Tom Cruise's stunt goes horribly wrong; Karl Stefanovic and Tim Minchin slam the government's marriage equality plebiscite, and Rhinestone Cowboy singer Glen Campbell dies.

The superhero movie was panned by critics around the world, and Bell admitted he still cringes every time it is brought up.

"There are several things on that movie I was clearly not privy to because I'm just an actor and I just do my stuff on set," he told the LA Times

"Everything starts with the best of intentions. A production begins with the idea to make something that's unique and original and with integrity. I think the film really strived towards those goals."

However, the 31-year-old admits something terrible obviously happened between shooting and the movie's release.

"I think we were all bitterly disappointed with that film," he said. "But that's just the way it goes sometimes."

While Fantastic Four pulled in $212 million at the global Box Office, it's overall budget was just north of $195 million.

Critics slammed the production, with The Atlantic calling it a "dull, sour, claustrophobic mess" while The New York Times, said despite the talent of its young cast the film "has nothing".

At the time, The Hollywood Reporter published an extraordinary behind-the-scenes report, with sources claiming director Josh Trank told cast members when they could blink and breathe during takes.

When post-production wrapped up, Trank also reportedly sent an email to some cast and crew arguing the movie was better than "99 per cent" of all other comic-book films.

"I don't think so," one person shot back.

Bell isn't the only cast member to be upfront about the movie's shortcomings. Bell's wife and Fantastic Four co-star Kate Mara has admitted she can't bring herself to watch the film.
