RIO RANCHO, NEW MEXICO — Police have arrested a person who they believe is connected to the shooting of an on-duty police officer Monday night in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
Shortly after 8 p.m., a Rio Rancho police officer pulled over a man and a woman in a 1999 Dodge Durango. The suspects fled and wound up in the parking lot of the Esther Bone Memorial Library according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department.
Police say someone called out "officer shot" over the radio and witness described hearing four gunshots and seeing a man giving CPR to the officer and a woman was sitting on the curb next to them.
"There was four shots, just went pop, pop, pop, pop—four real quick shots. And I was looking that direction, you know right away... it's like, where's it coming from, and then I looked a little bit closer to me, and then that's when I saw the actual person giving him CPR and some dude laying on the ground," 15-year-old Elijah Ortiz Y Pino said to KOB-TV.
The officer was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the Rio Rancho Police Department confirmed early Tuesday morning.
Police have yet to release the name of the police officer, but said he was 49-years-old and a married father-of-five. He had been a police officer for four years and also an Air Force veteran.
No further details have been released and the Rio Rancho Police Department said this is the first time an officer has been shot and killed in the line of duty in the department's history.

Rio Rancho, New Mexico
Rio Rancho (Spanish: Río Rancho) is the largest city and economic hub of Sandoval County in the U.S. state of New Mexico. A small portion of the city extends into northern Bernalillo County. It is the third-largest and also one of the fastest expanding cities in New Mexico. As of the 2010 census, Rio Rancho had a population of 87,521, a 69% rise from 2000. In 2012, the city had an estimated population of 90,818.
Rio Rancho is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
The Rio Rancho area was originally part of the Alameda Grant, which was founded by the Spanish in 1710. By the early twentieth century, much of the land grant had been sold to land investment companies. Amrep Corporation purchased 55,000 acres (22,000 ha) in 1961 and turned the land into a housing development called "Rio Rancho Estates" with the first families moving in the early 1960s. Most of these early residents were New Yorkers, as the developers advertised heavily in New York media. The population grew tenfold between 1970 and 1980, and the City of Rio Rancho was incorporated in 1981. The opening of a large Intel Corporation plant in 1981 had a major economic impact on the city.

Shortly after 8 p.m., a Rio Rancho police officer pulled over a man and a woman in a 1999 Dodge Durango. The suspects fled and wound up in the parking lot of the Esther Bone Memorial Library according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department.
Police say someone called out “officer shot” over the radio and witness described hearing four gunshots and seeing a man giving CPR to the officer and a woman was sitting on the curb next to them.
“There was four shots, just went pop, pop, pop, pop—four real quick shots. And I was looking that direction, you know right away... it's like, where's it coming from, and then I looked a little bit closer to me, and then that's when I saw the actual person giving him CPR and some dude laying on the ground,” 15-year-old Elijah Ortiz Y Pino said to KOB-TV.
The officer was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the Rio Rancho Police Department confirmed early Tuesday morning.
Police have yet to release the name of the police officer, but said he was 49-years-old and a married father-of-five. He had been a police officer for four years and also an Air Force veteran.

Police have arrested a person who they believe is connected to the shooting of an on-duty police officer Monday night in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

Rio Rancho student dies of H1N1
right now the district isn't saying much about the child because of privacy laws. meanwhile... the health department tells us a rio rancho elementary student has died... but they can't confirm it was h- 1-n-1 related because test results aren't back yet. they suspect that's the cause.. we have learned the victim is a girl.. her father is a school district employee according to emails sent among district staff we received. so far, the health department has confirmed five h1-n1 deaths in new mexico. four of them had medical conditions. but a 21-year-old los alamos county woman who died of the virus was healthy.

Rio Rancho New Mexico's first full service hospital is open! Presbyterian Rust Medical Center is holding a huge grand opening party for the community Saturday October 22nd, but they have already performed over 20 surgeries, have one patient recovering in their new 68 bed patient tower, and the city's first hospital born baby was delivered there on Wednesday. We were fortunate enough to attend a special pre-opening event co-hosted by the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce and received the grand tour. The building is stupendous, with lots of natural light throughout, large comfortable patient rooms with a convertible couch/bed for family stay overs, and enough high tech to make NASA... Sandoval County comprises the northern section of the Albuquerque MSA and encompasses 3,716 square miles of diverse geography and people. It includes the incorporated municipalities of Bernalillo, Cuba, Corrales, Jemez Springs, Rio Rancho and San Ysidro, numerous unincorporated communities, the chartered community of Cochiti Lake, all or portions of nine Indian pueblos, three Navajo Chapters and part of the Jicarilla Apache Reservation. The municipalities of Rio Rancho, Bernalillo, and Corrales all border each other in Southern Sandoval.

Rankings: In 2010, RIo Rancho was named the 51st Best Place to Live by Money Magazine. Rio Rancho was named the "Best Place to Raise Kids in New Mexico" for 2009 and 2010. In April 2008, RIo Rancho was named "Best Place to Live and Launch" by Fortune Small Business Magazine. Education: Rio Rancho has an educated population with approximately 25 percent of its citizens holding a Graduate, Bachelor or Associates Degree; at least 91 percent have high school diplomas. As a community, Rio Rancho values education. The school district is considered among the best in the state with a state-of-the-art high school that focuses on technology-related programs. A second high school has been built on a 150-acre campus east of the City's Central Business District. The presence of Intel in the community also draws a highly-educated trailing spouse population.

RIO RANCHO, NEW MEXICO — Police have arrested a person who they believe is connected to the shooting of an on-duty police officer Monday night in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
Shortly after 8 p.m., a Rio Rancho police officer pulled over a man and a woman in a 1999 Dodge Durango. The suspects fled and wound up in the parking lot of the Esther Bone Memorial Library according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department.
Police say someone called out "officer shot" over the radio and witness described hearing four gunshots and seeing a man giving CPR to the officer and a woman was sitting on the curb next to them.
"There was four shots, just went pop, pop, pop, pop—four real quick shots. And I was looking that direction, you know right away... it's like, where's it coming from, and then I looked a little bit closer to me, and then that's when I saw the actual person giving him CPR and some dude laying on the ground," 15-year-old Elijah Ortiz Y Pino said to KOB-TV.
The officer was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the Rio Rancho Police Department confirmed early Tuesday morning.
Police have yet to release the name of the police officer, but said he was 49-years-old and a married father-of-five. He had been a police officer for four years and also an Air Force veteran.
No further details have been released and the Rio Rancho Police Department said this is the first time an officer has been shot and killed in the line of duty in the department's history.

Chronic illness can shatter a person's life and the lives of the caregivers that surround and love them. Cazandra Campos-MacDonald knows all too well what it is like as she cares for two sons with severe hemophilia and inhibitors. Her talk is a reflection of her struggles to maintain hope while in the midst of the chaos that a bleeding disorder may bring. As she cared for her youngest son through an extremely difficult season, life seemed hopeless as she began to lose her identity. To discover meaning throughout the challenges of illness may seem impossible, but Cazandra learned that hope was a choice she had to make, and it lives in the places you would least expect.
Cazandra Campos-MacDonald is an educator by choice and an advocate by chance. She speaks across the country at events directed to families with bleeding disorders. Her writing includes a personal blog, a second blog specifically chronicling the journey of her two sons with hemophilia and inhibitors, and articles and blog posts written for various other publications. She is passionate about sharing her life, from the joys and fortunate experiences to the sorrow and heartbreak. She also shares from the depths of her heart to families of children with chronic illnesses to live in hope and not fear. Cazandra’s older brother died from complications to the same disorder as an infant. Her family lives in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She serves as a patient advocate and holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Houston Baptist University.

City of Rio Rancho turns 35
The City of Rio Rancho formed as a retirement community called Rio Rancho Estates in the early 1960s and was incorporated as a municipality on February 23, 1981. 2016 marks the 35th anniversary of its incorporation and the City will honor its early and current residents, elected officials, and staff, who have participated in making Rio Rancho the thriving community it is today, with a year of special recognition. The City of Rio Rancho has a tremendous public school system, state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, outstanding public safety, a variety of recreational and quality-of-life amenities that residents of all ages and abilities enjoy, is known as a great place to live and raise a family, and as a city in which its residents take great pride.

He also bought a 1918 Model T Ford that had been made into a pickup from a touring car the same year in Raton. Gab's passion for vintage and antique automobiles has grow ever since and has resulted in a collection of more than 70 cars and trucks. These vehicles range in age from circa 1907-1966. Some are fully restored, while others retain their original paint, upholstery and motor grease. Step through the entrance to the main showroom and you will be swept away to a time when cars came with tool kits and people on cross-country drives wore goggles and brought along their mechanics. The museum also serves as a way station for the Great Race, a coast-to-coast event exclusively for vintage autos.
