Volunteering through DAV is a wonderful way Americans help keep our nation’s promise to our veterans. DAV provides numerous opportunities for citizens to participate in volunteer programs in their own communities that address a wide range of veteran needs. DAV volunteers at VA hospitals, nursing homes and clinics perform many important services that bring comfort, care and companionship to grateful patients. Volunteers are essential to DAV’s vital medical transportation service. Using our national fleet of vehicles, volunteer drivers take veterans to and from medical appointments for free. No matter how you’d like to volunteer, DAV can help you return a measure of service to veterans who served us all.

Today, with nearly 1.3 million members and nearly 1,300 local Chapters, DAV represents the voices of ill and injured veterans before Congress, the White House and the judicial branch, as well as state and local governments. DAV fights for veterans’ rights and promotes policies that ensure veterans and their families can live with respect and dignity. When DAV leaders testify before Congress, policymakers listen, and it’s because of our members—a voice that policymakers cannot ignore. Advocacy is an extremely important piece of what DAV does for veterans and our members. The louder our voice, the stronger our presence and DAV wants your voice to be heard. For most veterans, finding a good job after military service is critical to making a successful return to civilian life and being able to support themselves and their families. DAV is committed to giving veterans every advantage as they look for meaningful employment. With our partners, RecruitMilitary and Veteran Recruiting we sponsor career fairs to introduce veterans and their spouses directly to employers seeking the unique talents of veterans. We also connect veterans to job training and job assistance programs to help them be as marketable as possible. Getting veterans back to work is one of the most important ways DAV is giving back to the men and women who served.
