Plot: Ghosts of Les Cherise is an intense, paranoid, psychological thriller held against the backdrop of World War II. Set in southern France, in the late stages of Operation Cobra, Ghosts of Les Cherise tells the story of Lieutenant Moorley, an untested officer, fresh off the boat and naive to the horrors of war. We meet him at the beginning of a brief skirmish that marks his first experience with real violence. After the conflict the novice lieutenant finds himself left behind to guard a strategically important bridge. In charge for the first time in his life, Moorley must learn to deal with a first sergeant of questionable mental stability, and a disturbingly Machiavellian second sergeant. The lieutenant is just beginning to come to terms with his command when the Germans attack; though he is victorious in battle, all of the rations are destroyed, most of the ammunition is spent, and worst of all, he loses the majority of his men. Struggling with his own fears, and the guilt of surviving when so many under him did not, Moorley attempts to maintain control, both over his men, and over his own mind. We find reality and perception increasingly difficult to distinguish, but it is not until the last moments of the film that we come to understand the true meaning of all that has transpired, and the true nature of the battle that lieutenant Moorley has been waging.
