The KLF (also known as The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, furthermore known as The JAMs, The Timelords and other names) were a British acid house band of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Beginning in 1987, Bill Drummond (alias King Boy D) and Jimmy Cauty (alias Rockman Rock) released hip hop-inspired and sample-heavy records as The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, and on one occasion (the British number one hit single "Doctorin' the Tardis") as The Timelords. The KLF released a series of international hits on their own KLF Communications record label, and became the biggest-selling singles act in the world for 1991. The duo also published a book, The Manual (How to Have a Number One the Easy Way), and worked on a road movie called The White Room.
From the outset, they adopted the philosophy espoused by esoteric novel series The Illuminatus! Trilogy, gaining notoriety for various anarchic situationist manifestations, including the defacement of billboard adverts, the posting of prominent cryptic advertisements in NME magazine and the mainstream press, and highly distinctive and unusual performances on Top of the Pops. Their most notorious performance was a collaboration with Extreme Noise Terror at the February 1992 BRIT Awards, where they fired machine gun blanks into the audience and dumped a dead sheep at the aftershow party. This performance announced The KLF's departure from the music business, and in May 1992 the duo deleted their entire back catalogue.
"Justified & Ancient" is a song by British band the KLF (Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty) which featured on their 1991 album The White Room but with origins dating back to the duo's debut album, 1987 (What the Fuck Is Going On?).
The song is best known for its remake that was released in November 1991 as a pop-house single subtitled "Stand by The JAMs", with verses featuring the vocals of American country music singer Tammy Wynette. This version was an international hit, reaching #2 on both the UK Singles Chart, and the U.S. dance charts, #11 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and hitting #1 in 18 countries.
Despite its success, "Justified & Ancient (Stand by the JAMs)" was the final release by the KLF through retail channels as well the second-to-last altogether release from the KLF (the last release being the mail-order only "3 a.m. Eternal") before Drummond and Cauty quit the music business and retired the KLF name.
The title "Justified & Ancient" refers to the KLF's pseudonym and earlier incarnation, "The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu" (The JAMs). The JAMs took their name from a fictional subversive cult from the 1970s conspiratorial novels The Illuminatus! Trilogy. Just as the fictional JAMs made it their remit to propagate chaos and confusion, so too did the real JAMs and the KLF. Their attempts to subvert the music industry and other establishments were frequent, unconcealed and controversial. The song "Justified & Ancient" is a statement of identity and rebellious intent. Moreover, it deliberately understates this intent. In contrast to the provocative and abrasive lyrics of the JAMs' album 1987 (What the Fuck Is Going On?), on which "Justified & Ancient" first appeared, the song has a soft and innocuous tune, and quaint lyrics:
Time Is is the final studio album recorded by The Idle Race. It was recorded in 1970 after Jeff Lynne had left the band. He was replaced by vocalist Dave Walker and guitarist Mike Hopkins.
"White Room" is a song by British rock band Cream, written by bassist Jack Bruce and poet Pete Brown.Drummer Ginger Baker claims to have added the distinctive 5/4 opening to what had been a 4/4 composition. It originally appeared on the US release of their double album Wheels of Fire in July 1968 and was released as a single in September 1968. It is one of their most famous songs, along with Sunshine of Your Love.
The single reached the top 30 in seven countries, including Australia, where it topped the Go-Set National Top 40 singles chart. The song was edited for the single release on AM radio stations, although album-oriented FM radio stations would play the full album version.
The recording of "White Room" reportedly began in July 1967 in London at the initial session for Cream’s as-yet-unnamed third album and work continued at Atlantic Studios in New York in December and finished during three separate sessions to complete the studio part of Wheels of Fire; February, April and June 1968, all at Atlantic Studios.
Last Train refers to a bid just below game level in the agreed suit. A Last Train bid is typically made in a bidding sequence in which one of the partners has already indicated slam interest.
A survey in the magazine The Bridge World showed a strong consensus approving the Last Train convention, with the following definition:
The convention was both devised by Jeff Meckstroth and named by him after the Monkees song "Last Train to Clarksville".
Because Last Train is a bidding convention with a special meaning under a partnership agreement, subject to National Regulatory Authority rules it must be alerted. In the absence of any partnership agreement, most players would interpret the Last Train bid as a control bid, showing a high card value in the suit named.
1♥ - 3♥
4♣ - 4♦
The 4♣ bid shows a club control and slam interest. If the partnership has agreed to use Last Train, the 4♦ bid indicates extra values (i.e., responder's hand is at the upper end of the strength range indicated by the 3♥ bid), and invites partner to continue exploring slam. 4♦ does not show a diamond control, although of course responder might have one.

The KLF - Stadium House Trilogy - In HD. Released on VHS back in 1991, this is "live" footage of The KLF performing 3 A.M. Eternal, Last Train to Trancentral, and What Time Is Love? There are several uploads of this on YouTube, but this one is somewhat better quality since I reedited it in HD with added sharpness and contrast and fixed the audio. Enjoy one of the most Underrated bands of the early 1990's.

Infamous appearance at the 1992 Brit Awards by The KLF
"3 a.m. Eternal" is a song by the British acid house group The KLF. Numerous versions of the song were released as singles between 1989 and 1992. In January 1991, an acid house pop version of the song became an international top ten hit single, reaching number-one in the UK Singles Chart and number 5 in the US Billboard Hot 100, and leading to The KLF becoming the internationally biggest-selling singles band of 1991. When, the following year, The KLF accepted an invitation to perform at the BRIT Awards ceremony, they caused controversy with a succession of anti-establishment gestures that included a duet performance of "3 a.m. Eternal" with the crust punk band Extreme Noise Terror, during which The KLF co-founder Bill Drummond fired machine-gun blanks over the audience of music industry lu...
"Last Train to Trancentral" is a song released, in different mixes, as a series of singles by The KLF, including "Last Train to Trancentral (Live from the Lost Continent)", a commercially successful single of April 1991 that reached # 2 in the UK Singles Chart and achieved international top ten placings. "Last Train to Trancentral" is a central song within The KLF's work, and is distinctive for an uplifting string-orchestrated break. "Last Train to Trancentral" is related to The KLF's unreleased earlier tracks "E-Train to Trancentral" and, from the 1989 soundtrack to their film The White Room, "Go to Sleep". Both the film and the soundtrack were abandoned in 1989, due to spiralling costs and the commercial failure of the soundtrack single "Kylie Said to Jason". However, much of the musica...
THE RITES OF MU. THE KLF HAVE INVITED YOU TO JOIN THEM IN CELEBRATING THE RITES OF MU THIS SUMMER SOLSTICE, DURING WHICH THE FALL OF MANKIND MAY BE REVERSED, RETURNING HIM TO THE GARDEN WHERE THE REST OF CREATION WAITS. Teenage Fanclub’s latest album “Shadows” has been steadily growing on us, and it was a treat to receive a three song DVD from their Rockpalast performance in December 2010, which includes the excellent new track “When I Still Have Thee”. When they stopped in to the Jimmy Fallon show back in September of that year, they played the first single from the record, the gorgeous “Baby Lee”, another Norman Blake penned tune. It’s worth remembering that, in addition to churning out flawless twee power pop, these Scottish melody craftsmen also know how to rock, as evidenced on “Pet Rock”, recorded for the Dennis Miller show in 1992, and taken from their magnificent third album Bandwagonesque. British Sea Power have a thing for playing odd locations, a practice they continued last week when the Brigh...

This is the North American release of The KLF's The White Room album, released by Arista Records, which included the Stand By The JAMs single. Very unconventional duo. Despite being the best-selling band of 1991, they made a complete mockery of the music industry, including performing a grindcore cover of their song "3 a.m. Eternal" with Extreme Noise Terror at the Febuary 1992 BRIT Awards - all while firing machine gun blanks at the audience, and burning a million quid with the leftover money after their "retirement," recording the entire process. I really liked the album though, even if I'm part of the demographic Cauty and Drummond were laughing about.

On 23rd August 1994, Bill Drummond & Jimmy Cauty (a.k.a. The K Foundation, The KLF, The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, The JAMS etc) travelled to the Scottish island of Jura with 1 million pounds of their own money. In a small, deserted boathouse on Jura they burned the lot. All that they asked was that you know about it. This documentary was spliced together by YFY on Xmas Day 2012 as a gift to friends. Hopefully it helps paint the bigger picture surrounding the duo. It is by no means the complete story, but should provoke interest to learn more. Here we come...
Here we come
crawling out of the mud
from chaos primevil to the barnyard sun
dragging our bad selves from one end of time
with nothing to declare but some half written rhymes
we're happy and dire, confused and depressed
the songs that we sing are the songs of the blessed
with flowers to pick
and blood on our hands
who or what I'll help you understand
Hey hey we're the Monkees
What?
Hey hey
Hey hey hey
What? What's going on?
Hey hey hey Hey hey hey
We're not the Monkees
Hey hey we're the Monkees
we're not the monkeys
we don't even like the monkeys
Have I ever liked the Monkees?
