Jacques Houdek

Jacques Houdek (born 14 April 1981) is a Croatian singer.

Biography

He was born on April 14, 1981 in Zagreb. His parents are from Slavonia. After finishing music school, Jacques attended Berklee College Of Music in Boston. He won the Porin award for best new artist of the year 2004. He's also won first place at the festival MC 2004, and the prestigious BH Radio Festival for the best Croatian performer in 2005. He married Brigitte Krkač in 2006. They have two children, a daughter Sofija and a son David. He received a Porin for best male performance in 2008. For the album "Idemo u zoo" he won the Porin for best album for children in 2009, and also Porin for best male performance 2012.

Groove Armada

Groove Armada are an English electronic music duo from London, composed of Andy Cato and Tom Findlay. They achieved chart success with their singles "I See You Baby" and "Superstylin'". The group has released eight studio albums, four of which have charted in the UK Albums Chart top 50.

History

Groove Armada first formed in the mid-1990s after both Cato and Findlay had been introduced by Cato's wife and soon started their own club, also called Groove Armada, after a 1970s discothèque.

By 1997 they had released a few singles, including "4 Tune Cookie" and the song that first brought them minor fame, "At the River", which sampled "Old Cape Cod" by Patti Page (used in the film Die Hard 2). The song went on to be one of Groove Armada's best-known tracks and has been found on numerous chill out compilations.

Their first album, Northern Star, was released in 1998 on Tummy Touch Records, and was followed by a second, Vertigo, in 1999, which had a more mainstream and 'polished' sound, thus making the UK Album Chart's upper 20 and being certified silver in the UK. It also included "At the River" which was re-released as a full-fledged single. An album of remixed tracks from Vertigo entitled The Remixes followed in 2000, along with their contribution to the Back to Mine mix album series.

Eurovision Song Contest

The Eurovision Song Contest (French: Concours Eurovision de la chanson), often shortened to ESC or Eurovision, is the longest-running annual TV song competition, held, primarily, among the member countries of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) since 1956. The competition was based upon the existing Sanremo Music Festival held in Italy.

Each participating country submits an original song to be performed on live television and radio and then casts votes for the other countries' songs to determine the most popular song in the competition. The contest has been broadcast every year for sixty years, since its inauguration in 1956, and is one of the longest-running television programmes in the world. It is also one of the most watched non-sporting events in the world, with audience figures having been quoted in recent years as anything between 100 million and 600 million internationally. Eurovision has also been broadcast outside Europe to several countries that do not compete, such as the USA and China. An exception was made in 2015, when Australia was allowed to compete as a guest entrant as part of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the event. In November 2015, the EBU announced that Australia would return in 2016. Since 2000, the contest has also been broadcast over the Internet, via the Eurovision website.
