A group of people around the world are suddenly linked mentally, and must find a way to survive being hunted by those who see them as a threat to the world's order.

In an open letter to creators Lilly and Lana Wachowski, xHamster's vice president Alex Hawkins said he didn't want to create a porn parody, but a fully-fledged third season.

"Ever since we read about the cancellation, we've been wondering if there was something we could do," he wrote. "While we're happy that Netflix is picking up the series for a conclusion, before you wrap up the story, we wanted you to consider another option - letting xHamster produce the series."

Hawkins promised his website had the "eyeballs and revenue" to create a third season.

"We'd like to set up a meeting to see if there's some fit for us in the future of Sense8," he said. "We know we're an unlikely home. But five years ago, people laughed at the idea of Netflix producing original series. We think that our time, like yours, has come."

Netflix announced it was cancelling the sci-fi drama back in June. While it never gave a public explanation for axing the series, each episode of the second season reportedly cost around $US9 million to make.

Lana Wachowski, who, along with her sibling was the brains behind the Matrix films, has also publicly said Sense8's numbers had "always been challenging".

When the axe fell, the show's fans caused an online storm, resulting in Netflix promising to bring the series back for a two-hour finale in 2018.
