Credit Suisse has hired a pair of utilities and infrastructure bankers out of rival Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

BAML managing director Tom Butcher will join Credit Suisse as a managing director and head of transport, infrastructure, power and utilities based in Sydney, while Kevork Sahagian is joining as a vice president in the same team.

The hires were announced internally at Credit Suisse on Friday morning.

"Tom and Kevork will work closely with our local firm and global sector coverage partners to deliver the bank to Australian and international clients in these critical sectors," Credit Suisse head of investment banking Michael Stock said in a note to staff.

"Tom and Kevork have worked on a number of recent high profile transactions in the Australian market including supporting IFM and Australian Super on the acquisition of Ausgrid, leading the acquisition of Glencore Rail on behalf of Genesee & Wyoming Inc and MIRA, advising Origin Energy on the sale of its portfolio of renewable and energy assets, and supporting QIC,GIP and Borealis on the acquisition of Port of Melbourne."

The pair is expected to start at Credit Suisse after a period of gardening leave.

Butcher is a former Rothschild and UBS banker, while Sahagian joined BAML from RBC Capital Markets.

The hires come only six weeks after Credit Suisse's former head of utilities Nick Schiffer left the firm to join Spark Infrastructure.
