Army Discharged Charlottesville Suspect James A. Fields After Basic Training

The white supremacist charged with killing a protester in Charlottesville didn't make it past basic training in the U.S. Army, a spokesperson told The Daily Beast on Sunday. James A. Fields reported for basic training in August 2015. “He was, however, released from active duty due to a failure to meet training standards in December of 2015,” Army Lt. Col. Jennifer Johnson said. “As a result he was never awarded a military occupational skill nor was he assigned to a unit outside of basic training.”

Pence Slams Media for Criticizing Trump’s Response to Charlottesville

Vice President Mike Pence stood up for President Trump on Sunday night amid mounting criticism of the president’s response to recent violence in Charlottesville. With many questioning why the president did not explicitly condemn white supremacists after Saturday’s “pro-white” rally ended in bloodshed, Pence defended Trump’s remarks on the incident as “sincere” and “from the heart.” “President Trump clearly and unambiguously condemned the bigotry, violence, and hatred which took place on the streets of Charlottesville,” he said during a visit to Colombia. “I will say I take issue with the fact that many in the national media spent more time criticizing the president’s words than they did criticizing those that perpetrated the violence to begin with,” he said. “We should be putting the attention where it belongs,” he said, denouncing “extremist groups” and stressing that the White House has “no tolerance for hate and violence from white supremacists, neo-Nazis, or the KKK.”

GoDaddy Says It Is Giving Neo-Nazi Website The Daily Stormer the Boot

Internet company GoDaddy says it is giving neo-Nazi website The Daily Stormer the boot after months of criticism for providing the site with a domain name. The final straw seems to have been a post published Sunday in which the white supremacist site used obscene language to mock a woman killed following a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville on Saturday. Heather Heyer, a 32-year-old paralegal, was mowed down by an alleged white supremacist following a violent “pro-white” rally. The incident is under investigation by the Justice Department as a possible hate crime. GoDaddy has yet to provide further details on its decision to evict The Daily Stormer, but said on Twitter the neo-Nazi site had been given “24 hours to move the domain to another provider, as they have violated our terms of service.” GoDaddy reportedly served as the website’s domain name registrar through its subsidiary, Domains by Proxy, for four years, having previously dismissed concerns over the site’s racist and anti-Semitic content.
