Hot Chocolate Band - Give Peace a Chance 7" (1969)

Hot Chocolate Band later changed their name to Hot Chocolate and they had a hit that you might recognize.
They had a Jamaican singer Errol Brown who had an extensive list of records that he released on his own. His/Hot Chocolate Band's  first release was this cover of John Lennon's song that Errol changed the lyrics to. Lennon approved and this single was released on the Beatles' label Apple Records.

A - Give Peace a Chance

B - Living Without Tommorow

Errol Brown died in May of 2015.

As some of you may know Tone and Wave is based out of San Bernardino California. I, Jason Duncan, am a social worker with San Bernardino County's Department of Social Services. The victims in yesterday's attack were my co-workers. In fact, the person responsible was also my co-worker. I try not to use this blog for my own personal agenda but just this once I think it's okay.

Like you, I have my personal views on gun control, religious extremism and every thing else. In the end we all have different views on many things.

Do you remember the old Dave Mason song "We Just Disagree"?
"There ain't no good guy...there ain't no bad guy...there's only you and me and we just disagree..."

I'd like to believe that this is how it is. But, what pushes somebody who disagrees with you to murder innocent people?

Religion is the backdrop but is it really about religion? Could it be that it's really about how we as people treat everybody else around us? That whole "You're either with us or you're against us" mentality?

Treat everybody with respect. Be nice to everybody.

Beatroots - Unnecessary War 7" (1982)

"In the late 70’s Flashback began life, in Cardiff, as a Reggae/Funk outfit.

With the early success of UB40 and the rise of Two-Tone, the decision was made to concentrate on Reggae, and the band’s name was changed to The Beatroots to better reflect the new direction.

1982 saw the independent release of the Bob Lamb-produced tracks Unnecessary War and I Wanna Dance With You. Both songs were written by J. Henry.

The band split around 1983 due to business disagreements."

A - Unnecessary War

B - I Wanna Dance With You

The Lotions 12" EP (1981) [REPOST*]

I know what you're thinking..."who's this Rastaman?" Right? That's what you're thinking. Well, I have a surprise for you - this man is not Jamaican, no, he's actually from Texas.
His name is Alan Monsarrat and he started the first ska/reggae band in Texas.
I have not found any information that would lead me to believe that they released anything other than this EP.

However, Alan himself is currently heading Austin's premiere reggae band Mau Mau Chaplains. (As well as the band Stop the Truck)
They sound like this:

The Lotions sound like this...this is a cover of "Pushin' Too Hard" originally by the Seeds

A1 - Pushin' Too Hard
A2 - Groovin Song
B1 - Get Up (Don't Get Down)
B2 - Just Like a King

Luddy Pioneer with Joe Lewis & the Ska Kings - Ska Revival (1975)

This record was ahead of its time - the name "Ska Revival", the black and white checkers, and that unique sound a few years before Jerry Dammers and the Specials adopted these elements as their own - I would be surprised if this wasn't the spark that started the 2 Tone fire. .

1 Time Longer Than Rope
2 Housewife Choice
3 Tickle Me
4 Burning Fire
5 Mama No Fret
6 Never Never
7 Rough & Tough
8 Pretty Lou Lou

va Reggae Beat (1984)

Wow, the way the mind works. When I posted the Tracey Harvey single I distinctly remember it sounding the same way on this compilation. I haven't listened to this comp in years and it was strange hearing Shy Girl again because it sounds nothing like the single and I retract my previous statement that it is the best song on this album. The single version is great. The one on this record is not very good at all. In fact, the majority of these songs are mediocre at best. There are a couple of good selections though.
For example:
Althea Ranks* - Radio

1 Althea Ranks - Karma Chameleon
2 Jesse Green - Why You Not Take it Slow?
3 Bonnie Benedict - Caribbean Dream
4 Robert Chonia - Let the Music Play
5 Skyway - Fight for Understanding
6 Althea Ranks - Radio
7 Tracey Harvey - Shy Girl
8 Dillinger - Slipe Pen Road
9 Althea Ranks - Israelites
10 Robert Chonia - Searching for Love
11 Gene Wolf - Who's That Sneakin'?
12 Orchestra Raymondo
13 Nynus Sylvia - Caribbean Man

*I'm guessing Althea Ranks is Althea Forrest from Althea and Donna. Anybody know?

OZO double post [link updated 09/11/2016]

On the post I did for OZO - Listen to the Buddha 7" I received a comment from Kosmikino:

"It would be great if you could repost the Listen To The Buddha backed with the cover of Kites by Simon Dupree And The Big Sound as too few Ozo recordings are available on the net. Sadly it seems the driving force behind Ozo, Keni St. George, went AWOL a number of years back and attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful. I know I would love to see their recordings reissued as they are without a doubt one of the most criminally under-rated bands ever. Many thanks if you can help with my request. PS> Thanks to Enterprises for the source and date of the video, it has had me baffled for a long time where the recording came from."

So, instead of reposting the single, here are two full lengths from OZO:

Listen to the Buddha (1976)
1 Listen to the Buddha
2 You Better Run
3 Kites
4 Anambra
5 Love Me Tomorrow
6 Who Shot Him Down

1 Museum of Mankind
2 Tales from the Bardo
3 Don't Cry Johannesburg

Reggae band form Holland. Here's them doing a Neil Diamond cover on the b-side.
I know they had at least 2 more singles and I think they had an album that compiled the singles. If I'm not mistaken - and I probably am - the LP was called "Singer Man"
