Sydney-based Shibori was founded in 2006 by Pepa Martin and Karen Davis. A boutique textile agency, it is renowned for pushing the boundaries of shibori, the ancient Japanese craft of fabric dyeing. Martin and Davis explore these techniques using contemporary fabrics, adding a modern design element. Their work has been embraced by some of Australia’s top fashion and interior designers, and their hand-dyed leathers, commercial fabrics and wallpapers have been sold all over the world.
Shibori also has a range of commercial and upholstery fabrics produced by textile company Sparkk, and a wallpaper range by Milton & King. They have collaborated on a collection of prints with interior design company Designer Boys, and on projects including a full-scale dip-dyed hot air balloon, fabric-inlayed surf boards by McTavish and Sibella Court, and a homewares range with Lee Mathews.
