H. Scott Salinas

H. Scott Salinas is an American composer and musician.

Biography

Playing guitar since the age of twelve, Salinas began his music career on the small island of St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands. Scott soon became known as an accomplished sideman and toured the island in reggae and blues bands. In 1993, Scott left his island home to major in music at Princeton University. At Princeton, Scott discovered jazz and classical music, turning his whole musical world upside down. He scored three short films including the all-guitar psychological thriller Kentucky Motel, and completed a 20-minute mini-opera that debuted at a concert heralding classical greats Yo-Yo Ma (cello) and Edgar Meyer (bass), and Pulitzer Prize–winning author Toni Morrison.

After graduating from Princeton Magna Cum Laude in 1997, Scott continued his education at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he concentrated in film scoring and honed his jazz guitar skills. In the summer of 2000, he was awarded the prestigious Berklee College of Music Segue Internship Award. This included a scholarship for his final semester at Berklee and an all-expenses paid trip to Los Angeles for a month-long internship at Segue Music, the largest film music editing company in Hollywood. At Segue, Scott had the unique opportunity to work with world-renowned composers and directors, sealing his decision to forge a career in scoring for film.

Motion Picture Soundtrack

Motion Picture Soundtrack are a British alternative rock quartet from Canterbury, Kent. Since their inception, the band has been composed of Alastair Blackwood (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Nick Watts (lead guitar, backing vocals), Graeme Blackwood (drums, percussion and backing vocals), and Will Hasler (bass).

The name comes the band's love of film soundtracks, not, as many people assume, from the track by Radiohead. They cite influences such as Thomas Newman, Craig Armstrong, and alternative acts such as Sigur Rós, Talk Talk, Cocteau Twins, Jeff Buckley and Massive Attack.

Motion Picture Soundtrack self-released their first studio album The Shapes We Fear Are Of Our Own on March 1, 2010,.

Produced by Paul Schroder (The Stone Roses, The Verve) in Copenhagen, the band returned to London to mix the record with engineer Cenzo Townshend (U2, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Florence and the Machine, Snow Patrol) at Olympic Studios.

Motion Picture Soundtrack released their debut single Departure on September 7, 2009, reaching No. 6 in Total Guitar Magazine's top download charts, with the follow-up Glass Figures (#10 in TG's top download charts) on February 22, 2010. The album The Shapes We Fear Are Of Our Own was released on March 1, 2010. The band were invited on March 29 to the BBC's Maida Vale Studios for a live session. and winning the Emerging Talent DIY Award at Camden Crawl and performing at the Reading & Leeds festival 2010 courtesy of the BBC Introducing stage.

Film

A film, also called a movie, motion picture or photoplay, is a series of still images which, when shown on a screen, creates the illusion of moving images due to the phi phenomenon. This optical illusion causes the audience to perceive continuous motion between separate objects viewed rapidly in succession. A film is created by photographing actual scenes with a motion picture camera; by photographing drawings or miniature models using traditional animation techniques; by means of CGI and computer animation; or by a combination of some or all of these techniques and other visual effects. The word "cinema", short for cinematography, is often used to refer to the industry of films and filmmaking or to the art of filmmaking itself. The contemporary definition of cinema is the art of simulating experiences to communicate ideas, stories, perceptions, feelings, beauty or atmosphere by the means of recorded or programmed moving images along with other sensory stimulations.

The process of filmmaking is both an art and an industry.

Divinity

In religious terms, divinity or godhead is the state of things that come from a supernatural power or deity, such as a god, supreme being, Creator-God or spirits, and are therefore regarded as sacred and holy. Such things are regarded as "divine" due to their transcendental origins, and/or because their attributes or qualities are superior or supreme relative to things of the Earth. Divine things are regarded as eternal and based in truth, while material things are regarded as ephemeral and based in illusion. Such things that may qualify as "divine" are apparitions, visions, prophecies, miracles, and in some views also the soul, or more general things like resurrection, immortality, grace, and salvation. Otherwise what is or is not divine may be loosely defined, as it is used by different belief systems.

The root of the word "divine" is literally "godly" (from the Latin deus, cf. Dyaus, closely related to Greek zeus, div in Persian and deva in Sanskrit), but the use varies significantly depending on which deity is being discussed. José Cancela

José Carlos Cancela Durán (born June 25, 1976 in Santa Lucía, Uruguay) is a Uruguayan soccer player who plays attacking midfielder for A.D. Belén in Costa Rica. He is nicknamed "Pepe".

Before joining the Colorado Rapids, Cancela played the preseason with Toronto FC but was traded to the Denver-based club the day before the regular season began. Cancela played for Peñarol, Cruz Azul, Deportivo Saprissa, and the New England Revolution. He had to leave Saprissa, despite being loved by their fans, because of the rule implemented by the "Morados" after 2003, by which they could only use Costa Rican players in their team.

Cancela joined the Revolution in July 2003, and immediately added an attacking flair not often seen in MLS. He immediately slotted into the starting lineup, and finished the season with a goal and seven assists in 13 games. Cancela struggled a little in his second year, as Clint Dempsey emerged as a competitor for the attacking midfield position, but finished the year with three goals and ten assists in 25 games. He scored two goals and five assists in 2005.
