Motorcycle safety concerns many aspects of vehicle and equipment design as well as operator skill and training that are unique to motorcycle riding.
According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2006, 13.10 cars out of 100,000 ended up in fatal crashes. The rate for motorcycles is 72.34 per 100,000 registered motorcycles. Motorcycles also have a higher fatality rate per unit of distance travelled when compared with automobiles. Per vehicle mile traveled, motorcyclists' risk of a fatal crash is 35 times greater than a passenger car. In 2004, figures from the UK Department for Transport indicated that motorcycles have 16 times the rate of serious injuries compared to cars.
A national study by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATS) found that:
The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) is a United States national, not-for-profit organization, founded in 1973, and sponsored by the U.S. manufacturers and distributors of BMW, BRP, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Piaggio/Vespa, Suzuki, Triumph, Polaris Motorcycles and Yamaha motorcycles. MSF maintains rider training curricula used in most states for novice and experienced riders.
The MSF fosters a "ride safe" attitude, and promotes lifelong learning for motorcyclists. It also participates in government relations, motorcycle safety research, public awareness campaigns, and technical assistance to state training and licensing programs.
MSF is a developer of comprehensive, research-based rider education and training curricula designed to develop or advance motorcyclists' riding skills.
MSF offers several courses via iTunes U including "An Adventure in Motorcycle Physics", "Dr. Ray's Street Strategies", "Dr. Ray's Guide to Group Riding" and "Dr. Ray's Seasoned Rider".

My Setup ► http://amzn.to/1RguNUH My Gear ► http://amzn.to/1RkXKLN Are you interested in taking the MSF course (motorcycle safety foundation) to learn how to ride? Most types of classes will present you with a waiver if you pass. The waiver allows you to be exempt from having to pass the riding part of the drivers test when you go to get your Class M endorsement on your drivers license. All you need to do is pay the fee for the license. I take you to the course so you can see what it will look like, and go over a few of the tests. I manage to fail pretty hardcore on a few spots, and decide to eject myself from the course! In early 2010, Motorcycle Safety Foundation beta-tested its newest hands-on training curriculum, the Street RiderCourse 1. The 5-hour SRC1 was designed to be an ideal first street experience for newly licensed riders. During an early test in southern California, MSF staff followed in a van and videotaped the ride with a hand-held camera. Though the video was intended only for research, we've made this sampler reel to demonstrate several key aspects of the course.

I took the MSF course last weekend with no prior motorcycle riding experience. I got my M license the following Monday and have been commuting the past five days. I decided to film this morning's short ride so that: 1) More experienced riders can point out areas I can improve on (there are a lot). 2) People who are planning on taking the MSF can see the level of skill someone with no prior motorcycle riding experience can expect to get after the MSF (of course, this varies from person to person). I should also mention I never drove stick (manual) before so someone who has had experience driving stick should expect to have smoother shifts. Thanks! Subscribe!
FINALLY GETTING MY LICENSE SOON!! I know it's been sometime, but I'll be back soon guys. ;) Share this with your friends. Like My FACEBOOK page: www.facebook.com/RideMetch
Created in 1961 by the Highway Safety Foundation and Safety Enterprises, Inc., MECHANIZED DEATH is a legendary driver's education scare film that underscores the dangers of speeding and reckless driving. Made in an era when automobiles lacked the kind of modern safety features and crash-resistant designs that we take for granted today, and featuring bloody accident footage supplied by the Ohio Highway Patrol, "Mechanized Death" reveals the highways and byways as nightmarish avenues of carnage and destruction. The film remains absolutely relevant today, with its cautionary tales about risk taking, speeding, and -- death. Some of the safety innovations that occurred in the early 1950s included putting padding wherever the driver's head might hit a hard surface, safety glass and by mid-decad...
Edit (7/18/15)** Thanks again for the continued comments and support. I read everything you all say and while I don't always reply, I value all of your feedback. I hope this helps a lot of you become safer riders and I hope it makes beginner riders think more about being visible and proactive about their safety. Feel free to share/embed this anywhere you want, I don't make any $$$ on it, I just want people to see it and learn from it!** This is my first vlog, and I think it's an important one. I have over 130,000 miles on the road in a variety of riding environments. For about 45 minutes, I will take you out on the road and talk/demonstrate how you can be proactive in ensuring your safety as a motorcyclist. We will look at current accident statistics and devise a plan on how to keep you a...
