Paris (UK: /ˈpærɪs/ PARR-iss; US: i/ˈpɛərɪs/ PAIR-iss; French: [paʁi]) is the capital and most populous city of France. Situated on the Seine River, in the north of the country, it is in the centre of the Île-de-France region, also known as the région parisienne, "Paris Region". The City of Paris has an area of 105 km² (41 mi²) and a population of 2,241,346 (2014 estimate) within its administrative borders essentially unchanged since 1860.
Since the 19th century, the built-up area of Paris has grown far beyond its administrative borders; together with its suburbs, the whole agglomeration has a population of 10,550,350 (Jan. 2012 census).Paris' metropolitan area spans most of the Paris region and has a population of 12,341,418 (Jan. 2012 census), or one-fifth of the population of France. The administrative region covers 12,012 km² (4,638 mi²), with approximately 12 million inhabitants as of 2014, and has its own regional council and president.
Paris was founded in the 3rd century BC by a Celtic people called the Parisii, who gave the city its name. By the 12th century, Paris was the largest city in the western world, a prosperous trading centre, and the home of the University of Paris, one of the first in Europe. In the 18th century, it was the centre stage for the French Revolution, and became an important centre of finance, commerce, fashion, science, and the arts, a position it still retains today.

The Latin Quarter of Paris (French: Quartier latin, IPA: [kaʁtje latɛ̃]) is an area in the 5th and the 6th arrondissements of Paris. It is situated on the left bank of the Seine, around the Sorbonne.
Known for its student life, lively atmosphere and bistros, the Latin Quarter is the home to a number of higher education establishments besides the university itself, such as the Lang–Martinez Psychiatric Hospital, the École des Mines de Paris, Panthéon-Assas University, the Schola Cantorum, and the Jussieu university campus. Other establishments such as the École Polytechnique have relocated in recent times to more spacious settings.
The area gets its name from the Latin language, which was once widely spoken in and around the University since Latin was the language of learning in the Middle Ages in Europe.
New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.
Le Marais ("The Marsh", French pronunciation: [maʁɛ]) is a historic district in Paris, France. Long the aristocratic district of Paris, it hosts many outstanding buildings of historic and architectural importance. It spreads across parts of the 3rd and 4th arrondissements in Paris (on the Rive Droite, or Right Bank, of the Seine).
In 1240 the Order of the Temple built its fortified church just outside the walls of Paris, in the northern part of the Marais. The Temple turned this district into an attractive area, which became known as the Temple Quarter, and many religious institutions were built nearby: the des Blancs-Manteaux, de Sainte-Croix-de-la-Bretonnerie and des Carmes-Billettes convents, as well as the church of Sainte-Catherine-du-Val-des-Écoliers.
During the mid-13th century, Charles I of Anjou, King of Naples and Sicily, and brother of King Louis IX of France built his residence near the current n°7 rue de Sévigné. In 1361 the King Charles V built a mansion known as the Hôtel Saint-Pol in which the Royal Court settled during his reign as well as his son's.
Montmartre (French pronunciation: [mɔ̃.maʁtʁ]) is a large hill in Paris's 18th arrondissement. It is 130 metres high and gives its name to the surrounding district, part of the Right Bank in the northern section of the city. Montmartre is primarily known for the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur on its summit and as a nightclub district. The other, older, church on the hill is Saint Pierre de Montmartre, which claims to be the location at which the Jesuit order of priests was founded.

Montmartre is also the setting for several hit films. This site is served by metro line 2 stations of Anvers, Pigalle and Blanche and the line 12 stations of Pigalle, Abbesses, Lamarck - Caulaincourt and Jules Joffrin.

A little description of some of the areas we feel are best for tourists in Paris, France
This is a look at the hilly Montmartre area of Paris, with emphasis on the parts of the butte that are off the well-worn tourist track. I've already made a video that shows the touristy parts of Montmartre, such as Sacré-Cœur basilica and the artists' square (place du Tertre). You can find that on my channel, or there's a link to it at the end of this video. This considerably longer video explores just about everything except those touristy areas. Of course, all of Montmartre (and all of Paris) attracts tourists, but the density of tourists declines by at least a factor of 100 once you are off the beaten track. There is a great deal to see in Montmartre, and this video cannot do it proper justice in 38 minutes. It's much more interesting to walk through this neighborhood than it is to se...

Hello and welcome for another video tour of a fantastic Paris neighborhood by New York Habitat ( http://www.nyhabitat.com ). In this video we are going to have a look at the area around La Bastille, which is located in the southeast of Paris, just beside the Marais. With its real Parisian feel, the Bastille has all kinds of unique hidden treasures. This will be the first of a three-part series on this fantastic neighborhood. The Place de la Bastille is the area where The Bastille, a formidable fortress on the eastern gate of Paris, was built in the 1300s. After the revolution, the prison was dismantled and many of its study blocks went to the building of the Concorde Bridge. While the prison no longer exists, La Place de la Bastille is much a part of Parisian life. It's quite the bus...

A good pair of headphones is required to experience the full 3D audio effect. We modified our custom microphone and upgraded our camera to capture our trip to France and Spain. Here is part 1 of 3, where we explore Montmartre and the surrounding area.
For this episode, I will do some street photography, but instead of trying to shoot some people, I will concentrate my attention to the shapes, the textures, light and lines that Paris offers during the night. Most of these pictures were taken at Montmartre (18th District). Shooting at night give you the opportunity to rediscover the city, through different light, the atmosphere totally changes. In daylight Montmartre is a very busy area since a lot of tourists want to visit it (in particular the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur or The Place du Tertre know for the painters who make portraits). But at night, very late, this place empties until becoming like a ghost town. I was literally alone walking down the street, which is surprising because I have always seen Montmartre very crowded. And becaus...

France's largest and most exciting amusement park feature 4 themed areas with a exelirating rollercoaster in each. Paris Planet started its life as a small resort just a few km off of paris. It was a cheap alternative for tourist who wanted a hotel for paris since it offered free transportation from the hotel to the city and back. The resort quickly became popular in the begining of the 1970s. France Documentary: French History Documentary, 1968 Riots in Paris, French Strikes. The May 1968 events in France were a volatile period of civil unrest punctuated by massive general strikes and the occupation of factories and universities across France. It was the largest general strike ever attempted in France, and the first ever nation-wide wildcat general strike. At the height of its fervour, the unrest virtually brought the entire advanced capitalist economy of France to a dramatic halt. The events had a resounding impact on French society that would be felt for decades to come.
