The National Mall is a national park in downtown Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States. The National Park Service (NPS) administers the National Mall, which is part of its National Mall and Memorial Parks unit. The term National Mall commonly includes areas that are officially part of West Potomac Park and Constitution Gardens to the west, and often is taken to refer to the entire area between the Lincoln Memorial and the United States Capitol, with the Washington Monument providing a division slightly west of the center. The National Mall receives approximately 24 million visitors each year.
In his 1791 plan for the future city of Washington, D.C., Pierre (Peter) Charles L'Enfant envisioned a garden-lined "grand avenue" approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) in length and 400 feet (120 m) wide, in an area that would lie between the Capitol building and an equestrian statue of George Washington to be placed directly south of the White House (see L'Enfant Plan). The National Mall occupies the site of this planned "grand avenue", which was never constructed. The Washington Monument stands near the planned site of its namesake's equestrian statue. Mathew Carey's 1802 map is reported to be the first to name the area west of the United States Capitol as the "Mall".
Mall /mɔːl//mæl/ may refer to a shopping mall, a strip mall, a pedestrian street, or an esplanade (a long open area where people can walk).
The Promenade at Chenal is not considered a mall.

Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as "Washington", "the District", or simply "D.C.", is the capital of the United States. The signing of the Residence Act on July 16, 1790, approved the creation of a capital district located along the Potomac River on the country's East Coast. The U.S. Constitution provided for a federal district under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Congress and the District is therefore not a part of any U.S. state.
The states of Maryland and Virginia each donated land to form the federal district, which included the pre-existing settlements of Georgetown and Alexandria. Named in honor of George Washington, the City of Washington was founded in 1791 to serve as the new national capital. In 1846, Congress returned the land originally ceded by Virginia; in 1871, it created a single municipal government for the remaining portion of the District.
Washington had an estimated population of 672,228 as of July 2015. Commuters from the surrounding Maryland and Virginia suburbs raise the city's population to more than one million during the workweek. The Washington metropolitan area, of which the District is a part, has a population of over 6 million, the seventh-largest metropolitan statistical area in the country.

The National Mall is a national treasure that plays a central role in the life of the D.C. community and the nation. While the historic 1791 L’Enfant Plan and later enhancements of the 1902 McMillan Plan established a visionary program for developing this public space for the nation’s capital, subsequent fragmented government oversight and piecemeal planning continues to undermine the development of a coherent and environmentally sustainable program. This panel of activists, policy makers, architects, and urban designers discussed the challenges today in rising above jurisdictional interests and creating a discerning plan for the Mall that advances an effective creative vision for the 21st century. Is the ecumenical, one-world church starting to come "Together"? The theme of "unity" is very much a new age & one world message. There's nothing wrong with Christians coming together for a conference, but the fact that Pope Francis will be a KEY speaker via live feed should raise red flags! The fact that he openly advocates the climate change agenda which is rooted in Gaia/pagan worship shows who he is. This "prophetic awakening" as he refers to climate change is a major deception. The fact that Hillsong United will be one of the key performers should also cause alarm bells to be going off in your spirit! Is a world-wide "reset" coming soon? Will the church experience a "reset" due to many being deceived & falling back into the RCC? Will the financial world experience a "reset" from a one...
