Mozilla, Creative Commons, Wikimedia Foundation announce Bassel Khartabil Free Culture fellowship following execution of open culture activist

Several free knowledge, culture and open source oriented organisations collectively announced a three-year commitment for a free-culture fellowship to honour Bassel Khartabil's continuing influence on the open web, during the Wikimedia's annual conference Wikimania in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Palestinian-Syrian Khartabil was held in captivity under the Syrian government starting in 2012. Early this month his wife confirmed Khartabil had been executed in 2015.

At 16:02 local time (UTC+3) on Friday a man with a knife stabbed apparently random people at Market Square, Turku, Finland. Police said there were eight injured and two dead.

Ohio man charged with second-degree murder of Charlottesville, Virginia counter-protester

James Alex Fields Jr. of Maumee, Ohio was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Heather Heyer of Charlottesville, Virginia when a car drove into a crowd of people counter-protesting a group of white supremacists who were in Charlottesville to protest the removal of the town statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee.

New South Wales police extradict 'self-healer' Hongchi Xiao from London over death of six-year-old boy at conference

On Thursday, the New South Wales, Australia police 'self-healer' Hongchi Xiao, age reportedly 53 or 54, from London, United Kingdom over the death at his conference, allegedly from diabetic ketoacidosis, of a six-year-old boy.
