The European Organization for Nuclear Research (French: Organisation européenne pour la recherche nucléaire), known as CERN (/ˈsɜːrn/; French pronunciation: [sɛʁn]; derived from the name "Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire"; see History), is a European research organization that operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world. Established in 1954, the organization is based in a northwest suburb of Geneva on the Franco–Swiss border, (46°14′3″N 6°3′19″E / 46.23417°N 6.05528°E / 46.23417; 6.05528) and has 21 member states.Israel is the first (and currently only) non-European country granted full membership.
The term CERN is also used to refer to the laboratory, which in 2013 had 2,513 staff members, and hosted some 12,313 fellows, associates, apprentices as well as visiting scientists and engineers representing 608 universities and research facilities.
CERN's main function is to provide the particle accelerators and other infrastructure needed for high-energy physics research – as a result, numerous experiments have been constructed at CERN as a result of international collaborations.
The Ivory Coast national football team (French: Équipe de Côte d'Ivoire de football), nicknamed Les Éléphants (The Elephants), represents Ivory Coast in international football and is controlled by the Fédération Ivoirienne de Football (FIF). Until 2005, their greatest accomplishment was winning the 1992 African Cup of Nations against Ghana on penalties at the Stade Leopold Senghor in Dakar, Senegal. Their second success came in the 2015 edition, again beating Ghana on penalties at the Estadio de Bata in Bata, Equatorial Guinea.
The team has qualified for three consecutive World Cups; however, it has never advanced beyond the group stage.
Ivory Coast has produced several notable players who have played in Europe, including Didier Drogba, Yaya Touré, Emmanuel Eboué, Wilfried Bony, Seydou Doumbia, Gervinho, Serge Aurier, Salomon Kalou and Kolo Touré. The team is generally considered to be one of the best teams to come from Africa.

Visiting CERN in Geneva, Switzerland has been one of my biggest dreams the past decade thus I was extremely pleased being able to obtain a couple of rare tickets for a private tour at the facility. CERN runs the largest particle physics laboratory in the world covering 200 hectares, almost 5 times the size of central park in new york definitely worth a visit when you are in the area and these are my 4 reasons. After obtaining the passes, our guide toured us around the facility briefly explaining the purpose and functionalities of the specific buildings. We even entered the ATLAS particle detector building where we were able to observe the science team monitor the system stats on giant projector screens. The second facility had a historic machine called the synchro-cyclotron where the f...

James Beacham is a experimental high-energy particle physicist with the ATLAS Collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, where he sifts through the largest unique dataset in human history looking for exotic Higgs bosons, dark photons, gravitons, dark matter, extra dimensions, quantum black holes, and answers to the most baffling open questions of science. He is currently a post-doc with the Ohio State University. He did his PhD at New York University. He lives in Geneva and misses bagels back home in New York. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn...
