Hacker Leaks ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Episodes, Other HBO Series

6 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The weeks-long standoff between HBO and a hacker intent on extracting money from the Time Warner-owned cable network intensified Sunday with the leak of several episodes of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” as well as other series.

The Larry David-fronted comedy series wasn’t scheduled to return to TV until October. But in a statement issued Sunday after the hacker’s dumping, the network did not indicate it would yield to pressure tactics.

”We are not in communication with the hacker and we’re not going to comment every time a new piece of information is released,” the network said in a statement. “It has been widely reported that there was a cyber incident at HBO. The hacker may continue to drop bits and pieces of stolen information in an attempt to generate media attention. That’s a game we’re not going to participate in. Obviously, no company wants their proprietary information stolen and released on the »

'Annabelle' Sequel Shines as Summer 2017 Box Office Continues to Fade

13 hours ago | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

It's a great weekend for Warner Bros. which saw Annabelle: Creation, the latest installment in the Conjuring franchise, top the box office with $35 million while Dunkirk topped $150 million domestically. However, fellow new releases struggled to give the box office much of a jolt as the top twelve brought in a combined $103.8 million, down 6% compared to last weekend and the fourth lowest weekend of 2017. Overall, the summer movie season is still down 12% compared to last year. With an estimated $35 million, Annabelle: Creation opened at the top of the weekend box office, delivering nearly $24 million more than the weekend runner-up. This is the fourth feature in the Conjuring franchise which continues to deliver each time out. Carrying a budget of just $15 million this is also a great outing for director David F. Sandberg whose Lights Out performed very well for WB just last year, bringing in $67.2 million on a $5 million budget, and »

David Tennant on Jodie Whittaker’s ‘Doctor Who’ Casting: ‘I Can’t Think of Someone Better to Join the Gang’

9 hours ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Reactions to Jodie Whittaker being cast as the 13th Doctor have been largely positive. As the first woman to lead the long-running “Doctor Who” franchise, however, she’s had to endure exactly the kind of backlash that is part and parcel of such events. David Tennant — the 10th Doctor and a castmate of Whittaker’s on “Broadchurch” — doubled down on his praise during an appearance on “The Late Show,” calling her casting “brilliant. I can’t think of someone better to join the gang and be poised to take it to a whole new level. It’s great.”

“Whenever the Doctor changes there’s a backlash because that’s a character that people love, so people get very affectionate about the Doctor they knew,” he added. Tennant is in a unique position to comment on this, »

‘Orphan Black’ Finale Reveals the Total Number of Clones

12 August 2017 8:00 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched “To Right the Wrongs of Many,” the series finale of “Orphan Black.”

It started with two. When “Orphan Black” first premiered in 2013, there were two women at the center of the pilot episode’s inciting incident. Sarah Manning (Tatiana Maslany) sees her double meticulously take off her shoes, set down her bag, and step off the train platform to commit suicide. Sarah then takes over that woman’s life for a time before learning that one doppelganger is quaint, but in reality, she has almost a dozen, who are clones of her and her twin sister Helena (Maslany).

Though the heart of the show was #CloneClub, and that included anyone who was on the side of the clones, helping them to get to the bottom of what was going on at the Dyad Institute and later helping to stop P.T »

Luc Besson Says That Captain America Is ‘Propaganda’: ‘It’s Always Here to Show the Supremacy of America’

11 hours ago | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Luc Besson isn’t the biggest fan of superhero movies. The “Valerian” director, who’s previously said that he finds it difficult to relate to such characters, went further in a CinePop interview by calling Captain America “propaganda” that’s uniquely American — and not in a good way. Watch the full discussion below.

“What bothers me most is it’s always here to show the supremacy of America and how they are great,” he said. “I mean, which country in the world would have the guts to call a film ‘Captain Brazil’ or ‘Captain France’? I mean, no one! We would be like so ashamed and say, ‘No, no, come on, we can’t do that.’ They can. They can call it ‘Captain America’ and everybody think it’s normal. »

Film investors’ fear of the Bard is burying my Richard II, says James Ivory

Veteran director claims financiers think he’s crazy for attempting Shakespeare adaptation

He directed Merchant-Ivory classics such as The Remains of the Day, Howards End and A Room with a View, but American director James Ivory is struggling to interest investors in his latest project. The problem, it seems, lies with his writer: William Shakespeare. For more than five years, Ivory has tried in vain to raise money for a cinema adaptation of Richard II.

Despite 50 years of critical acclaim and Oscar recognition, plus British actors Tom Hiddleston and Damian Lewis lined up to star in his production, financiers are refusing to part with their money. “They look at you like you’re crazy,” he said. “There is an assumption that there is no money to be made from such an investment.”

‘Twin Peaks': Meet Jake Wardle, Whose Accent Nearly Stole Part 14

Major spoilers ahead for “Twin Peaks: The Return” up to Part 14. It’s hard to steal a scene in a “Twin Peaks” installment, especially after everything that happened in Part 14. But Freddie Sykes, played by newcomer Jake Wardle, somehow managed to do just that. And it’s partially thanks to YouTube. Wardle has no other professional credits to his name. However, purveyors of viral YouTube videos may recognize him as Truseneye92, who achieved low-key online fame in 2010 when he showed off the English language in 24 accents. At the time of this writing, the video has over 27 million views. Wardle never. »

(Warning: This post contains major spoilers for “Game of Thrones” through the Aug. 13 episode.)
