Ajeeb

Ajeeb was a chess-playing "automaton", created by Charles Hooper (a cabinet maker), first presented at the Royal Polytechnical Institute in 1868. A particularly intriguing piece of faux mechanical technology (while presented as entirely automated, it in fact concealed a strong human chess player inside), it drew scores of thousands of spectators to its games, the opponents for which included Harry Houdini, Theodore Roosevelt, and O. Henry. The device's name was derived from the Arabic/Urdu/Persian word عجيب (ʿajīb) meaning "wonderful, marvelous."

The genius behind "Ajeeb" were players such as Harry Nelson Pillsbury (1898–1904),Albert Beauregard Hodges, Constant Ferdinand Burille,Charles Moehle, and Charles Francis Barker.

In the history of such devices, it succeeded "The Turk" and preceded "Mephisto".

Ajeeb Daastaan Hai Ye

Ajeeb Daastaan Hai Ye is an Indian television show, which premiered in 2014 on Life OK. The show is an Indian soap opera produced by Ekta Kapoor under the banner Balaji Telefilms. The show marks the debut of Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre on Indian television in fiction genre. The title of the show Ajeeb Daastaan Hai Ye is inspired from the eponymous song from the 1960 Bollywood film Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai, originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar. The show aired through 6 March 2015.

Plot

Ajeeb Daastaan Hai Yeh is the story of Shobha (Sonali Bendre) who is happily married to politician Samarth (Harsh Chhaya) with two children. The story revolves around how she learns about her husband's betrayal and separates from him, look up for a job. She gets Vikram Ahuja (Apurva Agnihotri) who is a cold-hearted person and hates women as her boss. Despite all these, Shobha sets out on a new journey where she finds a good friend in her boss. Vikram also slowly considers her a friend and hence a new journey starts for both of them.

Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai

Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai is a 1960 Hindi movie produced by S. A. Bagar and directed by Kishore Sahu. The film stars Raaj Kumar, Meena Kumari, Nadira, Tun Tun, Helen and Om Prakash. The films music is by Shankar Jaikishan. One of the most famous songs in the film is "Ajeeb Dastan Hai Yeh" sung by Lata Mangeshkar.

Plot

Sushil Verma (Raaj Kumar) is a surgeon in the Shimla Hospital. He lives on the hospital grounds in a doctor's house with his ageing mother and younger sister Munni (Kumari Naaz). Sushil's father died and his father's close friend paid for his medical school fees, thus creating a debt that Sushil's mother feels needs to be fulfilled.

Karuna (Meena Kumari) is a nurse who comes to the Shimla hospital and first encounters Dr. Verma during an emergency surgery. Both are clearly besotted with each other, but keep their feelings restrained.

By chance, on a nurses' beach day trip, Karuna meets Munni, who injures herself whilst playing. She takes Munni back to her house, not knowing that she is Dr. Verma's sister, and the house she is visiting belongs to him. She dresses Munni's wounds, sees how much work needs to be done in the house, and the fact that his mother is too ill to attend household tasks. She immediately steps in and fulfills the duties of the housewife; cooking, cleaning and taking care of everyone. Sushil comes home to see this and falls even more in love.

Lata Mangeshkar ( pronunciation ) (born 28 September 1929) is an Indian playback singer, and occasional music-composer. She is one of the best-known and most respected playback singers in India. Mangeshkar's career started in 1942 and has spanned over seven decades. She has recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films and has sung songs in over thirty-six regional Indian languages and foreign languages, though primarily in Marathi and Hindi. She is the elder sister of singers Asha Bhosle, Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar. She is the second vocalist, after M. S. Subbulakshmi, to have ever been awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. India's highest award in cinema the Dadasaheb Phalke Award was bestowed her in 1989 by the Government of India.
