Anderson Cooper looks back on the Emmy Awards: the winners, the fashion and Merritt Wever's acceptance speech.
It appears Jeff Daniels and Merritt Wever are heading West for Netflix. The Emmy-winning duo have been tapped to star in the streaming giant's limited Western series Godless. The series will reportedly be set in 1884 and centers on Daniels' Frank Griffin, a menacing outlaw who is terrorizing the West as he hunts down Jack O'Connell's Roy Goode, his son-like partner-turned-mortal enemy. While Roy hides at Alice Fletcher's ranch, Frank's chase leads him to the quiet town of La Belle — that is mysteriously made up of entirely women. Wever, fresh off AMC's The Walking Dead, will play Mary Agnes, the brash widow of the late mayor of Le Belle, New Mexico, a town where all of the men have died in a mining accident. http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/thr/television/~3/p6yoKxHVV3I/jeff-daniels-merritt-...

The UK has never had much luck with musicals, but this 1945 effort knocks spots off "London Town" which was the ‘big' production the following year. It would certainly have stood more of a chance against the Hollywood prototypes had it been in ‘glorious Technicolor'! As it is, it's a very jolly and enjoyable outing with Michael Rennie playing a Mancunian with a strangely London accent! Margaret Lockwood puts over her songs very gracefully with her voice provided by Maudie Edwards, who herself has a small role in the film. Luckily there's little ‘ham' and everyone carries off their parts with panache. The script is peppered with names of well-known Music Hall artists of the day, but only in reference. The songs specially written for the film are not up to much, but the standards (including...

"Q Planes" (1939) released in the United States by Columbia Pictures as "Clouds Over Europe", is a British spy film directed by Tim Whelan and Arthur B. Woods, starring Ralph Richardson, Laurence Olivier and Valerie Hobson. The film was produced by Irving Asher with Alexander Korda as executive producer. The name "Q Planes" may have been derived from the British "Q-ships" that were used as spy and armed merchant vessels in the First World War. The film was helmed by American director Tim Whelan (Sidewalks of London (1938) and later, in 1940, co-director of The Thief of Bagdad) who was then in Britain working for Korda at Denham Studios. "Q Planes" (or in its American guise, "Clouds Over Europe") mixes the genres of spy thriller and comedy romance, and was intended to be a star vehicle for...
