The labour movement has been unable to de-link itself from its archenemy: capital. As its structures bureaucratise, as its leaders become career unionists, as it opens investment companies and pays staff increasingly inequitable salaries, it increasingly mirrors the very thing it is fighting. If the South African Federation of Trade Unions is to meet its promise, it must be fundamentally different from the organisation it was born out of.A federation will not liberate the class, nor will its affiliates; only the working class can liberate itself and it will never be able to do that as long as there is an implicit belief in a Great Leader/s; as long as the union is seen as a legal service and as long as power and money are centralised. A truly participatory, democratic trade union would be one where the locals/branches of each affiliate control the membership dues collected, where they would use their dues to do work on the ground and put some aside for provincial and national work; where the workers have direct ownership of the means of trade union production (negotiation, representation, mobilisation) and where the extremely loosely used term, democracy, translates into individual worker agency and empowerment to ensure that the base, the majority, the working class, is where true power lies, and that it uses its power to change the world for the benefit of the many.

When we have to deal with disagreements, conflicts and faults, these problems must be solved with a justice that is based on our libertarian ethical values. What does this concretely mean? That we have to hear all the parties involved and make sure to provide physical and psychological protection too all, especially if someone has – at least presumably – been hurt. In cases of sexual violence – for instance – we should not reproduce the bias of bourgeois patriarchal so-called “justice” that too frequently isolates (female) survivors and dismisses their feelings and words. It means that we have to establish means to examine the different positions and eliminate any doubts. That we have to have democratic and collective processes to deal with that and to take decisions and make recommendations. And, mainly, that we must first try to reeducate people instead of punishing or isolating them. Not that in some cases punishment or isolation couldn’t be the only solution, but, at least, we have to make (re)education a priority over punishment and isolation, which should be last resorts.
To deal with these problems within our movement instances of ethical justice that aim to resolve major disagreements, conflicts and faults are necessary. These instance, such as an “ethics commission” for example, could be convened and articulated whenever one or more militants within our movement or organizations identify a problem of this kind and ask formally for the establishment of a commission. The establishment of a commission (or the denial) would be the result of a collective decision made by the deliberative and decision-making bodies of the respective organizations. If a commission is established, then a certain number of militants not involved with the case could be mandated to constitute the commission and be given a deadline to listen to the different parties involved, to develop positions, eliminate doubts and then to produce a written document with a position and recommendations to the respective organization.

The struggle of the black working class majority of Freedom Park, South Africa, is not just for land on which to build housing – although that is obviously a central issue and key demand; nor is it just against the accompanying political and police violence and intimidation. It is a struggle against the injustice, violence and corruption of a system that puts the power, privileges and profits of a few before the lives and wellbeing of the majority.

Corte de rua e barricada no estado do Paraná.
O Brasil vive um terremoto político, escancarando a podridão das elites do país e fragilizando ainda mais os laços que as sustentam no poder. A operação orquestrada que possibilitou a gravação entre o presidente Michel Temer e o dono da JBS, maior empresa de carnes do mundo, altera a correlação de forças no país e joga gasolina na crise política e social. Com a instabilidade política, o governo tem mais dificuldade para mobilizar sua base e avançar com as Reformas da Previdência e Trabalhista, os maiores ataques à classe oprimida. Isso não é motivo para se comemorar, não devemos tirar peso destas lutas. Agora é a hora de partir pra cima, massificar as mobilizações com o trancamento das ruas, paralisações rumo à greve geral para barrar os cortes sociais e as reformas. Devemos aprofundar a democracia, mas a democracia direta, onde as/os trabalhadoras/es nos seus locais de trabalho, estudo e moradia decidam o rumo do país. O momento é desfavorável para nós oprimidos e oprimidas, mas a crise e a disputa entre as elites abrem margem para outros projetos.

This article looks at immigration in New Zealand/Aotearoa in the context of the impending General Election and it use as an issue by the main political parties. En février 2015, quatre militant-e-s de quartier [community activists] originaires de Boiketlong dans le Vaal, au sud de Johannesburg, ont été condamné-e-s à 16 ans de prison chacun-e à la suite d’une manifestation locale. C’est une condamnation très sévère et qui s’est basée sur des preuves très peu tangibles. Les « Quatre de Boiketlong » ont été arrêté-e-s et accusé-e-s d’avoir agressé de la conseillère local de quartier (membre de l’ANC1) et d’avoir mis le feu à sa maison et à deux voitures pendant ladite manifestation. Elles et ils ont été jugé-e-s coupables d’agression avec intention de causer de sérieux dégâts humains, d’incendie, de dégradations aggravées et d’atteinte à la propriété. C’est un exemple de la terrible injustice qui est menée contre les militant-e-s de la classe ouvrière noire et cela pourrait avoir de dangereuses répercussions pour les luttes à venir de la classe ouvrière noire et des pauvres en Afrique du Sud, si on ne combat pas cette décision de justice. Les gens doivent être mis-es au courant des faits et des actions doivent être menées pour demander justice et pour combattre la criminalisation de la pauvreté et des mouvements sociaux.
Nel febbraio del 2015, 4 attivisti comunitari di Boiketlong in the Vaal, a sud di Johannesburg, furono condannati ognuno a 16 anni di prigione a seguito di una protesta comunitaria. Si tratta di una sentenza molto severa e la condanna si basò su prove incerte. I 4 di Boiketlong vennero arrestati per aver attaccato, secondo quanto riportato, il locale consigliere distrettuale dell’ANC e aver appiccato il fuoco alla sua abitazione e a due macchine durante la protesta comunitaria. I 4 furono perciò condannati per assalto con l’intento di causare gravi lesioni personali, incendio e danneggiamento volontario della proprietà. Questo è un esempio della terribile ingiustizia perpetrata contro attivisti proletari neri e potrebbe avere pericolose ripercussioni per le future lotte della classe lavoratrice nera e dei poveri in Sud Africa, se non combattuta. La gente deve essere consapevole di ciò e attivarsi per chiedere giustizia e combattere la criminalizzazione della povertà e della protesta.
En febrero de 2015, cuatro militantes de Boiketlong in the Vaal, sur de Johannesburgo, fueron sentenciados a 16 años en prisión después de una protesta en su comunidad. Esta es una sentencia muy severa y está basada en una evidencia muy débil. Los cuatro de Boiketlong fueron arrestados por atacar al concejal local de la ANC (Consejo Nacional Africano, partido del fallecido Nelson Mandela) e incendiar su casa y dos autos durante la protesta de la comunidad. Fueron arrestados por daños corporales graves, incendios intencionales y daño intencional a la propiedad. Este es un ejemplo de una terrible injusticia perpetrada contra la los militantes trabajadores negros y puede tener peligrosas repercusiones en futuras luchas de los trabajadores negros y pobres en Sudáfrica si no es combatido. La gente debe ser advertida de estos hechos e iniciar acciones para reclamar justicia y luchar contra la criminalización de la pobreza y la protesta.
Δύο νεκροί και δύο τραυματίες είναι ο απολογισμός εργατικού δυστυχήματος που σημειώθηκε το πρωί της Τρίτης στο δίκτυο του Βιολογικού καθαρισμού, κοντά στην πλατεία Πηγών, στη Σκάλα Λακωνίας. Σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες, νεκρός είναι ένας 51χρονος εργάτης υπήκοος Βουλγαρίας, ο οποίος εκτελούσε εργασίες καθαρισμού σε αποχετευτικό δίκτυο βιολογικού καθαρισμού, καθώς και ένας 37χρονος (εργαζόμενος σε κοντινό κατάστημα), που έσπευσε να βοηθήσει τον 51χρονο, όταν έχασε τις αισθήσεις του. Παράλληλα, σε κρίσιμη κατάσταση νοσηλεύεται ΜΕΘ του Θριάσιου Νοσοκομείου Ελευσίνας, ο ένας εκ των δύο τραυματιών. Πρόκειται για έναν 22χρονο, ο οποίος διακομίσθηκε στο νοσοκομείο Σπάρτης σε κωματώδη κατάσταση, με οξεία αναπνευστική ανεπάρκεια. Σύμφωνα με τον διοικητή του νοσοκομείου Σωτήρη Μπότσιο, ο 22χρονος διασωληνώθηκε άμεσα και οι γιατροί κατέβαλλαν προσπάθειες, για την αναρρόφηση υγρών από τους πνεύμονες. Ο δεύτερος τραυματίας που είναι 66χρόνων, διακομίσθηκε στο νοσοκομείο με μέτρια αναπνευστική ανεπάρκεια και η κατάσταση της υγείας του κρίνεται από τους γιατρούς σταθερή και ικανοποιητική.

An urgent response needs to be taken by activists and solidarity groups in EU and the rest of the world to demand the freedom the hunger strikers and immediate access to medical care for them.
This article points out a couple of issues that are slowing down our movement. They are single issue and individualism & lifestyle. Many of our comrades in UK an Europe work only on a single issue, in addition some of us do not try hard enough beyond our lifestyle . Of course, our weaknesses are not only these two , in fact there are many more but in this article I just concentrate on these two.
Parece mentira, pero para la enseñanza pública, en el caso de ANEP, esta Rendición consta de un sólo artículo por el cual se dice que se otorgarán para salarios 1500 millones de pesos, o sea 50 millones de dólares. No se dice cómo se distribuirán, montos, plazos, partidas, etc. Nada. Sin embargo, el proyecto trae un detallado capítulo para el Ministerio de Interior, donde se abunda en la creación de todo tipo de cargos, los cuales suman unos varios cientos, se otorgan fondos para cargos jerárquicos y para contratar profesionales universitarios de diversas orientaciones. Es llamativo que sea uno de los pocos ministerios que requiera de este tipo de profesionales por lo cual se puede apreciar que la tecnificación de la policía pasa por insertar en el aparato policial sociólogos, psiquiatras, diversos licenciados...También que sea colaborar con la represión una de las pocas salidas laborales que tengan los profesionales egresados de la Universidad nos habla de un gran problema, de hacia dónde se está volcando la educación superior en nuestro país.

Θεωρούμε πως πρέπει να ανοίξει ένας διάλογος στην τοπική κοινωνία για την ορθολογική κοινή χρήση (κι όχι εκμετάλλευση) του βουνού, στην κατεύθυνση της συμπληρωματικής ισόρροπης συμβίωσης ανθρώπων και φύσης.
Si bien cada región tiene sus particularidades, el despojo y el saqueo son constantes que encontramos en todos los territorios en conflicto en Colombia. Las dinámicas de violencia y colonización, resistencia y despojo, de militarización y paramilitarización, son sorprendentemente similares a las de otros territorios. Podemos decir que, en gran medida, la historia del Sur de Bolívar es la historia de Colombia. Sin embargo, a la vez la historia del Sur de Bolívar es muy particular. La importancia estratégica del Sur de Bolívar, así como las dinámicas económicas y sociales de la región, le dan matices muy particulares que le imprimen a este proceso un carácter único, que tratamos de develar conversando con un protagonista de esta historia.
Οι μετανάστες/ριες που είχαν εγκλωβιστεί δέχθηκαν την μανία των ΜΑΤ που εισέβαλαν ακόμα και στο εσωτερικό των κοντέινερ ξυλοκοπώντας αδιακρίτως όποιους έβρισκαν μπροστά τους και συλλαμβάνοντας εν τέλει 35 άτομα στο σωρό, με μοναδικό κριτήριο το χρώμα του δέρματος, αφού είχαν στοχοποιηθεί αφρικανοί μετανάστες. Πολύ μετανάστες είναι χτυπημένοι, ενώ μεταξύ τους υπάρχουν τραυματίες από ευθείες βολές δακρυγόνων, με έναν μετανάστη να φέρει τραύμα στο στήθος και ακόμα έναν στο πόδι. Όλοι οι συλληφθέντες οδηγήθηκαν στη Γενική Αστυνομική Διεύθυνση Λέσβου όπου κρατήθηκαν και σύμφωνα με τις καταγγελίες τους συνέχισαν να δέχονται χτυπήματα από τους μπάτσους. Ενώ οι περισσότεροι ήταν τραυματισμένοι, μόνο ένας από αυτούς οδηγήθηκε στο νοσοκομείο Μυτιλήνης όπου και κρίθηκε αναγκαία η νοσηλεία του. In February 2015, four community activists from Boiketlong in the Vaal, south of Johannesburg, were sentenced to 16 years in prison each following a community protest. This is a very severe sentence and the conviction was based on shaky evidence. The ‘Boiketlong Four’ were arrested for allegedly attacking the local ANC ward councillor and setting fire to her shack and two cars during a community protest. They were convicted of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, arson and malicious injury to property. This is an example of a terrible injustice perpetrated against black working class activists and could have dangerous repercussions for future struggles of the black working class and poor in South Africa if it is not fought. People need to be aware of the facts and take action to demand justice and to fight the criminalisation of poverty and protest.
