Police seize 'firearm' after student brings it to WA school

Published: August 22 2017 - 4:39PM

A teenage student who brought a plastic toy gun to their school near Mandurah has had the 'firearm' confiscated by police.

Police said officers went to Halls Head College about 2:30pm on Tuesday after being told by school administration a student had a firearm.

The officers seized an Air Soft Rifle, a plastic gun that's not capable of being licensed and shoots plastic ball pallets.

The toy rifle was not used to threaten, harm or put students in danger, and it's understood the 15-year-old student from Falcon wanted to show friends the rifle.

Senior-sergeant Steve Thompson from Mandurah police, said the toy, while not a firearm, could have been mistaken for one.

"People can mistake these for other things," Snr-sgt Thompson said.

"The message is, don't bring these things to school."

The 15-year-old is assisting police in the investigation.
