The Matterhorn (German: Matterhorn [ˈmatərˌhɔrn], Italian: Monte Cervino [ˈmonte tʃerˈviːno], French: Mont Cervin [mɔ̃ sɛʁvɛ̃]) is a mountain of the Alps, straddling the main watershed and border between Switzerland and Italy. It is a huge and near-symmetrical pyramidal peak in the Monte Rosa area of the Pennine Alps, whose summit is 4,478 metres (14,692 ft) high, making it one of the highest summits in the Alps and Europe. The four steep faces, rising above the surrounding glaciers, face the four compass points and are split by the Hörnli, Furggen, Leone and Zmutt ridges. The mountain overlooks the Swiss town of Zermatt in the canton of Valais to the north-east and the Italian town of Breuil-Cervinia in the Aosta Valley to the south. Just east of the Matterhorn is Theodul Pass, the main passage between the two valleys on its north and south sides and a trade route since the Roman Era.
The Matterhorn was studied by Horace-Bénédict de Saussure in the late eighteenth century, who was followed by other renowned naturalists and artists such as John Ruskin in the nineteenth century. Remaining still unclimbed after most of the other great Alpine peaks were climbed, the Matterhorn became the subject of an international competition for the summit. The first ascent of the Matterhorn was finally made in 1865 from Zermatt by a party led by Edward Whymper but ended disastrously when four of its members fell to their deaths on the descent. That climb and disaster, portrayed in several films, marked the end of the golden age of alpinism. The north face was not climbed until 1931, and is amongst the three biggest north faces of the Alps, known as the ‘The Trilogy’. The west face, which is the highest of the four, was completely climbed only in 1962. It is estimated that over 500 alpinists have died on the Matterhorn since the first climb in 1865, making it one of the deadliest peaks in the world.
Red Bull is an energy drink sold by Austrian company Red Bull GmbH, created in 1987. In terms of market share, Red Bull is the highest-selling energy drink in the world, with 5.387 billion cans sold in 2013.
Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz was inspired by an existing energy drink named Krating Daeng, which was first invented and sold in Thailand. He took this idea, modified the ingredients to suit the tastes of Westerners, and, in partnership with Chaleo Yoovidhya, founded Red Bull GmbH in 1987 in Chakkapong, Thailand. In Thai, daeng means red, and krating is the large bovine called "gaur". Red Bull is sold in a tall and slim blue-silver can, while Krating Daeng is in a gold shorter can. The two are different products, produced separately.
The Red Bull company slogan is "Red Bull gives you wings", and the product is marketed through advertising, events (Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, Red Bull Air Race, Red Bull Crashed Ice), sports team ownerships (RB Leipzig, FC Red Bull Salzburg, Red Bull Brasil, New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Racing, Scuderia Toro Rosso), celebrity endorsements, and music, through its record label Red Bull Records.
The Matterhorn Bobsleds is an attraction composed of two intertwining steel roller coasters, which opened in 1959 at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. It is modeled after the Matterhorn, a mountain in the Swiss Alps. It is the first tubular steel continuous track roller coaster ever constructed and thus an ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts) Coaster Landmark.
Located on the border between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland (see below), it employs forced perspective to seem more impressively large. Throughout the day, climbers dressed in Swiss mountain-climbing garb may be seen scaling the peak, often accompanied by Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse and Goofy.
Climbing the Matterhorn is a 1947 American short documentary film directed by Irving Allen. It won an Academy Award at the 20th Academy Awards in 1948 for Best Short Subject (Two-Reel).

August 27, 2016 - beautiful blue skies and a great day for climbing!
A very detailed film of the Matterhorn set in 3 parts. Part 1 starts at 4:31 features the climb from the Hornli Hut to the Solvay Hut. Part 2 starts at 13:01 follows the climb from the Solvay Hut to the Summit. Part 3 begins at 31:32 and follows the descent from the Summit to the Hornli Hut. The actual climb was an 8 hour round trip (4 hours from Hornli Hut to Summit and 4 hours descent) crammed into just under 50 minutes. This video while it seems rather long in duration, its main purpose is to inform clients who wish to climb one of the most iconic peaks on the planet safely. I would like to thank Icicle Mountaineering for their impeccable logistical support and for putting together an incredible course which has enabled me to fulfill a dream. More adventure? We've got you covered: http://win.gs/1YPLINU Straddling the border between Switzerland and Italy, The Matterhorn it's one of the three great north faces of the Alps, its jagged edges tracing to a sharp point in the sky. While laypeople may only know it from the packaging of Toblerone chocolate bars, the Matterhorn has an illustrious history, particularly the stunning north face. Another milestone has now been entered into its timeline, as Swiss mountaineer Dani Arnold has set a blazingly fast new record on the route, reaching the summit in only 1 hour 46 minutes, shaving a full 10 minutes off Ueli Steck's record, set in 2009. See highlights of the climb in the video above. It's considered to be one of the riskiest climbs in the Alps. In fact, the Matterhorn is one of the ...

Watch Herve's short film, "Matterhorn Obsession", that commemorates the Matterhorn’s anniversary and how for him, it is the only mountain worth climbing more than once. July 14th, 2015 marks the 150th anniversary of the first ascent of the Matterhorn - the renowned mountain in the Alps straddling the border between Italy and Switzerland which has captured imaginations of explorers around the world. In the countless narratives of fearless ambitions, earned successes, and heroic failures on the Matterhorn, Herve Barmasse, accomplished alpinist and mountaineer, plays an indispensible role. This is not just because Barmasse holds the record for making the most first ascents on the Matterhorn, but more so for his fascinating relationship with the mountain.

Zermatt, in the south of Switzerland, is a ski resort and mountain centre in the Alps dominated by the amazing peak of the Matterhorn (4,478 metres). Attractions include the Matterhorn Museum and ‘First ascent village tour’, and, as the video shows, the mountain appears in the background of many streets. Unlike some ski resorts, Zermatt is equally appealing in summer, when my film was shot, because of its traditional Swiss architecture, beautiful setting and clean mountain air (the town itself is at 1,608 metres / 5,275 feet). Since Zermatt is almost traffic-free, apart from horse-drawn carriages, I have been able to leave the natural street noise on the soundtrack – alongside musical treats like the alphorn and the traditional Swiss band with which the film ends. By the way, the tame-wild...

10 o'clock and her life quit going
It wasn't long till it started snowing
And the end saw the wind really blowing around
Lone bird on a perch nearby
Saw something in her come untied
And then shivered just a bit as she aimed toward the sky
Get down that Matterhorn
What's wrong with the safe and warm ?
What's wrong with a book and tea at night ?
Up high in a friendless wind
Tears frozen upon descent
Get down that matterhorn again
There's a handwritten note he wrote
In the pocket of a cold down coat
On the body of the one who has left our world
And in the note there's a love professed
And some apology about some mess
But she won't be reading those words too soon
Get down that Matterhorn
What's wrong with the safe and warm ?
What's wrong with a book and tea at night ?
Up high in a friendless wind
Tears frozen upon descent
Get down that matterhorn again
Up high in a frightening sky
What's wrong with a quiet night ?
