Die WDR Big Band featured Ruud Breuls an der Trompete und Raphael Klemm an der Posaune mit dem Musikstück "Falling In Love Again". Der Titel stammt von Friedrich Hollaender in einem Arrangement von Bandleader Jörg Achim Keller. Das Konzert "Big Band At The Movies" wurde aufgezeichnet in der Kölner Philharmonie (Januar 2021).
Für den Bandleader und Arrangeur Jörg Achim Keller ist ein Soundtrack weit mehr als ein Begleitmedium, denn wie der Film selbst kann auch die Musik Bilder im Kopf entstehen lassen. Das Repertoire im Bereich Soundtracks scheint unermesslich. Und dann gab es in den letzten Jahrzehnten immer wieder einzelne Songs, die durch ihre Verwendung in Filmen zu Evergreens geworden sind: „Over The Rainbow“ oder „As Time Goes By“ könnte man hier stellvertretend nennen. Wenn es heute Abend „Big Band at the Movies“ heißt, dann widmet sich die WDR Big Band genau diesem Repertoire.

"Falling in Love Again (Can't Help It)" is the title for the song when sung in English-- English lyrics were written by Sammy Lerner. The original German lyrics are different, more risque.

Dagmar Manzel revives these songs, brings them into present times and inspirits them with her strong personality. This is a tribute to the sexy, talented Ute Lemper. "Illusions" was written by Fredrich Hollaender in 1948 and introduced by Marlene Dietrich in the film A Foreign Affair. German singer, actress Ute Lemper has made numerous recordings as well as live performances in tribute to Marlene Dietrich. I was lucky to see her perform in the West End production of "Chicago" in London a number of years ago. Along with this great song are some stunning images of Ms. Lemper. Enjoy!! Friedrich Hollaender
Friedrich Hollaender (in exile also Frederick Hollander; 18 October 1896 – 18 January 1976) was a German film composer and author.
Life and career
He was born in London, where his father, operetta composer Victor Hollaender, worked as a musical director at the Barnum & Bailey Circus. Young Hollaender had a solid music and theatre family background: his uncle Gustav was director of the Stern Conservatory in Berlin, his uncle Felix Hollaender was a well-known novelist and drama critic, who later worked with Max Reinhardt at the Deutsches Theater.
In 1899 Hollaender's family returned to Berlin, his father began teaching at the Stern Conservatory, where his son became a student in Engelbert Humperdinck's master class. In the evening he played the piano at silent film performances in local cinemas, developing the art of musical improvisation. By the age of 18 he was employed as a répétiteur at the New German Theatre in Prague and also was put in charge of troop entertainment at the Western Front of World War I.

Der Titel stammt von Friedrich Hollaender in einem Arrangement von Bandleader Jörg Achim Keller. Das Konzert "Big Band At The Movies" wurde aufgezeichnet in der Kölner Philharmonie (Januar 2021).
Für den Bandleader und Arrangeur Jörg Achim Keller ist ein Soundtrack weit mehr als ein Begleitmedium, denn wie der Film selbst kann auch die Musik Bilder im Kopf entstehen lassen. Das Repertoire im Bereich Soundtracks scheint unermesslich. Und dann gab es in den letzten Jahrzehnten immer wieder einzelne Songs, die durch ihre Verwendung in Filmen zu Evergreens geworden sind: „Over The Rainbow“ oder „As Time Goes By“ könnte man hier stellvertretend nennen. Wenn es heute Abend „Big Band at the Movies“ heißt, dann widmet sich die WDR Big Band genau diesem Repertoire.

Die WDR Big Band featured Ruud Breuls an der Trompete und Raphael Klemm an der Posaune mit dem Musikstück "Falling In Love Again". Der Titel stammt von Friedrich Hollaender in einem Arrangement von Bandleader Jörg Achim Keller. Das Konzert "Big Band At The Movies" wurde aufgezeichnet in der Kölner Philharmonie (Januar 2021).
Für den Bandleader und Arrangeur Jörg Achim Keller ist ein Soundtrack weit mehr als ein Begleitmedium, denn wie der Film selbst kann auch die Musik Bilder im Kopf entstehen lassen. Das Repertoire im Bereich Soundtracks scheint unermesslich. Und dann gab es in den letzten Jahrzehnten immer wieder einzelne Songs, die durch ihre Verwendung in Filmen zu Evergreens geworden sind: „Over The Rainbow“ oder „As Time Goes By“ könnte man hier stellvertretend nennen. Wenn es heute Abend „Big Band at the Movies“ heißt, dann widmet sich die WDR Big Band genau diesem Repertoire.

Dagmar Manzel is well-known for her interpretations of Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler or Paul Abraham. With Hollaender she reaches unparalleled intensity and intimacy. Friedrich Hollaender was born in 1896 and died in 1976. His work has been performed by Marlene Dietrich, Kurt Gerron, his wife Blandine Ebinger and many more. Dagmar Manzel revives these songs, brings them into present times and inspirits them with her strong personality. She has been working together with Michael Abramovich, who is accompanying Dagmar Manzel on the piano.

This is a tribute to the sexy, talented Ute Lemper. "Illusions" was written by Fredrich Hollaender in 1948 and introduced by Marlene Dietrich in the film A Foreign Affair. German singer, actress Ute Lemper has made numerous recordings as well as live performances in tribute to Marlene Dietrich. I was lucky to see her perform in the West End production of "Chicago" in London a number of years ago. Along with this great song are some stunning images of Ms. Lemper. Enjoy!! Friedrich Hollaender
Friedrich Hollaender (in exile also Frederick Hollander; 18 October 1896 – 18 January 1976) was a German film composer and author.
Life and career
He was born in London, where his father, operetta composer Victor Hollaender, worked as a musical director at the Barnum & Bailey Circus. Young Hollaender had a solid music and theatre family background: his uncle Gustav was director of the Stern Conservatory in Berlin, his uncle Felix Hollaender was a well-known novelist and drama critic, who later worked with Max Reinhardt at the Deutsches Theater.
In 1899 Hollaender's family returned to Berlin, his father began teaching at the Stern Conservatory, where his son became a student in Engelbert Humperdinck's master class. In the evening he played the piano at silent film performances in local cinemas, developing the art of musical improvisation. By the age of 18 he was employed as a répétiteur at the New German Theatre in Prague and also was put in charge of troop entertainment at the Western Front of World War I.
