Philadelphia (/ˌfɪləˈdɛlfiə/) is the largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the fifth-most-populous in the United States, with an estimated population in 2014 of 1,560,297. In the Northeastern United States, at the confluence of the Delaware and Schuylkill River, Philadelphia is the economic and cultural anchor of the Delaware Valley, a metropolitan area home to 7.2 million people and the eighth-largest combined statistical area in the United States.
In 1682, William Penn founded the city to serve as capital of the Pennsylvania Colony. Philadelphia played an instrumental role in the American Revolution as a meeting place for the Founding Fathers of the United States, who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the Constitution in 1787. Philadelphia was one of the nation's capitals in the Revolutionary War, and served as temporary U.S. capital while Washington, D.C., was under construction. In the 19th century, Philadelphia became a major industrial center and railroad hub that grew from an influx of European immigrants. It became a prime destination for African-Americans in the Great Migration and surpassed two million occupants by 1950.

I haven't visited historic Philadelphia, the birthplace of America, since I was a kid but this time I brought along my youngest niece. If you love American history, this is a must-do trip. One of the great things about visiting historic Philadelphia is that all of the main attractions are within easy walking distance of each other. We visited Independence Hall (my favorite because the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were signed here), the Liberty Bell, Benjamin Franklin's Grave in Christ Church Burial Ground, the Philadelphia Mint (my niece's favorite because you can see the coins being minted), the President's House (America's first White House), the National Constitution Center (where original copies of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights are held), the Betsy Ross...

Take a tour of some of the most historic buildings of America. Historic Philadelphia is where the Founding Fathers laid the groundwork for the creation of America. Not only is the city packed with sites that commemorate what they did, but you can visit the places where they actually lived and worked. Let's start with Declaration House on Seventh and Market Street. Thomas Jefferson lived here during the time he wrote the Declaration of Independence. He wrote the document in three weeks. The Liberty Bell, right here on Sixth Street, is perhaps Philadelphia's most famous attraction. On July 8th, 1776, it was rung to commemorate the hearing of the Declaration of Independence. The Bell weighs 2,000 pounds, which may not be apparent by looking at it. It was cracked in 1846, and has not be...
Philadelphia, located between New York and Washington D.C, is considered to be the birthplace of the United States. The Constitution was debated here in Philadelphia in what is now the Independence Hall. The nearby Liberty Bell Center is home to the famous two-thousand-pound bell which became a symbol of freedom. The National Constitution Center also tells the story of 1920s prohibition. Learn more about Al Capone and other famous former inmates at the Eastern State Penitentiary. The Philadelphia Museum of Art, one of the country's largest museums, is not to be missed. At Fairmount Park, discover outdoor art on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, as well as the Smith Memorial Arch dedicated to Civil War heroes. Attractions for kids include Philadelphia Zoo, the oldest zoo in America. Meet...

I was on a 2 wk solo trip, with private guide via JCTravel, to Ukraine in April 2017. On 2 of the days I took a 2 day overnight tour to Chernobyl. Two other people had signed up for the same 2 day overnight tour- you'll see them briefly in the video. We had a cute English speaking guide too. I brought my own personal radiation detectors with me: my "Inspector" and my "Polismart II". The Inspector reads Alpha, Beta, and Gamma and the Polismart just Gamma. The Polismart is always on and I had it in my carry-on camera bag on the flight over from Philadelphia to Kiev and its alarm went of while flying, think I was the only one who heard it, thank goodness. I actually got more radiation on the flight than I did in the 2 days at Chernobyl! There are some hotspots that we visit on the tour....

We met an American couple from Philadelphia (Courtney and Scott) and decided to travel with them for a few days. We shared beers in the evenings and a rental car during the day. The first half of the video is crazy for the following reasons: 1) Ashley is driving a 4x4 with a steering wheel on the right 2) We're driving on roads that are so steep that you need 4 wheel drive. 3) We have to honk going around corners because traffic goes both ways and there's only one lane. 4) In many places the road is either covered with a landslide, or collapsing because the dirt is washed out from under the pavement. The second half of the video is also crazy, but mostly for what happened off camera. We drove to a place with hiking trails, but when we got there it was closed. Everyone except for me wa...

The opioid crisis has become a national emergency. Overdose is now the leading cause of death for Americans under 50 -- worse than car crashes or gun violence. But the epidemic is more than just numbers. And to understand it, you have to go to the communities it's tearing apart. VICE News visits McPherson Square Park and Library in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. We meet a librarian who routinely revives dying addicts, a longtime resident who collects dozens of used syringes every day, and a former college athlete struggling with addiction. When we were planning trips we asked everyone if they had any idea of where they wanted to go, nearly everyone had mentioned Philadelphia so in early June we took Bedford, Castelluzzo, Houck, Simpson, and Wescott there to film and shoot an article with Walter Pieringer for Ride UK. When we were deciding who was going to film the project it was a no brainer. We knew that Navaz was a local and obviously one of the best filmers in the game. Acting as tour guide and filmer he went above and beyond and helped us navigate our way through the streets of the City of brotherly love. During our stay we got to meet a bunch of awesome people including Seth Stellfox. He was a Philadelphia Police officer as well as a BMX rider who made sure we were safe while we were riding in some fairly dangerous neig...
The Philadelphia Experiment was a military program reportedly carried out in the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard around October of 1943. It is alleged that naval destroyer USS Eldridge was rendered invisible, allowing it to be hidden from enemy devices. The experiment was based on the Unified Field Theory, a term coined by Albert Einstein. It states that by uniting the fields of electromagnetism with gravity, light will bend, along with space and time. Alfred Bielek, a scientist present on the decks of the Eldridge claims the ship was indeed sent back in time, although the U.S. Navy to this day still denies all allegations. In this version of "The Philadelphia Experiment", we travel back to 1997, a time when skateboarding was at its very best in Philadelphia. Featuring Mark Suciu, Ricky ...
Created for Philip Bloom’s Holiday Challenge. I have been filming skateboarding in Philadelphia for several years now. Since getting the 5D mkII last May, I have been shooting almost exclusively at night because of it’s low light capabilities. A large portion of my nights in 2010 have been spent shooting at LOVE Park and City Hall, which also happen to be beautifully decorated during the holidays.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOVE MOVE is a Philadelphia-based black liberation group founded by John Africa (born Vincent Leaphart) in 1972. The group lives communally and frequently engages in public demonstrations against racism, police brutality, and other issues. The group is particularly known for two major conflicts with the Philadelphia Police Department. In 1978, a standoff resulted in the death of one police officer, injuries to several other people and life sentences for nine members. In 1985, another standoff ended when a police helicopter dropped an bomb on their compound causing a fire, which was a row house in the middle of Osage Avenue. This killed eleven MOVE members, including five children. Fire destroyed 65 houses and prompted widespread news coverage.

Philadelphia celebrates its founder more than any other American city, but who exactly is William Penn? For many, he is a statue atop City Hall, but Penn's busy life reflected an era of chaotic upheaval and conflict. He is at once a radical Quaker, political prisoner, visionary city planner, absent landlord, and a slaveholder. His ideals, contradictions, and ambitions cast a long shadow across American history. This installment of Philadelphia: The Great Experiment explores what it means to live In Penn's Shadow. When they cut you, the blade went deep
You thought a blanket of silence would strengthen your feet
Then a name came out in prophecy
Still you were terrifier that name was truth
It's truth
Brother you must find which way to go
And with grace be bold
Just take your time
Take your time
And with grace be bold
Despite truth, the talk was cheap
You thought a princess with purpose was all that you'd need
Then a name came out in prophecy
He knew that growning fire
It came from you
Yes. you
Brother you must find which way to go
And with grace be bold
Just take your time
Take your time
And with grace be bold
The clouds will come but they're not gonna stop this love
The clouds will come
Now a hole would be something
No, I was still nothing
Brother you must find which way to go
And with grace be bold
Just take your time
Take your time
And with grace be bold
The clouds will come but they're not gonna stop this love
