Brisbane traffic: Two crashes turn Bruce Highway into 20km car park

Two separate crashes have seen the southbound side of the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane transformed into a 20-kilometre car park during Sunday afternoon.

Australian Traffic Network reporter Olympia Kwitowski said it all started with a crash in Beerburrum in the morning, which created 20 kilometres of southbound congestion back to Palmview into the afternoon.

To add to the woes of frustrated motorists, a second crash near the exit for Donnybrook Road about 3pm brought traffic to a standstill.

Southbound lanes were blocked for more than an hour before the crash was cleared. However, 20 kilometres of southbound delays remained at 5.30pm, with congestion stretching from Beerburrum to Bells Creek.

There were also 10-kilometre delays on the Steve Irwin Way from Beerburrum, through the Glass House Mountains to Beerwah.

"The Bruce Highway just can't catch a break," Ms Kwitowski said.
