A notorious paedophile jailed for violent sexual offences against children in Thailand and just released from a WA prison for a violent assault has been arrested in Perth and charged with more alleged child sex offences.
Bradley Pen Dragon was serving five years jail with no parole for assaulting a Perth mother with a knife in front of her baby.
Dragon has now served his full term for that offence.
It's understood he walked free from Acacia jail earlier this month.
"I can confirm Mr Dragon's earliest date of release was calculated to (be) 6 August 2017 and he has served the entirety of his sentence," a Prisoners Review Board spokesperson told WAtoday.
Pen Dragon was arrested by detectives from the Sex Crime Division in Perth overnight and is due to face court on Friday, charged with allegedly possessing child pornography.
The charge stems from an alleged incident police said occurred on Saturday, August 12, just after his release from jail.
Although Dragon, 57, has previously spent 13 years in a Thai prison for violent sexual offences against children, he couldn't be classified as a 'dangerous sexual offender' under the state's Dangerous Sexual Offenders Act while serving his most recent jail term.
Under the act the Supreme Court can order certain sexual offenders to be detained indefinitely, or be subjected to a stringent supervision order if they are released back into the community.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), who file all such applications with the Supreme Court, told WAtoday the Dangerous Sexual Offenders Act 'has no application to the case' of Dragon.
"It is only appropriate for the ODPP to say that Mr Dragon is not a person who falls within the definition of section 8(1) of the Act and no application can therefore be made," a spokesperson for the ODPP said.
The knife attack for which Dragon was serving five years jail occurred in August 2012 in Mount Lawley.
The victim was walking to her car and placed her baby into the back seat.
Before she could drive away, Dragon opened the rear passenger door, fell on top of the baby seat and placed the knife in the woman's face.
The woman bravely fought back, grabbed the blade and wrenched it from him. She sustained cuts to the fingers on her right hand from the knife.
Dragon pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with intent to rob.
His criminal history was detailed at length during his Supreme Court sentencing for the attack.
In 1993 he was convicted of the violent sexual offences against children in Thailand.
He was released in 2006 and deported back to Australia.
In early 2008 he was sentenced in the WA District Court to a suspended jail term for possession of child pornography.
Just weeks later, he committed a further offence of possession of child pornography and was ordered to serve the term of imprisonment which had been suspended, although on appeal the suspended sentence was decreased.
In 2009 he committed weapons offences and a further eight offences related to possession of child pornography.
He received fines for the weapons offences and more jail time for the child pornography offences.
He was released from prison in May 2012 and carried out the knife robbery two-and-a-half months later.
