Rio Rancho (Spanish: Río Rancho) is the largest city and economic hub of Sandoval County in the U.S. state of New Mexico. A small portion of the city extends into northern Bernalillo County. It is the third-largest and also one of the fastest expanding cities in New Mexico. As of the 2010 census, Rio Rancho had a population of 87,521, a 69% rise from 2000. In 2012, the city had an estimated population of 90,818.
Rio Rancho is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The Rio Rancho area was originally part of the Alameda Grant, which was founded by the Spanish in 1710. By the early twentieth century, much of the land grant had been sold to land investment companies. Amrep Corporation purchased 55,000 acres (22,000 ha) in 1961 and turned the land into a housing development called "Rio Rancho Estates" with the first families moving in the early 1960s. Most of these early residents were New Yorkers, as the developers advertised heavily in New York media. The population grew tenfold between 1970 and 1980, and the City of Rio Rancho was incorporated in 1981. The opening of a large Intel Corporation plant in 1981 had a major economic impact on the city.

The City of Vision is an exciting place to be. At the Hewlett-Packard groundbreaking in January 2009, Mayor Tom Swisstack stated that there would be a crane present in the Central Business District (CBD) all year long, which held true for 2009. As of June 2010, with the opening of HP, the spring opening of the University of New Mexico's first facility, and the current erection of the Central New Mexico Community College facility, development within the CBD has continued into the 2010 calendar year. Other major construction projects near or leading into the CBD include the completion of V. Sue Cleveland High School, The UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center teaching hospital (groundbreaking expected summer 2010), and the completion of the two-lane Paseo del Volcan to U.S. Highway 550 (schedu...

Chronic illness can shatter a person's life and the lives of the caregivers that surround and love them. Cazandra Campos-MacDonald knows all too well what it is like as she cares for two sons with severe hemophilia and inhibitors. Her talk is a reflection of her struggles to maintain hope while in the midst of the chaos that a bleeding disorder may bring. As she cared for her youngest son through an extremely difficult season, life seemed hopeless as she began to lose her identity. The Village of Corrales is a small, treasured oasis located within a large, fast-growing metropolitan area. The village is bordered on the east by the Rio Grande and, across the river, by the Sandia Indian Reservation. To the south is the City of Albuquerque while to the west and north is the City of Rio Rancho. The greater metropolitan area numbers well over a half million people, but Corrales, about 7300 in population, aggressively strives to retain a rural lifestyle. Prehistoric sites indicate the Corrales Valley has been occupied as early as 500 A.D. when the ancestors of the present-day Indian Pueblos derived sustenance from the fertile valley. Subsequent populations, including Hispanic, European and American families, settled here to raise grapes, apples, and livestock. Today, Corral...
