Took this like-new older bike for a spin the other day, and it's not quite like the R6 :D
POV - FLYING - Watch in HD!
This is by far the hardest flying video I've had to make.
It was a very difficult story to tell about a pivotal flight from my more than 15 years of VFR flying experience. Luckily I had 2 GoPros along for the ride.
I tried to tell the story in a thorough yet engaging way; thus, it was the most work I've put into editing one of these; (~20 hours!) so I hope you enjoy it!
I am sharing so that others can learn from my close call, and avoid falling into the trap of "get-home-itis".
How did a safe and conscientious pilot such as myself get into this situation?
This "should have" been a routine flight, but the lesson here is that there is no such thing as a "routine flight".
Many variables contributed to the chain of events that lead to this flight going the way it did.
I try to explore them all and share the lessons I learned in doing so.
Thankfully, the outcome was good.
This flight inspired me to finally start IFR training which I'd been considering doing for years.
I still plan to fly privately for fun, and don't intend to do much "actual" IFR flying...
(I'll do my best to maintain IFR currency and practice, but I won't be shooting approaches to minimums on a regular basis).
DISCLAIMER: I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share.Feed back is invited; however, please keep it positive

Here is a video of my test ride of the Honda VFR 800 F (known as the Honda Interceptor in the USA). I rode this motorcycle for 45 minutes. It's pretty hard, maybe even impossible, to evaluate comprehensively a motorcycle in such a short time. So, what I am sharing here are just my first impressions.
Specifications in brief:
- VTEC DOHC 90° V4 engine, 782 cc, water cooled
- 106 hp @ 10,250 rpm, 75,1 nm @ 8,500 rpm
- Twin-spare aluminum frame
- 239 kg (527 lb) with all operating consumable liquids
- 6-speed gearbox, Tokico brakes with ABS, Traction Control
- 789-809 mm (31-31.8 in) adjustable seat height
- 21.5 l (5.68 US Gal) fuel tank
- 12,000 km (7,500 mi) or 12-month maintenance interval
- 12,599 euros (in France), VAT included
The motorcycle of my test ride hadn't any optional features. All come as standard.
In the USA, only the DLX version of the Interceptor includes all these features.

Honda VF and VFR
The Honda VF and VFR series is a range of motorcycles first introduced in 1982 by Honda featuring V4 engines (hence the "VF" prefix).
History
In 1969 Honda revealed the CB750 superbike, establishing the template for the Universal Japanese Motorcycle with a range of transverse inline-fours. Relishing technological innovation, Honda unexpectedly moved on to adopt the V4 ("VF") configuration. However, some of the early VF models suffered mechanical problems, mainly as a result of poor quality camshafts (the "chocolate cams"). Honda, alarmed that they were losing their hard-won reputation for reliability, moved to introduce the VFR750 motorcycles featuring gear-driven ohc cams and a very high build quality. The first three or four iterations of VFR motorcycles re-established Honda's reputation for quality, and the motorcycles received almost universal praise from journalists and riders alike.
The VFR was originally a 750 cc, but became an 800 cc in due course. New models featured technological innovation, such as a single-sided swingarm, linked braking, ABS, and VTEC. The VFR1200 became the first motorcycle to feature a dual-clutch transmission. Not all of these "innovations" proved popular with riders, who often preferred the simple robustness of the earlier models.

Flying VFR into IMC - a top KILLER of pilots - My close call!
POV - FLYING - Watch in HD! This is by far the hardest flying video I've had to make. It was a very difficult story to tell about a pivotal flight from my more than 15 years of VFR flying experience. Luckily I had 2 GoPros along for the ride. I tried to tell the story in a thorough yet engaging way; thus, it was the most work I've put into editing one of these; (~20 hours!) so I hope you enjoy it! I am sharing so that others can learn from my close call, and avoid falling into the trap of "get-home-itis". How did a safe and conscientious pilot such as myself get into this situation? Test Riding the Honda VFR 800 F / Interceptor
Here is a video of my test ride of the Honda VFR 800 F (known as the Honda Interceptor in the USA). I rode this motorcycle for 45 minutes. It's pretty hard, maybe even impossible, to evaluate comprehensively a motorcycle in such a short time. So, what I am sharing here are just my first impressions. Specifications in brief: - VTEC DOHC 90° V4 engine, 782 cc, water cooled - 106 hp @ 10,250 rpm, 75,1 nm @ 8,500 rpm - Twin-spare aluminum frame - 239 kg (527 lb) with all operating consumable liquids - 6-speed gearbox, Tokico brakes with ABS, Traction Control - 789-809 mm (31-31.8 in) adjustable seat height - 21.5 l (5.68 US Gal) fuel tank - 12,000 km (7,500 mi) or 12-month maintenance interval - 12,599 euros (in France), VAT included The motorcycle of my test ride hadn't any option...

This is by far the hardest flying video I've had to make.
It was a very difficult story to tell about a pivotal flight from my more than 15 years of VFR flying experience. Luckily I had 2 GoPros along for the ride.
I tried to tell the story in a thorough yet engaging way; thus, it was the most work I've put into editing one of these; (~20 hours!) so I hope you enjoy it!
I am sharing so that others can learn from my close call, and avoid falling into the trap of "get-home-itis".
How did a safe and conscientious pilot such as myself get into this situation?
This "should have" been a routine flight, but the lesson here is that there is no such thing as a "routine flight".
Many variables contributed to the chain of events that lead to this flight going the way it did.
I try to explore them all and share the lessons I learned in doing so.
Thankfully, the outcome was good.
This flight inspired me to finally start IFR training which I'd been considering doing for years.
I still plan to fly privately for fun, and don't intend to do much "actual" IFR flying...
(I'll do my best to maintain IFR currency and practice, but I won't be shooting approaches to minimums on a regular basis).
DISCLAIMER: I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share.Feed back is invited; however, please keep it positive

Doom VFR really shouldn't be a thing, but virtual reality early adopters can be glad that it is. Here's the issue. Doom is a very fast-moving first-person shooter, but first-person VR experiences tend to fall apart when the pace is too quick. Your brain goes haywire as it tries to reconcile your motionless body IRL with your sprinting virtual self. Motion sickness often follows. ....
