The beauty brands banking on Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is the type of show that manages to straddle both popular and cult status. There are those fans who love it while it's on and then go about their ordinary lives when it's not. And then, there are those fans who live GoT like their own religion. Yes, we're talking Cosplay, which is a serious business. So it should come as no surprise that there is a small, but burgeoning, category of make-up and makeup accessories devoted to the GoT theme.

You'd have to be blinded by a raven not to notice the number of make-up tutorials devoted to getting the GoT look as they've been around since the show began. Michelle Phan's tutorial on how to achieve Daenerys Targaryen's literal face and hair has notched up over 4 million views on YouTube.

Speaking of hair, there abounds several pieces of internet real estate centred on how to properly plait and braid your hair in the style of Cersei Lannister or Sansa Stark. Although, one general rule of thumb for all of these tutorials might be to go heavy on eyebrows and moody background music.

Meanwhile, a nail polish company has released a collection called Dames of Thrones with epic varnishes, including a royal blue glittery one called Dancing with Dragons, a fiery-coloured, sequin-filled one called Belle of Winterfell, and a gorgeous green by the name of Garden of Thorns, (just to name a few).

But perhaps the company making the biggest impact is Storybook Cosmetics, which develop limited-edition collections of makeup and other paraphernalia for pop culture fantasy fans. (Think Harry Potter and Secret Garden).

They announced earlier this year via their Instagram page that they were working on a GoT "dragon inspired" lipstick range, an eyeshadow range, including quill eyeliner, and a bunch of brushes. These are reportedly due to drop in the Northern hemisphere's autumn, which, technically, means next month.

And then there are the accessories. A company called Catch 96 has just released a GoT –themed collection of eight eyeshadow brushes, which makes sense, because if you're going to Comic Con or its rough equivalent, you're going to need to decorate your face accordingly.

Each set is available in gold, rose gold, bronze, silver and copper, and each of the eight brushes carries an emblem of one of the great houses. Arryn, Baratheon, Greyjoy, Lannister, Stark, Targaryen, Tully and Tyrell. Although, a dedicated fan might point out that Baratheon is legally extinct. But then you, loyal servant that you are, might reply with something like "Gendry forever!" or "Mine is the fury!" and then watch that fan back away in awe, (while simultaneously ignoring the fact that unless you're at an official fan convention, you've just alienated several of your co-workers.)

All of these companies have international shipping, so Australian fans can rest easy, or, alternatively, go forth, purchasing as much as your purses will allow, so that you may become the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the fan who forces men to bend their knees.

Just remember to pack a decent amount of make-up remover.
