Kōji Yakusho
Kōji Hashimoto (橋本 広司, Hashimoto Kōji, born 1 January 1956), known professionally as Kōji Yakusho (役所 広司, Yakusho Kōji), is a Japanese actor.
Biography
Yakusho was born in Isahaya, Nagasaki, the youngest of five brothers. After graduation from the Nagasaki Prefectural High School of Technology in 1974, he worked at the Chiyoda municipal ward office, or yakusho, in Tokyo, from which he later took his stage name. In 1976, he saw a production of Maxim Gorky's The Lower Depths and was inspired, first to watch, and then later to take part in, as many plays as possible.
In the spring of 1978 he auditioned for Tatsuya Nakadai's the Mumeijuku (Studio for Unknown Performers) acting studio, and was one of four chosen out of 800 applicants. While at the school he met actress Saeko Kawatsu, whom he married in 1982. Their son was born in 1985.
In 1983, he landed the role of Oda Nobunaga in the year-long NHK drama Tokugawa Ieyasu and was catapulted to fame. He also appeared in a TV version of Miyamoto Musashi from 1984 to 1985. For several years, he played Kuji Shinnosuke (or "Sengoku"), one of the title characters in the jidaigeki Sambiki ga Kiru!. He played a major character in Juzo Itami's 1986 Tampopo.

Tamiyo Kusakari
Tamiyo Kusakari (草刈 民代, Kusakari Tamiyo, born 10 May 1965) is a Japanese dancer for the Maki Asami Ballet Company.
In 1987, she made her debut as Odette in Swan Lake.
Biography
From Toshima, Tokyo, Kusakari started dancing professionally at the age of eight and won the first prize at the Japan Ballet Competition of 1987. She received the Muramatsu Award in 1988, and the Tachibana Akiko Award in 1990. At 27, she suffered a hernia that nearly ended her career, leaving her a temporary wheelchair user.
Kusakari is also known for her starring role in Shall We Dance? During the production of the movie she met and later married the director, Masayuki Suo.
She starred in Suo's 2012 film A Terminal Trust.

http://www.japansociety.org/ Japan Cuts 2012 centerpiece highlighted the career of living Japanese film legend Koji Yakusho who was in attendance for the screening of his film "The Woodsman and the Rain" on July 20, 2012 for an introduction and audience Q&A; as well as to accept the first ever Japan Cuts "Cut Above" award. Koji Yakusho, Japan's leading acting man, born on January 1, 1956 in Isahaya City, Nagasaki Prefecture, became a highly acclaimed star in 1983 while playing the role of Oda Nobunaga in NHK's drama Tokugawa Ieyasu. Yet, it was originally Maxim Gorky's The Lower Depths which stimulated Yakusho's theatrical "obsession." Yakusho's first big breakthrough came in 1978 when '60s actor and icon Tatsuya Nakadai selected him and 3 others out of 800 applicants to study at the Mumei-juku ("Studio for Unknown Performers"). In reference to his experience as a civil servant, Nakadai gave him the stage name "Yakusho", which means either "municipal office" or "acting versatility." In 1986, he played the nameless "Man in the White Suit", who gleefully transgresses all social norms in some of the most memorable scenes of Juzo Itami's Tampopo (1985). Yakusho's passionate acting earned him much praise, and in 1998 he received a special award from the Japan Minister of Education, Science, Sports and Culture extolling his phenomenal contribution to Japanese culture. In the mid-90s, Yakusho's rise to superstardom seemed irresistible. Masayuki Suo's Shall We Dance? (1996), an instant classic, spurred a Japan-wide fascination with dance. The following year, The Eel won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and Yoshimitsu Morita's erotic drama A Lost Paradise was the second largest-grossing film at the Japanese box office. In cult favorite Cure (1997), directed by celebrated auteur Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Yakusho went on to play a cop pushed to the edge of the abyss by his search for a string of seemingly unconnected murders. Several collaborations with Kurosawa followed, to international acclaim (License to Live, Charisma). His performance in Shohei Imamura's Warm Water Under the Red Bridge earned him the award for Best Actor at the Chicago International Film Festival in 2001. After featuring in Rob Marshall's Memoirs of a Geisha (2005) and Alejandro Iñárritu's Babel (2006), Yakusho gained international recognition and a new wave of international admirers. In addition to acting, Yakusho made his début behind the camera with Toad's Oil in 2009. In June 2012, Yakusho received the Medal with Purple Ribbon from the Emperor of Japan for "outstanding achievement in the creative field." He is the Guest of Honor of this year's Japan Cuts. We will be paying tribute to his impressive body of work with a special focus on his acting career, premiering, among other things, his latest feature films The Woodsman and the Rain and Chronicle of my Mother as well as 2010 samurai hit 13 Assassins during the festival, and presenting him with the first Japan Cuts prize ever, the CUT ABOVE award for excellence in film. -

Yamashita, un colletto bianco, uccide la moglie dopo averla scoperta a casa con l'amante. Dopo aver passato otto anni in prigione, si trasferisce in un piccolo villaggio dove apre un negozio di barbiere. Non parla con nessuno, tranne con un amico conosciuto durante la galera. Japan Cuts 2012 centerpiece highlighted the career of living Japanese film legend Koji Yakusho who was in attendance for the screening of his film "The Woodsman and the Rain" on July 20, 2012 for an introduction and audience Q&A; as well as to accept the first ever Japan Cuts "Cut Above" award.
Koji Yakusho, Japan's leading acting man, born on January 1, 1956 in Isahaya City, Nagasaki Prefecture, became a highly acclaimed star in 1983 while playing the role of Oda Nobunaga in NHK's drama Tokugawa Ieyasu. Yet, it was originally Maxim Gorky's The Lower Depths which stimulated Yakusho's theatrical "obsession." Yakusho's first big breakthrough came in 1978 when '60s actor and icon Tatsuya Nakadai selected him and 3 others out of 800 applicants to study at the Mumei-juku ("Studio for Unknown Performers"). In reference to his experience as a civil servant, Nakadai gave him the stage name "Yakusho", which means either "municipal office" or "acting versatility." In 1986, he played the nameless "Man in the White Suit", who gleefully transgresses all social norms in some of the most memorable scenes of Juzo Itami's Tampopo (1985). Yakusho's passionate acting earned him much praise, and in 1998 he received a special award from the Japan Minister of Education, Science, Sports and Culture extolling his phenomenal contribution to Japanese culture.
In the mid-90s, Yakusho's rise to superstardom seemed irresistible. Masayuki Suo's Shall We Dance? (1996), an instant classic, spurred a Japan-wide fascination with dance. The following year, The Eel won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and Yoshimitsu Morita's erotic drama A Lost Paradise was the second largest-grossing film at the Japanese box office. In cult favorite Cure (1997), directed by celebrated auteur Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Yakusho went on to play a cop pushed to the edge of the abyss by his search for a string of seemingly unconnected murders. Several collaborations with Kurosawa followed, to international acclaim (License to Live, Charisma). His performance in Shohei Imamura's Warm Water Under the Red Bridge earned him the award for Best Actor at the Chicago International Film Festival in 2001.
After featuring in Rob Marshall's Memoirs of a Geisha (2005) and Alejandro Iñárritu's Babel (2006), Yakusho gained international recognition and a new wave of international admirers. In addition to acting, Yakusho made his début behind the camera with Toad's Oil in 2009.
In June 2012, Yakusho received the Medal with Purple Ribbon from the Emperor of Japan for "outstanding achievement in the creative field." He is the Guest of Honor of this year's Japan Cuts. We will be paying tribute to his impressive body of work with a special focus on his acting career, premiering, among other things, his latest feature films The Woodsman and the Rain and Chronicle of my Mother as well as 2010 samurai hit 13 Assassins during the festival, and presenting him with the first Japan Cuts prize ever, the CUT ABOVE award for excellence in film.
