tools of the monitoring after signing the grant agreement. Deadline for accepting bids: August 31, 2017

UNDP in Ukraine, in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the State Institute of Family and Youth Policies, held a strategic session on elaborating programs on civic education for youth. 38 participants from all over Ukraine discussed the concept and format of the future specialized training course on civic education for youth workers.

UNDP supported the development of a tailor-made course for judges focused on respect of human rights in criminal proceedings. It was introduced at the National School of Judges of Ukraine in July 2017. It’s expected that this new tool could contribute to efficient human rights protection and decrease of cases of illegal detention and torture.

UNDP, in partnership with the Molodyia social media festival, has launched a new video contest to encourage internally displaced people and local residents in government-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions to take the initiative and start a business of their own.

Officials from local and central government, development experts, education professionals and representatives from UN agencies gathered on July 28 at the Luhansk Regional Development Strategy Forum in Kyiv to chart a new course of development for Luhansk Oblast, using best international practice and expertise. An updated strategy for the economic and social development of Luhansk Oblast until 2020 was presented at the forum. The event was organized by the United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine.

The Polish government and UNDP in Ukraine, in close cooperation with the Ukrainian government, launched the second phase of a project aimed at supporting businesses by men and women affected by the conflict.

UNDP Ukraine, in partnership with UN Volunteers, hosted a yoga class for 40 people with disabilities and special needs at the Interregional Center of Professional Rehabilitation for People with Disabilities in Kramatorsk.

In 2017, procurement of medicines for Ukraine will be carried out by the United Nations Development Program, the UNICEF Children's Fund and the Crown Agents UK procurement agency. International organizations will purchase medicines in 39 state programs for a total of 5.9 billion UAH.
