Welcome To My Blog

Thanks for checking the blog out... Hope it offers something a bit different every now & again. Though I come from a pseudo - Mod background (Soul & Ska in particular), I have a diverse taste in music & hope my varied posts will reflect this.

Cheers Skamanc .... I'm not after your undying gratitude, but please leave your thoughts, comments & opinions on the posts & content. I regularly up- & download material, plus buy and trade items. As such, if I have inadvertently "trodden on anyone's toes" in posting anything then please let me know & accept my apologies. Also please support the artists involved & remember that the blog is merely a pointer toward these various downloads, which are stored elsewhere. Legally, any downloads should not be retained for more than a week. So now I've told you the legal bit !

TRAFFIC : Live @ Fillmore East, 18/11/70.

This is a well known Traffic bootleg, recorded live @ the Fillmore East, New York City, on November the 11th 1970. The classic Winwood, Capaldi & Wood lineup was augmented by ex Family & Blind Faith bassist Ric Grech. More great Traffic files to follow soon...

TRAFFIC : John Barleycorn Must Die (1970)

A great return to form by the reunited Winwood / Wood / Capaldi line up, released in 1970. This had originally been planned as a solo album by Winwood, though the presence of his former bandmates on several sessions led to a reunion and full scale touring.

TRAFFIC : Last Exit (1969)

Traffic certainly encountered the "difficult 3rd abum syndrome" with this rather patchy 1969 release. A compilation of studio & live material this has its moments, though the release of "John Barleycorn Must Die" the followuing year saw them back to their best. Download to follow...

TRAFFIC : Traffic (1968)

MP3 rip from a mono copy of the 1968 2nd album. Top class stuff here, with the highlight (for me) being the classic "40,000 Headmen". Download, enjoy & leave a comment or two. More Traffic on the way...

TRAFFIC : Mr Fantasy (1967)

Great to be back & able to blog again... As mentioned recently while posting Steve Winwood's first recordings, I was intending to post some Traffic material, and here's their debut album, Mr Fantasy, from 1967. (This download is an mp3 of  a Japanese released remaster).

Excellent outfit, consisting of Winwood, drummer / lyricist Jim Capaldi, guitarist Dave Mason & flautist / sax player Chris Wood. A great mixture of styles and influences, including free form jazz, rock, psychedelic pop & English folk, this outfit really made Winwood's name, especially in the States.

Further Traffic to follow, including more abums plus live recordings.

For Liam-Ska - top man !!

Dedicated to the late Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood & Dave Mason.

BOLLOCKS INNIT ???

Still no broadband @ home & no resolution in sight.

I'm still plodding down to the library every day or so though not able to post new download links as yet.

Hoping to be back asap -  many thanks for the numerous e-mails of support I've received. I'm glad the blog is still ticking over & attracting traffic despite the lack of new posts.

Hope to see you all soon, Skamanc.

Normal Service WILL be resumed... soon(ish) ???

Sorry folks - still no Broadband access as the bitch of a Mrs is still in dispute with Virgin over the unpaid phone bill.

Hoping to be back on asap - am typing this in the local library as I managed to remember my URL for the blog.

No HDD full of sounds here regrettably so no new posts for now, but hoping to be back posting soon.

SPENCER DAVIS GROUP : Autumn '66 (1966)

3rd & final album from the original line up, following which Steve Winwood formed Traffic with Chris Wood, Jim Capaldi & Dave Mason. (Traffic to follow soon...)

A great record this & one I've loved since picking it up as a bargain from a Car Boot sale in 1986.

Download it, enjoy & leave a comment or two. Thanks. PS New material always wanted & is more than welcome.

SKA'S THE LIMIT - 40 Years Of Island Records

Picked up a mint promo / advance copy of this excellent compilation this morning - a Car Boot bargain at 50 pence ! Titled "Ska's The Limit", this went on to become Volume 1 (1959 - 1964) of the Island Records 40th Anniversary Collection.

Artists include Laurel Aitken, Derrick Morgan, Jimmy Cliff, Marley, Millie Small, Don Drummond, The Maytals & Justin Hinds.

For SK of Sussex...

SPENCER DAVIS GROUP : The Second Album (1966)

The second (and again, imaginatively titled) long player from the Davis group, now a number 1 chart act ("Keep On Running").

THE STRANGLERS : Nice 'n' Sleazy (Battersea 1978) & L'Etait Chorus (Paris '79)

DVD audio rips from two Stranglers shows : Battersea Park 16/9/78 and Paris 1979. The Battersea gig saw them accompanied on "Nice n Sleazy" by strippers, to the consternation of the GLC !! Many thanks to Stew.

Battersea tracks (1-8) = Intro, (Get a) Grip (On Yourself), Go Buddy Go, Peaches, hanging Around, Curfew, Do You Wanna / Death And Night And Blood (Yukio), Nice n Sleazy.

Paris Tracks
(9-13) = 5 Minutes, Shah Shah A Go Go, Ice, Down In The Sewer, Hanging Around.

SPENCER DAVIS GROUP : Their First LP (1965)

Welcome to July - thankfully another month closer to Winter, as the heat & pollen is doing me in !! Last night I finally got round to watching a music doc that I sky plussed last week - "Steve Winwood - English Soul". Excellent career biopic with some excellent archive clips going back to the start of Winwood's career as a teenage prodigy with the Spencer Davis Group. Here then is their debut album - what an imaginative title !!

I actually got into Traffic first, though was lucky enough to pick up a mint vinyl copy of the "Autumn '66" album (post to follow) for 50p at a Car Boot Sale on holiday in 1986.

Over the next few days I plan to post the rest of Winwood's output with the Davis group as well as some Traffic material to follow.
